It sucks mainly because we will all have to "snail mail" topics back and forth, on letters, and we will have to write our posts out. And it just wouldn't be the same without a banner on each letter, so I'll need to draw them out with a pencil for each topic letter. Blah. Lots of work.4 points

You keep saying it's not fair and that he needs to realize that, but you're supporting that opposition against Muslims...so it really doesn't matter. You said it's like the Jews hating Hitler. I don't see how. Hitler is an individual that did terrible, inhumane things to be hated by EVERYONE. As more than one person (as a group of people), Muslims did nothing. As I said earlier, there are white serial killers. Tons of them. Does that mean white Americans should be viewed as serial killers? There are more white serial killers that kill in our country than there are Muslim terrorists that attacked our country. How many churches are allowed in Mecca? Why isn't the United States a Christian country (officially)? We could force Christianity on everyone, you know, and then we can ask how many mosques are allowed here. We can also force blacks and mexicans out of the country, like a lot of people would like to do (yeah, it's true, a lot of Republicans in Kansas would love to do that). USA...land of the free, but only kind of.3 points

That analogy is terribly incorrect. Number one, a statue has the sole purpose of celebrating or glorifying. The religious center's primary purpose goes well beyond celebration of anything. And what makes you believe that this is an act of attention? $100M is not being spent to receive attention. Number two, there is a direct connection between Hitler and the Holocaust. If there is anyone out there that thinks there is a direct connection between a mosque or religious center and the 9/11 attacks, shame on them. I think the easiest way for me to bring my point across is this. People need to stop labeling those terrorists as Muslims. It's not only that the mindsets of the terrorists do not agree with what Muslims believe. They oppose what Islam teaches. Why, then, should anyone even be bringing the 9/11 attacks into this? I don't even want to bring religious freedom into this. Because in the end, the construction plan may end up winning simply because the opposition will reluctantly step down, accepting the 1st Amendment, while still showing hatred. Forget religious freedom for a moment and consider this: do you really that think Muslims (as in those who act according to what Islam teaches, since that needs to be specified) were and are celebrating what happened on September 11, 2001? Or were they expressing the same sorrow as those opposing this project? A fraction of followers either misinterpreted what Islam is about or tried finding a way to use Islam to justify their unacceptable actions. Is that a legitimate reason to come in the paths of those who correctly interpret the belief system?3 points

Then you need to read the definition of a mosque. It's a house of prayer, and strictly that. Nothing more. The community center has two floors (of the 13 or so) available for prayer. The rest are going to be used for many activities available to the public (which means, everyone). Ever heard of Charles Manson and his beliefs? Hear about a place in Texas called Waco? I can provide a lot of "religious" incidents in the states that would fit the bill quite nicely. Ignorant people associate Islam with terror, and the reality is that we have ignorant people everywhere. My neighbor is a racist, and he associates robbery with blacks because we've actually had a few blacks rob neighbors down the street. Doesn't mean much, but hey, we have incidents! One attack that happened in 2001 shouldn't mean we disrespect and spit on Muslims. There are plenty of them living here, just like you and me. Have you ever heard of a YMCA? There's a place for prayer in those. Ever heard of a JCC? There are 350+ JCC's in the states and in Canada...Jewish community centers that include a place for worship, NOT strictly a place of worship. Two different things. The Muslim Jihad was never our concern. Jihad has both violent and non-violent meanings, and the warfare has been traced back to Muhammad and the Qu’ran, way before any of our time. Even in the 1700-1800's, it was never our concern...the West Africa incidents, Sudan, and early stages of the Ottoman Empire. We didn't send troops over to stabilize the countries in need, and spend billions of dollars for no reason. If you don't care about them building one, why are you so adamant about this not going up? I doubt you could care less about the well-being of Muslims. That's DEFINITELY not the reason you started this topic.2 points

Not anymore. Duncan has absolutely no explosiveness or speed anymore (not saying he was Amare Stoudemire at any point in his career, but physically he's not the same as he once was), and can't bring a great offensive game night-in, night-out. He still has all the beautiful post moves and bank shots, and his passing is still terrific for a PF/C, but he just can't bring it every night anymore.1 point

Yep. Two players that made All-Defensive teams last season are average defenders. Right. So is/was KG. Your point? And he played great defense at the 2008 Olympics. Let's see him on a defense-oriented team where he's playing his natural position before calling him a pathetic defender. Ask Dirk.1 point

