Seems that a lot of people in this thread think that Love is better than Dirk, or at least that a case could be made for Love.. Which does not surprise me as I've seen a lot of people saying the same thing the entire last season. Well I agree that Love is a terrific player, and he's had a terrific season, and I would agree that a case could "eventually be made for him" if it was all about the regular season but the fact is that.. it's not. I think that most people just totally bypass the fact that "IT'S IN THE PLAYOFFS THAT WE TRULY SEE WHO THE BEST PLAYERS ARE". That's a fact. And so as Love has not even been in the playoffs yet, he just cannot be in the discussion yet. Purely and simply. Now I understand that Dirk did not play at his true level last season but, as I said, one season just ain't enough to judge a player. ESPECIALLY that Dirk had a good excuse not to play at his best last years due to his back problems. Furthermore I would add that he was not as bad as people made him to be, actually he still had quite a good season (many players would love to play the way he did last year), he rather had a "medium" season. In fact I am sure that many people blame him for the "bad" season that Dallas had, well it is VERY important not to forget that the Mavs had a tremendous roster change in the 2012 season, they lost some valuable pieces, and as real life just ain't a video game, it is normal that this team did not have a great chemistry last year and Dirk just cannot be blamed for that. So I will only agree that a case can be made for Love if the two following things happened : Love makes the playoffs and shows that he can be as amazing a leader as Dirk showed he could be, OR if Dirk had another "bad" season next year (which would confirm that he wouldn't be in his prime any more). Then and ONLY then I would agree that a case COULD be made for Love. But right now it is just totally impossible. I repeat : RIGHT NOW Dirk Nowitzki still CLEARLY is the best power forward in the world.1 point

Barnes was horrible for us last year. I'm not too fond of some guy saying Barnes was anywhere near Kobe's game last year, either. Whatever statistics he found, it's not going to help his argument because Barnes' role on the team was to spot up and shoot the ball. He rarely defended the best player on the court, and when he was in there with Bryant (Ron on the bench), Bryant would do that most of the time, anyway. For him to even think that the Lakers would be more productive with Barnes, instead of Bryant...well, he should probably just shut his blog down.1 point

The argument really comes down to Love and Dirk. Pau has never been in the discussion imo. I just think it's amazing what one injury riddled season can do, Dirk was hands down the best PF at the end of 2011 and now he being brought up in whether he's in the top five lol.1 point

I honestly thought that was incredibly stupid, found no humor in it at all, nothing to do with Romo either, I even laughed at the picture dbf posted last week1 point

I need two players for our banner. Andre Drummond and Harrison Barnes? Also...what do you think about the current board's layout, in regards to the forums in view? Do I need to expand the college basketball forum? Collapse the NBA a bit? Let me know what you guys think.1 point

Almost seven years of NBA discussion, now taking a backseat. This is really weird.1 point

If the NBA season doesn't hit us in the face in the near future, I'll be expanding certain forums. As of now, OTR will go along like we have for almost seven years. We always have droughts during the summer. Granted this is much more than just a drought, I'd take this over our site being hacked a second time. The lack of activity here really doesn't bite at my ass as much as it used to. I know that, when we bounce back, I'll have the dedicated guys, and that's what OTR is built on. I think everyone remembers when BBW and SportsTwo did the merger, and it was at the worst time for us, because we had a lot of problems here. A TON of my guys left for S2, and while things looked grim for us (because S2 was "that new shit" everyone wanted to try out), it didn't last. RealBallers did the same thing to us. I think I lost 75% of my 12-member GFX crew to them (or some site, I can't remember because both are dead). RBS stayed up for a long time, but traffic eventually tore open the site, along with insufficient management (eventually, new management), and it just went downhill. It may have been BBall Central, and that place was booming more than RBS, if I recall correctly. Finally, the hack...and out of everything, that was the worst. Members did stop posting here. The truth is, they were upset that they lost their posts...and so was I, but come on. Sure, I could go and promote OTR every day, work my ass off to bring 50 new people here and see what happens, but there's always a need to control your crowd, activity, and ultimately, your community size. It's fun to go over to RealGM and post, you can talk forever, but a site like RGM makes it extremely difficult to maintain an identity, and that's something anyone can do over here, as long as they can roll with our big dogs when it comes to discussion.1 point

I also have about 50,000 posts (or something like that, I guess I'll see right when I submit this, lol), so that helps quite a bit, haha. Either way, I can probably code it, maybe just by using part of IPB's code and refining it a bit (makes it much easier for me). So, give me some time, and I'll have something up in the next day or so. It would be awesome if we could actually use these rep points for something, but IPB has never had a fully-functional bookie system, and there's no way I'd be able to code one, unfortunately.1 point

Maybe I made a mistake adding polls, lol. I'm asking for the top five (in order). The polls were just an extra incentive to participate and an easier way to calculate the first or second player from each list.1 point

Site was just moved to a new semi-dedicated server, so you should experience better performance overall. Some of you were probably booted for a while (everyone should've been), so I'm sorry for that...but we weren't down for that long, and all posts should have been restored.1 point

Probably server problems. I'm going to have to move the site (isn't going to be that big of a deal) before August 15th. The hosting plan is going to get a bit more expensive, but that's no problem...it's more about the lack of memory on the current server. Right now, and throughout the night, people are probably performing backups. We're on a semi-dedicated server that holds 50 sites total, so it's expected. The new server I'm jumping over to will still have 50 sites, but they will all be limited a bit more when it comes to memory usage, and OTR rarely peaks (not even sure if I've seen it peak on this host, actually).1 point
