It's cause of [expletive]ing idiots like this guy and Prodigy and some others that only come to OTR to bash on Swish and fail at backseat modding. How are we going to encourage new members to keep posting if we keep scaring them away and attempt to get them banned all the time? I was for the neg rep, until I saw some of the posts in this thread. It's really getting pathetic. Do you come to OTR to discuss basketball or pick on people to get a little green mark saying plus one next to your name to make up for your sad life outside of the internet? Honestly, the whole rep system is retarded now. A lengthy, well thought article by Erick or another writer will get one or two reps if lucky, but a "go play with your baseball cards" post will get 5+.7 points

I can't make one anonymous and not the other, and that will create a problem (and a small one, not the biggest). I gave you guys a poll to decide if we should lift the word filter, and I went ahead and did it. Since then, people have been cussing each other out, and I've deleted a few posts that shouldn't have been made. This isn't an option. There are two sites I know of that are ruined partially because of negative reps. They go around and neg-rep each other just because of who that person is (ex. negative reps for every post Sacha makes), and it's really not your call to do something like that. If you agree with a post, there isn't much more to add to a discussion. If you disagree, there's a TON you can add. There's nothing wrong with what we are doing right now. Sometimes, I have to make the decisions, despite how the community feels. How many people wanted Diesel unbanned the first time he was tossed? Plenty, and it happened. The second time? Plenty. Eventually, people found out he didn't give a damn about the site, that he had multiple accounts, that he was posting under different (and fake) Facebook and Twitter names, threatening members and athletes. I would rather just eliminate reputation points altogether, than to add a negative rep. It doesn't matter what certain members promise...3-4 guys won't be speaking for the entire community, and saying the system won't be abused is like me saying members will never up and leave the site.3 points

I think the system should just be for smart OTR posts and not for who is the funniest member..1 point

Funerals are supposed to be a celebration of someone's life, so that's why some people aren't crying and depressed at funerals.1 point

Reed, Morningstar, and Selby all suck ass. I'm so pissed right now. And Markieff didn't do a damn thing but turn the ball over. Just disappointing to see these guys fold like lawn chairs when under pressure. Bill Self is a head coach, and he has a championship under his belt. He coached like a damn kiddy recreational basketball coach in that first half. Pretty pathetic. No Elite 8 spot deserves praise if you're a top seed in the tourney. There's nothing good about the season.1 point

So lately I rewatched Raging Bull. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_IopqgrGpWhQ/SWaVl-THyBI/AAAAAAAABis/P5HuSxuCmC8/s400/Raging_Bull_poster.jpg Awesome movie I don't know how many times I watched it, one of my very favorite movies. Pure masterpiece. De Niro and Pesci are just unbelievable in it. This is my favorite scene of the movie : One of my favorite movie scenes ever. Totallly improvised by Pesci and De Niro, it's just great. So I definitely give it a 10/10. I also watched Alice in Wonderland. http://www.sewersurfer.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/alice_in_wonderland_ver6.jpg I was quite disappointed by it to be honest. I'm a huge fan of Tim Burton (and Depp) and this one was clearly not as good as his usual work IMO. Still a nice movie, very good graphics, but no more than that. The original version is much better. And the actress who plays Alice is just terrible, honestly... Don't know why Burton picked her. So I'm gonna give it a 6/10. Then I watched Network. http://atthemovieswithbillyandbrian.files.wordpress.com/2010/03/network-movie-poster1.jpg Very good movie, I had a good time watching it. The actors are all great, a very interesting view of the television network, very good satirical movie indeed. I'll give it a 9/10.1 point

http://menversus.com/images/Is-This-Real-Life.jpg The irony here is so strong. It's funny because your level of intelligence is of an elementary school child. I fail to see how you're any more mature then the kid.1 point