A mosque is strictly a building of prayer, and for Muslims. There's a basketball court, swimming pool, a floor for culinary arts, etc. It's definitely a community center, no debate about it. Two blocks away, you can't even see anything that has to do with ground zero. If Muslims are going to be associated with terrorists by people in this country...Americans are all serial killers, because Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, Jeffrey Dahmer and Donald Harvey are Americans. There are two churches located within two blocks of ground zero. You don't want a community center for Muslims because they will have two floors to pray on? Out of respect to those who died? Well, take out the other churches, bulldoze the empty, useless buildings, and make "ground zero" even larger and more secluded.1 point

There are already plenty of mosques in NYC. You are only opposed to it if you are intolerant. The religion of Islam did not attack the country, it was nutjobs that shouldn't even be associated with the religion. I find it appalling that you don't think freedom of religion should be enforced. The US has killed more people in the "War on Terror" than were killed in the terrorist attacks on 9/11.1 point

Finally saw the replay of the game on ESPN2. Some thoughts... -Ricky Rubio impressed me, but he still has some work to do before he could be an elite PG on the NBA level. First off, let me start out with the positives; he has an incredible ability to make any pass on the court with both the right and left hand. He has tremendous court awareness and timing which allows him to see plays before they happen like Kidd and Nash do. His defense surprised me the most as with his long arms and agggressiveness he reminds me of a Rondo-type defender, which is a good thing. Now, my biggest concern with him is also partially what makes him such a good passing PG...he's unselfish to a fault. I don't know if he just doesn't have a scorer's confidence yet, but more than once I saw him pass up easy shots for teammates (with at least one of those passes being swatted out of bounds). He should really take notes on how Steve Nash runs the Phoenix Suns, because as unselfish as he is, he WILL take the clean shot when it presents itself. At the NBA level, an elite PG HAS to be able to call his own number if it's in the best interest of the team. I also question if he's strong and athletic enough to finish at the rim consistently against NBA competition, and his jumper still seems rushed and a bit unpolished (albeit much improved). Overall though, I was really impressed. -Kevin Durant was awesome today. If the US is to go anywhere, they NEED him to be selfish at times and be comfortable as the #1 option. He was playing like the KD that came 2nd in MVP voting last year. Finishing on the break, hitting some long-range jumpers, had that sweet step-back going, etc... One thing that surprised me that I REALLY hope carries over into the next NBA season was his playmaking for other players. He made a few nice passes that got his teammates some open looks. Right now his playmaking is the ONLY thing keeping him out of the top 5 players in the league IMO, and if he uses these games to improve that then all the more power to him. -Lamar Odom should be getting more minutes at Center than I originally presumed Seriously, in FIBA Chandler is a liability offensively and doesn't make nearly enough of an impact on defense as in the NBA. Odom made some great plays today (along with a few horrible jumpers). His rebounding is absolutely key, but I love his versatility on offense at the C position. That play where he took it coast-to-coast off his own rebound is a perfect example. -Our guard play has me a bit worried. Besides that last few minutes of the ball game, Derrick Rose was HORRIBLE. He just doesn't have great pure-PG instincts, his defense was underwhelming and he's not getting to the basket like he should. He really needs to watch video of Dwyane Wade from 2008 and pattern his game off that. Don't over-dribble, make quick decisions and get to the rim at will like he showed he can in the final few minutes against Spain. Curry and Westbrook both have better PG skills, but still not what this team needs. That was blatantly obvious when Rubio was on the floor and running Spain's offense. I really, really wish Rondo would have seen some game-time today because I think he can be that guy. I know he doesn't have a jumper and is prone to making some bad decisions, but he is by far the best playmaker on the team. Hopefully he gets that chance in the next few games. -Andre Iguodala should never, ever should the ball from beyond 5ft from the basket unless there is no one within 10ft of him. He and Odom had some of the most downright ugly misses on jumpers that I've seen in quite awhile. The thing that drives me (and I'm sure Sixers fans) nuts is that he's so good off the dribble because he gets a high percentage shot or collapses the defense and makes the proper pass. He's the LeBron James of this year's squad, a swiss army knife of sorts, but he has to play to his strengths as he can get whatever he wants around the paint. -The defensive intensity needs to stay on high the ENTIRE game. Much like the 2008 team, this squad's biggest strength and advantage is athleticism and length. Sometimes they go on stretches where they just overwhelm the other team with these advantages on the defensive end, just like the 2008 team did. The difference is that the 2008 team (besides being even more gifted) dominated teams with their defense on every single possession. Many times in the Olympics teams couldn't even get the ball past half court before one of the guards picked the pass off. This team needs to have the same tenacity. As good as teams like Spain and Greece are, we can still win the game on the defensive side. We show flashes, but just don't give that defensive effort for the full 40min. If we do this, no team will beat us.1 point
