  4. I loved the signings of Scola and Lowry at first too but then when I just sat back and looked at the roster there was something that didn't feel right to me. And once we traded Ariza my fears began to rise about our commitment to defense. Our struggles have NOTHING to do with our incapability to to run Rick Adelman's offense (Brooks, Martin and Scola have been brilliant offensively), but the lack of any presence defensively. No one is securing the paint and swatting shots (Hill and Yao have but are limited), no one is stopping the Kobe's and Carmelo's from dropping 30+ points, no one has been rotating correctly, etc etc. One problem I have with Morey and have mentioned this during the offseason is that his lack of commitment to winning now. Yes he and Les cashed in this past year but I feel like we are on the fence of winning now and rebuilding. These young assets and picks are supposed to nab us an all-star but so far we have nothing to show for that and until we turn those assets into one we will continue to sit on that fence and be stuck in mediocrity. Morey and Les have to decide between now and the February trade deadline whether this team is in a competing or rebuild mode. Whatever route they choose, Houston is in a great position but they HAVE to choose one imo.

  5. Well acquiring Scola from the Spurs in the first place was a great move. Signing him and Lowry immediately I thought at the time was another great move because both are integral pieces to the puzzle. Scola is not young but he comes out and battles every night and gets it done. So I like the Scola extension, Rockets certainly may have overpaid Kyle Lowry but when you have an aggressive owner who made it clear before the season even ended that he would do whatever it took to keep both, he kept his word and it happened. I think last year we had so much fun watching that Brooks/Lowry duo that worked out well for the Rockets, and when you needed a big shot you could go to Scola for that mid range it was his bread and butter. He's still dominating the offensive end and even drawing double teams, I think he's been solid for the Rockets this year. Adelman is running his system more authoritatively than I have ever seen since he became coach of the Rockets, they built this team for him so of course he will get the blame. Its that aggressive nature of doing the dirty work that;s not part of this team anymore. They don't play like they want to win down the stretch, they just settle and it seems like Adelman does the same.

  6. Seriously what the [expletive] does Rick have against Jordan Hill? Is that he can't pass like his $5 million golden boy? Whatever it is Rick, get your head out of your [expletive] and play the damn kid. Also the hell was Rick playing 3 offensively incompetent players down the stretch? Martin and Ish are the only guys who showed up tonight.

  8. I think they were down 18 against the Clippers as well. So down 18 to the Clippers, down 22 to the Heat, and down 18 to Orlando as well, and win against the Clippers/Heat in OT by 2 and beat Orlando by 10. 3 great comebacks, rather rare to see.

  10. Kobe, LeBron, Wade, Dwight and Chris Paul are probably the only championship franchise players in the NBA right now to me. To build around another player, you are going to need supreme talent, with these guys you can get away with a bit less. The verdict is still out on Durant for me, he is really, really good already, but he needs to find other ways to dominate besides just putting the ball in the bucket. Are there other 'franchise' players? Sure, Amare, Bosh, Melo, Deron, Joe Johnson, etc are all guys you can build 50 win teams around, maybe even compete for a championship, the difference is that you need almost a perfect supporting cast. With the guys in my first paragraph, you almost inherently compete for a title with them on your team. This is why it is so hard to compete in the NBA. Unless you have one of the best players in the league, you are going to be struggling to compete. That is why I am such a big advocate for losing big in rebuilding years, in hopes you pick up that Kevin Durant or John Wall player.