It seems mean but she is OBSESSIVE over me, She'll send me like 8-10 messages before I can reply because I take too long to reply. I told her my phone is broken so I can't text her, but when she asks what I'm doing I always include my phone (texting, talking on the phone etc) and she still doesn't catch on cuz she's a dumb bitch.1 point

Bill Simmons is by far my favorite writer. I could read his articles and listen to ramble on for days. He's so knowledgeable and incredible with his wit, sarcasm and general humor.1 point

I'd say more, but I don't want to risk being suspended or infracted, so I'll say it nicely. If this was a member of higher stature, a member of the age 18 or older, or a member that has been here for four years, you wouldn't say anything at all. Who cares if he steals the topic from another forum? It's certainly clear that you stroke your ego by going after people like Swish because of his standing on this forum, the bad aura he has around him and the way he conducts himself. It's just wrong? Are you kidding me? You're acting as if he stole a Bill Simmons column, switch four or five words around and call it a collab between Simmons and Swish. So to personal attack him over something as small as taking a topic idea "is just wrong". Personally attacking someone over trying to create activity is "just wrong". God damn, how old are you? 13? When you get past the stage of trying to insult members over something so petty, maybe this community would learn to appreciate posts like these more, but this had absolutely no substance, and no meaning other to bait Swish and try to stroke that big internet ego. Get out of here with that garbage.1 point

May not be a big deal after all. I completely forgot that Carl Landry is his backup. I was expecting someone much, much worse.1 point

The NBA has media timeouts at the first dead ball after the 6 minute mark of the 1st/3rd quarters, the 3rd minute mark of the 1st/3rd, the 9 minute mark of the 2/4, 6 minute of the 2/4, and 3 minute of the 2/4. The thing is that if a coach of a certain team calls a timeout, those media timeouts are waved. The only time where the situation above arises is in the last two minutes of games, or if there is a long stretch of basketball that prevents the media timeout for a couple of minutes. This leads itself to 10-12 commercial pods during a 2.5 hour game, not including halftime. Contrast this with baseball which has 16 or 17 and usually runs a similar length to a basketball game. I've never been disrupted by the flow of an NBA game, only a college game where coaches have four timeouts a half and if they take one, it doesn't invalidate the media timeout. So you will very often have Coach Timeout, stoppage of play on same possession after 20 seconds, Media Timeout, Free Throws. Edit: I should have said "not including halftime" above.1 point

First of all, is excitement worth more than the crowning of a legitimate champion? Because of small samples, baseball is a game where players and teams prove themselves over time. Because of fluky stretches, and the sheer amount of luck that goes in to baseball, it's impossible to say that the team that survives at the end of the postseason is the best team in baseball. In football, if a team has one bad game, it's eliminated from the postseason. That's an absurdly unfair system. It's the only system that can be reasonably played due to the nature of football's physicality, but let's put it this way, do you think that Patriots team that lost to the Giants loses four games to New York in a seven game series? What the NBA playoffs do is force teams to prove they're better by beating a number of different teams a number of different times. It champions the mental in that it forces a team to scout and prepare for everything an opponent does, and it champions the physical in that teams must often try and succeed with their pet plays taken away by scouting. With the exception of a handful of fluky circumstances the best team in the NBA playoffs ALWAYS wins. If someone thinks the NBA playoffs are boring, that's all fine and well and good. You're probably not a hardcore basketball fan, which is fine. But your advice will also carry less weight than an obsessive fan of the game.1 point

I'd drop it to 62 games. 3 games against your division. 2 games against everyone else. I think the season is too long. Games throughout the year need to mean something, not just the latter half which is usually just for playoff seeding. I think the NFL and NASCAR are so popular because of this. Their seasons are comprised of very few events per team compared to their season length (NFL: 16 games in 5 months, NASCAR Sprint Cup: 36 races in 10 months). The NBA's season has half as many games as the MLB. Actually think about that. The strain that NBAers go through game-to-game, season-to-season compared to non-pitching MLBers is not even close.1 point
