Who were you at JBB? Same name? We have quite a few former JBB members here. Welcome to the best.

I understand that. I figured that more than half do it because they feel as if their lives have no meaning. Well, the way I see it, anyone and everyone can seek help, and if there have been people helped before, it's possible for anyone to step away from it. There have been those who have tried to commit suicide, and failed. Some are on medication, some aren't...but, ultimately, some are still alive and are actually doing better, glad that they failed. So when I hear that, I think, "Why should I feel sorry for anyone that succeeds in committing suicide, when those that have failed, and are now doing better, were at rock bottom before pulling out of it?" A possibility is endless if proven just once. Everyone has a chance to get help, and there's a possibility for everyone that it will save their lives. I would expect people to call me stupid if I didn't get my eyes fixed, especially if I had all the means to get it done. If, mentally, I was crushed from waking up blind, and it made me sit and sulk forever...I would be a complete fool not to do something about it if the option was in my reach.

Rubio Could Be Getting Closer To NBA
Real Deal replied to MainEv3nt's topic in General NBA Discussion
Good point, actually...but I would think that playing in the pros would help that a little better than not coming over when he can. I don't see why Rubio couldn't manage to get just ONE deal from someone like Nike or Adidas, anything of the sort. That would've taken care of the problem with the buyout. -
I consider people weak-minded if they kill themselves over being teased in high school, also. As Justin pointed out earlier, he's gotten teased about his weight. That didn't mean he went out and hopped off a bridge, although there are some who commit suicide because of that very reason. And in most cases, people that commit suicide do it because they are weak-minded. Those that do it while influenced by drugs take those drugs to make it easier to do such a thing...but they had those thoughts for obstacles many people are able to overcome in life...and that's mainly why I don't feel much remorse for the majority of those who do take their lives. If a doctor tells you that you have a month to live, and you go ahead and kill yourself...maybe I feel a little bad. But if you're drinking and you just lost your job and your wife, and you cut your wrists, I have no reason to feel any remorse for you. In any case, if homeless people are strong enough to live on the streets for years, with no companion and few clothes, lack of money and no reason to be proud of their life or happy to be living it...then almost anyone can live with troubles.

Yep, I pick Gordon. He should've went earlier.

Rubio Could Be Getting Closer To NBA
Real Deal replied to MainEv3nt's topic in General NBA Discussion
They said on ESPN earlier that he's going to play for two years in Spain. Earlier today, in fact. So again, who really knows. He's starting to remind me of Brett Favre. -

Next time you mention it, you're gone for two weeks. I'm tired of telling you, almost like I need to sit you in the corner and take away your allowance for two weeks. The Lakers fans don't care too much for your excessive baiting, and you're slowly making your grand exit from OTR. I will speed it up if that's your intention. Back on topic. -
Sorry for the inactivity, guys. I've been doing a lot of repairs around the house over the last few days, and then I went over to TLN to help put up the new board at around midnight last night, finished up at around 3:30 or 4:00 am. Slept, woke up and had to pull a radiator cooling fan from my car after it locked up, so it's an on-and-off thing right now. Banners and team forums are still on the clock, though. I'm also waiting on some sort of a resolution for the skin caching problems we're having (where all team skins screw up when I edit the main skin). Busy, busy, busy.

Max of 10 questions each. Keep it appropriate, both questions and answers, please. Topic closes in five days. 1) If you could bring back one member who left us back on the old OTR, who would you bring back? 2) Which member do you get along with the best here? 3) Pick one current player from the Rockets that belongs on their banner the most. 4) Pick one former player from the Rockets that would belong on their banner. 5) On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the highest, rate your hate for McGrady right now. 6) How many wins for Houston this upcoming season? 7) Pick three members who you feel would make excellent moderators. 8) Since I believe in God, I wouldn't know...do you practice not saying, "Oh my God," when something shocking or funny occurs? 9) What one thing would you change about OTR? 10) What one thing do you miss (or don't miss) about the old OTR?

