Small favor from those with Facebook
Real Deal replied to Real Deal's topic in Off-Topic Discussion Forum
Contest over...her kiddos placed 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th, haha. The first place winner was probably too far ahead when I started helping, honestly...that baby was up by about 25-30, and the lady was using a message board, so I figured I'd fight fire with fire. Thanks for helping. -
Just create a 1-5 scale, and grade each of them on certain aspects of the game. Use categories and subcategories. It's really the best way to go about it. Teamwork ---Passing (Rating - Comment) ---Screens ---Help Defense Dribbling ---Perimeter Ball-Handling ---Post Ball-Handling Shooting ---Shot Mechanics ---Efficiency ---Shot Selection Physical Attributes ---Quickness ---Speed ---Agility ---Strength ---Stamina Mental Attributes ---Attitude ---Offensive Awareness ---Defensive Awareness ---Hustle/Effort Overall Play ---Offense ---Defense ---Fundamentals This is similar to what I was doing with middle school kids. Your 1-5 scale would be something like... 1 - Poor performance, needs extensive work 2 - Below average performance 3 - Average performance 4 - Above average performance 5 - Excellent performance, player is highly skilled in this area I also used an Excel spreadsheet, just so it would be easier to go back and edit comments and ratings. Then, you can do evaluations each week, and show progression in the spreadsheet, and average each evaluation rating for that player at the end of each month. Of course, this is probably a lot of work for JV players, so I'm not sure how far you'd want to dive into this. I didn't give out the evaluations as much, didn't average them...but those are ideas I'd probably use if I were coaching HS ball (probably varsity, but again, it's up to you).

Welcome to the best. Don't be discouraged if we're having trouble with our activity...we're usually pretty active. Our problem lies within the lockout. The discussion here is usually centered around the NBA more than anything else (where you'll find many other sites racking up twice as many posts in their off-topic), and with the lockout in place, it's literally locking us out as well. We'll bounce back, though...been up since January 2005, so no worries. Where would others know you from?

LOL, I saw your post right when you made it, but it was on the other server.

Dwyane Wade Offered 2 Million A Month To Play In China
Real Deal replied to magicbalala245's topic in Miami Heat Team Forum
MV3? Does that mean he's the third leg? I don't get that nickname, I guess. -
I have a friend who entered her kids into a "cutest kid" contest, and all four love basketball. They deserve to win because all basketball fans are winners. http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.252541224774520.75908.239735549388421 (you have to be signed in to see the album) You'll have to "like" the page...which is no big deal, because you can "unlike" it after the contest ends. But, I'd appreciate it if you could go in and vote for #25, 26, 27 and 28 in that album. Not a big deal if you don't, I'm just helping out a friend and some future ballers. Thanks everyone.

I may move most of you around, actually. ATLANTIC Built Ford Tough illwill21 CENTRAL TheHutch fish7718 SOUTHEAST Cobb NORTHWEST Lkr Prodigy PACIFIC Legacy Sun Tzu SOUTHWEST deestillballin Dash I'm thinking this is probably the best arrangement. The actual moderators will be helping out, and because one is a Laker fan (Force), I'm moving Lkr out of the Pacific. Our other two moderators both have a favorite team in the SE Division (Smitty likes the Cats along with his Sixers), so I can place Cobb in there (who runs our baseball section) and not worry too much about inactivity. I guess I'm looking at this in a way where I need the DL's to have a larger role in these team forums, and moving them to cover teams that they actually like (I know Lkr and Prodigy like the Thunder, and fish7718 likes the Bulls) will help a bit more. Not only that, but I'm also putting two in a group together based on activity. I know that one or the other will always be active, any given day. It's complicated to make it all work, but I believe the order above is for the best. If you have any feedback on this (DL's or anyone in general), or you'd like to discuss changes you want to make to the list above (DL's), just let me know in here...not a problem at all. EDIT: I'm still looking for one more DL...one that would help with the Southeast Division.

My problem with Joe Fulks' shooting (and everyone else's) is really explained in the numbers. I can't sit here and say he would've done any better shooting the ball. Would Joe Fulks even make an NBA team in this era? How many guys, in the 40's, would be on teams in the 90's? When these guys first started playing, there were no mechanics on their jumpshots. They weren't great on the defensive end because, truthfully, they lacked the defensive IQ that players like Gary Payton and Dennis Rodman had. Plus, while FG% continued to rise (slowly, but surely), Fulks never improved his shot. Even near the end of his career, guys like Ed Macauley, Bill Sharman and Neil Johnston were shooting 45-49% from the floor, and Fulks never reached above 35%. I really didn't want to put Jamison, either. He did start at PF for almost an entire season (the only season I looked at, didn't have the time), but I'm sure he didn't do it the entire time he was there. I'm almost inclined to put Larry Smith. He didn't put up big numbers, but he was Mr. Mean, and probably the best rugged PF the Warriors have had, and an excellent rebounder.

The bigger problem is, there isn't even an offseason, lol.

Well, once the lockout was put into play, the owners had already gotten their way. The players will budge before the owners, simply because it'll be the players running out of money first. Sure, guys like Bryant and Deron can go overseas and play, make money, etc...but they aren't raking in $20 million a season, and they're only getting older. Plus, that's only two guys. The owners aren't going to make money during a lockout, but they are also sitting on their cash because they aren't obligated to pay their players. Players aren't getting shit out of anything they do. If they consider decertification, their contracts will be voided, which is going to suck for everyone (owners, players AND fans). Of course, you already know all of that, lol. I'm really sick of reading this garbage, though. It's just the same thing, over and over again, and I doubt I'll see "breaking news" flashing across my TV screen for at least 6-7 months, if not more.

