I get the Rose for MVP talk, but I think it's selling short the coaching Thibodeau has done this year. The reason why the Bulls are so tough to beat isn't just that Rose is a tremendous player, it's that he has that team playing ridiculously tough defense from top to bottom. The Bulls have a positive +/- even while Rose is on the bench. Their second unit keeps teams struggling to score, allowing the Bulls to be very, very good for 48 minutes. Nobody would say Rose is a top 5 defensive PG. That's not knocking him though as he's definitely improved this year under Thibodeau, but it's interesting that from a pure offensive standpoint, compared to past MVP's especially, he's not out of this world or even close to them. 2010 MVP: LBJ PER 31 (#1) 2009 MVP: LBJ PER 31 (#1) 2008 MVP: Kobe PER 24 (#7) 2007 MVP: Dirk PER 27 (#2) 2006 MVP: Nash PER 23 (#14) 2005 MVP: Nash PER 22 (#18) 2004 MVP: KG PER 29 (#1) Usually, MVP goes to a guy near the top of PER, mainly because it's been an offensive award for a long time now. Its just interesting where he stacks up compared to past MVPs.

It's a very exciting time right now to be a Rockets fan. After a trade that shipped out the reigning MIP, and a defensive captain you would have thought the season was going to get sketchy fast, but instead the emergence of Kyle Lowry and co. have turned this season into an enthusiastic one. This team was so inconsistent all year battling various issues, and now the Rockets are that team that have nothing to lose, just go out play hard and try to grab that eighth seed. I really hope they make it. I do think the Rockets can make life tough for the Spurs, I don't think they can beat them in a 7 game series, but could they make it competitive most definitely. This team scores in bunches and when they give at least a decent effort on D they will stay in just about every game. Two guys that I have been shocked with are Kyle Lowry, and Chuck Hayes. Honestly these guys were really not offensive threats, Lowry struggled to score earlier in the season and well Chuck we all know is the defensive beast. Now you cant slouch on these guys, Kyle is scorching from all over the court, and Chuck sneaks in and gets his points, not to mention he's improved tremendously on his free throw shooting. You add these two into the mix of Kevin Martin, Bud, and Scola and it turns out to be a very competitive team who can strike fast. If the Rockets move the ball and play confident through Adelmans offense then yes I think they can make life a bit tough for the Spurs, I really hope it happens.

One more thing, Patterson has to be one of the most humble players in the league. I don't think he would mind another season behind Scola but if the Rockets do want Patrick to develop his game further he's going to need Luis' minutes.