Poorly disguised Nash joins Beijing pick-up game
Real Deal replied to Built Ford Tough's topic in Phoenix Suns Team Forum
Sean, this is about the time you break out one of your jokes. -
Kobe is a better scorer than LeBron because he has more moves in his arsenal at the offensive end. Malone is the better scorer than Barkley because stats prove so. When you average 31 PPG on 56% from the floor, including four consecutive seasons of 28+ PPG on over 50% shooting, you're an excellent scorer. Barkley shot a high percentage, but after his MVP season (in 1993, at 29 years old), I think Charles only hit 50% just once more, and never averaged 24 points or more in the remaining seven seasons of his career. Don't even think he topped 28 in his career, either. Not to mention the fact that Barkley had around 24,000 career points, while Malone should be second on the all-time list with 37,000. You knock off 5,000 points or so for the extra three seasons he played, and he still tops Sir Charles by almost 8,000 points. As far as Karl Malone's production in the fourth quarter, I don't see where you get that he didn't contribute enough. He was a pretty good fourth-quarter player, especially in the early and mid-90's. In fact, he was good enough to draw a lot of attention near the rim, enough to get a great deal of illegal defenses called against the opposing team (back when it was illegal to double) and had a knack for getting to the foul line as well. It's one reason why the Jazz trusted him against the Bulls in the Finals, both years, and why Jordan immediately came over to swat the ball out of Karl's hands, bring it down the court and hit the game-winner for that sixth ring. If Jordan didn't sneak up on him, Rodman was going to give up a basket, since Malone had already dropped 31 on Dennis on 58% from the floor. And just so you know, Malone also added 11 rebounds in that game (game-high among both teams) and seven assists (also a game-high). Rodman picked up five fouls just trying to contain him. Malone was an excellent, excellent player, and better than Charles, who is the third best power forward in the history of the game, in my opinion (next to Duncan and Malone).

1) Dwyane Wade (if the Heat win 50+ games) 2) LeBron James 3) Kobe Bryant Nobody else will touch the amount of first-place votes these guys will get. With Gasol and Artest, along with Odom coming back, I don't see Kobe winning the award unless the Lakers have a 70-win season.

There are people that end their lives because their wives leave them. If that's the problem, and they kill themselves because of that, oh well. I might as well make an excuse for the people that shoot down a school full of children, because quite frankly, I just don't know what they are thinking, or what problems they are going through, at that time.

Well, people will talk about John Stockton, but they forget what Kevin Johnson did. KJ was putting up Steve Nash numbers, and seeing that Nash won two MVP's for those, you'd think Johnson would've gotten some recognition as well.

Rubio Could Be Getting Closer To NBA
Real Deal replied to MainEv3nt's topic in General NBA Discussion
Who really knows how much truth this has to it, though? I'm already getting to the point where I could care less if Rubio ever steps foot on an NBA court. -
I'm going to tell you right off the bat, you need to stop acting like you're Bill Walton. You don't know everything. I know you have personal agendas here with a few members, but you won't resort to talking to everyone in that manner. You doubt anyone knows a lick about Barkley? He was my favorite player before Kobe came along, and I watched him in Philly, Phoenix, and Houston...more than you did, I can assure you of that. You aren't 30 years old. Karl Malone was the better overall player. He was the better defensive player, easily, and he had better post moves, better leader, better attitude, and he was an all-around better scorer at the four. All Barkley had on Malone was his rebounding and passing (especially in his days as a Sixer), but Malone was also a pretty good passer, so the gap wasn't too wide in that area. It also wasn't good that Barkley ended his career early -- right where he started, in fact, in Philly -- while Karl Malone was one of the most durable players of all-time. If it wasn't for Jordan, Barkley would've had him a ring. Malone would've had two, including another MVP award to add to the two he already won. As far as whispering Barkley in the same breath as Kobe in defensive abilities go, that's insane. Kobe is one of the better defensive players at the two-guard position. Barkley didn't touch that as a power forward, and McGrady doesn't even belong in that discussion, either, ever.

You can probably pass out, but you won't die. There's a point where you can cut enough oxygen off to the brain that it staggers you and maybe puts you into shock, but you can't kill yourself that way. If someone was choking you, yes. Different story.

A lot of people that commit suicide aren't even in the right state of mind to begin with, so they really don't care and are literally numb to it. Sure, I can't stab myself right now. I'm pretty sure, though, that if I were mentally ill in a sense that I just couldn't cope with life, to the point where I felt the walls were closing in, I would get it done without hesitation. Some hesitate. Some don't. Some won't even think about it. The way you feel about the subject has nothing to do with age. I know two people who have committed suicide (know as in just know of and have spoken to before). One did it because of his wife leaving him with his kids, and the other never left a note or anything, just used a rope and a chair (went to school with him). My take on it is that suicide is a weakness, a quick exit from your problems, and I refuse to respect that, especially when I've had more problems than either of those people and have never thought about killing myself, not once. Never wanted to just die. It's ridiculous. There is no better gift in this world than life. Without it, you have nothing. If you want to reject that gift using your own hands, so be it...but that only tells me that you reject everything else, which includes respect you can give to everyone around you, and sympathy you could be given if you had decided to seek help on the matter, instead of locking your emotions up and throwing away the key. It takes balls to admit you're wrong, and to seek help. It's extremely hard to do, especially among your friends and family. It's not only embarrassing, but it also builds uncertainty and insecurities within those around you, as well as yourself. Once you decide you are worthless on this Earth, when you truly feel it and you could care less about anything else, that one bullet is a better friend than anyone around you, and it doesn't take balls to get it done, it takes stupidity and a lack of respect, for the life you have and for the people's lives around you, the ones (such as your parents) that would give their lives just for you.

Possibly... It's been a while since we used that. I'll edit it soon.
