I don't look at efficiency because players were far more efficient back then...meaning, guards. It's amazing...30-40 different guards, 15+ PPG, shot over 50% from the floor in Jordan's era. You don't see that today. Just the other day, Kobe stated that if he had a chance to change the game, he would remove the zone defenses. Jordan did face zones here and there, but the doubles were forced to commit to the player, so he didn't see them as often because, to be legal defense, teams HAD to leave one guy open. Made the game easier, no matter what anyone says...it's a no-brainer. The greatest defensive teams have played superstars like that, with a modified zone, and it goes from the 2008 Celtics to the 2004 Pistons, a couple of the Spurs teams, etc. Also, defensive specialists have been getting much, much more playing time in Bryant's era. Bowen, Afflalo, T-Allen, Battier, Bell, Matthews, Batum, Varejao, D-Jones, Chalmers (who starts over a better offensive player in Arroyo), Ariza, Sefolosha, even Artest...and the list goes on...most of the perimeter defenders do nothing but spot-up and play defense. Back in the 80s and 90s, basketball was more team-oriented. The idea was to stop the team. When Detroit and New York decided to use the Jordan Rules, they still couldn't get the job done for that very reason...the physical defense, double teams, and constant switching of defenders did three things: it drew more fouls, left Jordan's teammates open (still no zones) and had a negative effect on their offensive production. Jordan was more efficient, and he has a higher average (in a season and career), more points. Bryant has more ways to score the ball, more range, and the higher point total in a game. It's hard to convince me that Kobe couldn't have averaged 37 PPG (or better) if Phil wasn't around that season, AND if he had more shots at it (he was with Shaq from 1996-2004). Jackson sat Kobe out of the fourth in his 62-point game against Dallas. He sat Kobe for a quarter when he dropped 57 and 56 against Memphis and Washington. Bryant could've had three 70-point games, not including his 81. People that didn't watch LA every game have no idea how Jackson tried to put the ball in Odom's hands, hoping he could facilitate, then to rely on Kobe in isolations later on. It was crazy. Bryant had a 42-point first half one time. In the 81-point game, he dropped 55 in the second half. So don't bother giving me just the numbers. Wilt scored like he was playing on a seven-foot rim. Him and Kareem rebounded like they were on one. Shaq never averaged 30 PPG in his career, mainly because he was next to Bryant, and in an offense implemented by Phil. Bryant is the more versatile scorer, and has faced more traffic than any player not named Shaq. He's so versatile and has so many options, he's still doing it despite the TONS of miles already logged, a longer duration of prime than Mike and any player I can think of in the last 20-30 years (even Malone, argue Kareem), and it's all because of the number of ways he can score the ball. Jordan is the GOAT. Kobe is the better scorer.5 points

I chose Deron, because he is, imo, more apt to move the ball. Paul seems too ball dominant, and mixed with Melo, that's not a great thing.3 points

Before I start explaining anything...do not abuse this privilege. You guys have been fine without it for six years, and I won't hesitate to go back to the word filter. I just want to give you guys some breathing room, and most of you are older teens or adults to begin with. So, please, don't jump into a topic and post a word 50 times, over and over, just because I'm doing this. Also, I'm asking that we still keep the post quality high. Our quality has been very good. Dropping the filter can have a negative effect, but I trust that we'll be fine. http://www.otrbasketball.com/forums/topic/18178-drop-the-word-censor Most wanted it done, so hopefully, this is going to be a good idea. Activity can pick up, members who left in the past because of the filter (no idea why anyone would do that) can change their mind, and we can make it work. There are two words in the ban filter...one is a racial slur, one is usually related to homosexuals. Those won't be posted because they'll be used to personally attack members, and I'm not going to lay that out on the table for everyone to grab. It won't really be a trial period, but I'll pay close attention to our post quality, and I'll make the best decision for the site when it's all said and done. OTR houses some of the best basketball posters out there, and we've sacrificed our activity to eliminate all of our trolls (most forums welcome trolls, to promote the baiting and activity, and the outcome is the site losing their best members). Everyone here seems mature enough to handle it, so I suppose I should say thanks for that as well. I wouldn't run a site if it contained a bunch of adolescent teens that spent their time trashing other sites, their own community, and posting worthless posts.2 points

As much as I hate Gasol this year, Pau would eat his lunch...and Griffin is a double-double monster that passes far, far better than Bosh does. Sadly, even LaMarcus Aldridge is putting up big numbers, and actually winning games with an injured roster, in a tougher conference. I'm not going to say he's overrated, but there's no way he's arguably the second best PF in the NBA. Not a chance. EDIT: Can't leave out Garnett, who is on a team with three other all-stars and is putting up better rebounding numbers, a higher percentage shooting, and is 5,000 times the defender.2 points