Should be good to go. http://otrbasketball.com/raptors/roster.php Tom Sterner, by the way.
-
Spelled Peddie's name wrong...that's all on me. But blame NBA.com for not updating their coaching staff. I guess this has been a problem with a few other teams as well...blah. http://www.nba.com/raptors/roster Thanks for the heads up. I'll get it changed ASAP.

Built Ford Tough fish7718 TheHutch Cobb Legacy Dash Sun Tzu Lkr Prodigy deestillballin illwill21 I need one more division leader. Yes, I cut two due to inactivity over the last nine months. I also need you guys to tell me where you want to be. The last assignments were fine, but I had the feeling that some of you didn't want to moderate certain team forums, so we need to redo this.

Here's how I'm going to solve this problem... Sam Lacey stays. He played a decade ahead of Embry, when the sport was tougher, and he's the franchise leader in rebounds and steals. He was also with the franchise three years longer. Case closed. Thanks for searching (for those who did).

Wow, just realized something... http://i.ebayimg.com/t/1961-Fleer-12-Wayne-Embrey-Rookie-Royals-EX-MT-5167-/00/$(KGrHqJ,!gwE287pY6F,BOEzCRWfQQ~~0_3.JPG Fleer didn't know how to spell his last name. I wonder if there are more images under that spelling. :o EDIT: Nope.

Too small, little color. That's the best one I've found, though. I've been using eBay searches for a lot of these players, lol.
-
I need OTR's help. Wayne Embry was obviously born in the 1600's, so I need color pictures. If you can find ANY that are big enough for our player images (see below) and that have him in either a Cincinnati Royals (Kings) jersey or anything BUT another team...please post them here. His head (in the picture) needs to fit in here... http://www.otrbasketball.com/players/images/wilt_chamberlain_gsw.jpg

LOL, okay...some of you are on the new server, some on the old. I have no idea which one I'm on as I'm posting this...different computer. Ugh. EDIT: According to the database and the location, this is the new server.
-
Super fast...wow. I'm sure it won't stay THIS fast, but it's nice so far.
-
Triple post FTW... I'll make these changes later. I'm having trouble accessing the FTP, so I'll need to figure that out after dinner. EDIT: There's no way Fulks is going on the GSW all-time roster. He was horrible. Don't care what era he was in...he shot a career 30%. I'd rather put Larry Smith or Antawn Jamison there. Probably Jamison. Also, I'm inclined to stick Arizin at the two, even if it means bye-bye to Mullin (who played half of his time at the two-guard, half at the three). Barry stays at the three.

Site was just moved to a new semi-dedicated server, so you should experience better performance overall. Some of you were probably booted for a while (everyone should've been), so I'm sorry for that...but we weren't down for that long, and all posts should have been restored.
-
Really quick... But he should've been. He averaged 27 a game and shot 52% from the floor in one of those seasons (averaged 25 the previous season with Portland as well), and yet he didn't make the ASG? That's a big reason why I'm not looking at achievements like that. Look at the defensive-minded players that have been robbed of a Defensive 1st or 2nd team over the years. Why do Shaq and Kobe have a combined two MVP's? It's the same thing. And, sure, the Blazers were better with Cliff...because they had Drexler, Williams, Kersey, Porter, and a well-rounded team that could go all the way to the Finals.

I love the contribution, but you're bouncing around a lot. Just go back and re-read your post without the things you quoted. "I know he played just two years, but..." "He only played two years for them, so..." "I know you want players at their true positions, but..." "He didn't play PF most of his stay, so..." The worst part about doing these is trying to stick to a criteria. I've bent it a bit, but not to the point where I'm recklessly adding players in wrong positions, never basing it on tenure, just to fit the top five players in that team's history. A great example of why this is such a problem is, last night, I asked my brother (who loves Iverson more than I do Kobe) who the greatest PG in Sixers history was. He sat and thought about it, and then said Mo Cheeks. He didn't consider Iverson. I want people to look at the roster and identify these players as the greatest at that position, and for that franchise. I'm not putting together the five greatest overall, or a team of players that would do well on the court together. If I asked someone who the greatest PF in Laker history was, and they told me Kareem, I'd slap the shit out of them, and I think you would too. ---------- With that said, I'll make some changes to the new ones. ??? Regardless of that, I'll probably add Rodman. I can't do that to Allen. The difference between Ray and DJ was that Ray Allen was the primary scoring option, one of the greatest shooters of all-time (to combat your argument about DJ's defense) and he actually led the team almost every season he was with them. The Finals MVP can't sway my decision. Tony Parker won a Finals MVP when Duncan was leading the team. If they both played the same position, there'd be no way on Earth I'd stick Parker over Duncan. Ray Allen was Seattle, at one point. Dennis Johnson wasn't. That 1979 team was Gus' team. He took the shots and ran the offense, and it was Gus that basically turned into a superstar during the playoffs, averaged almost 27 a game and shot a sky-high FG percentage. Donaldson never crossed my mind, but that makes more sense. Hill is out...but he's no doubt the best SF in Orlando's history if he stayed healthy for at least 2-3 more seasons (didn't look at his games played, thought he had a couple more seasons under his belt over there). I can't comment on the rest because I need to leave, but I read all of it. I'm sure I'll change a few things. It's difficult running through complete franchise histories, 1950's - present, especially when I'm diving into an era where these guys really had it easier. When I'm down there, I don't get an accurate position for these players, so I have to read up on the rosters and the minutes played (they don't tell me games started), and go through 5-10 seasons for some of these guys. Back in late 2009, I created a topic for each team, asking us to help with these...and there were very few replies altogether, so I had no choice but to assume this was going to be all about me, then I'd get the feedback later.