Kravitz is a good guitarist, not unbelievable IMO. I'd still take Kravitz over that whack [expletive] half-time show that just came to an end.2 points

Yes, LeBron, of course. Because nothing says offensive awareness like jacking up 3s with 20s on the shot clock.1 point

a .exe file won't run in linux, that is a windows executable file. you'll have to get a linux compatible compile of it. How to install software in Ubuntu: There are several ways to do this. A few of them are these, from easiest to hardest: - Using the Software Center. Go to Applications -> Software Center. Look for software, press Install. - Using .deb files. DEB files are sort of like .exe or .msi installers for Windows, but even easier. You can get them from the Internet if the Software Center doesn't provide an app (for instance on Getdeb.net). Doubleclick to open them, press Install. - Using a PPA. Software in the Ubuntu repositories is updates with every release, so if you want a cutting edge version of an app, you could use a Personal Package Archive from Launchpad. For instance, if you want to try out Nautilus Elementary from this PPA, open a Terminal and enter these commands: - "Raw" Linux programs. These don't really install themselves, you just run them. For instance, if you download Firefox from Mozilla's website (instead of using the regular Software Center method), you'll get a tar.gz file. Rightclick and Extract it, then go into the folder and run the "firefox" file. - Compile from source. I won't show how to do this, but if the app isn't in the Software Center, doesn't have a pre-packaged DEB and only provides the source code, this is always a possibility.1 point

He came just short of the $16,000... you should sell some of your baseball cards to help him reach his goal, there would be word art sigs like woah up in this piece1 point

No one changes a game like Dwight Howard on the defensive end. He's in his own league in terms of defense for a big guy. That puts him in that category with Kobe/Bron/Wade.1 point

You aren't serious, are you? The younger stars always play more than the veterans (Kobe excluded beause of how competitive he is). I would be willing to bet that guys somebody like James didn't play much more in this game than all of his other apperances. Older players like Garnett, Duncan and Dirk rarely play anyways. It doesn't matter who is coaching. I guess Popovich is a douche for playing Kobe and Durant so many minutes as well. He is clearly trying to tire them out for the playoffs because you know, they can't handle playing for about 7 minutes of competitive basketball.1 point

All I can say is I am just happy that these guys came with it last night. After last years horrible performances it's good to see that these guys still care to keep this contest alive. I think it would have been a crazy good contest if most of the dunkers connected the first time around, really would have set the place off even more. I loved the creativity and imagination put into each dunk. The dunks were not incredible but the fact that they got coaches, they set up "stories" at times and that they just put an effort really pleased me, after all this is the cherry on top for the entire night. I still think the judges are just awful at scoring these dunks, and I think the fan vote is a ridiculously bad idea.1 point

Uh, first of all, Jordan jumped from the line the first time he performed it. Everyone was wrong. I believe it was 1985 (Dominique won). He put down a piece of tape before he jumped, and his toe was behind it. Let's go ahead and make that clear. Dunks are judged on originality. He has done a dunk that Erving, Jordan, Brent Barry and even Pippen (and others, in other dunk contests) have done in a dunk contest before, and Jordan did it three times (two for the win). James White dunked from the free throw line...while putting the ball under his leg. Blake's first dunk wasn't an ordinary 360. Watch the replay. He took off, one-footed, and did a Statue of Liberty dunk...but with two hands. It was a full, complete 360 off of one foot, which is very tough to do. Most 360 dunks don't start with the player facing the basket, jumping off one foot, and THEN spinning in-air. And not very many are willing to jump over a car, because if your foot catches part of the hood, you're done. You break your arm or shoulder. Considering the fact that the pass was even low, it was a great dunk. He could've jumped over the roof, if he really wanted to. http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/180684_10150093679410924_194822060923_6458049_3749401_n.jpg DeRozan had one good dunk. Nothing special about the first one. Ibaka's second dunk was unique. I would've given him a 47 from the free throw line, and a 47 for the stuffed animal, leaving him tied with DeRozan at the end of the first round. McGee's three-basketball dunk wasn't that impressive. Wall basically shot the ball in. The first one was AMAZING (double dunk), given the fact that he bounced the ball off the first backboard before dunking either of them. That catch and finish from his right hand was insane. ------------ Overall, McGee would've had a much better chance if he kept the double-dunk for the final round...but it's a mistake a lot of players have made over the years, and they pay for it. McGee's double-dunk may have been the best in the contest, but he screwed up with that final dunk...nothing impressive about it, and it ended the contest. The Jordan dunk was crazy, but you can't go out with what he did.1 point
