Kevin Martin Finally 100 Percent Healthy
AboveLegit replied to ChosenOne's topic in Houston Rockets Team Forum
Agreed completely. With Yao coming back, Kevin's offensive output will only increase. -
Two games played, two interceptions for Polamalu. He's back.

Our defense looked good for the most part against the Cowboys last week, enough for me to feel somewhat confidence in us coming into week 2. We played good against the pass, the defense was very disciplined, they stayed home with their man, didn't try to make too much out of one play, got the sure tackle, and a lot of 3 and outs. The blitz scheme that Haslett runs is perfect for this defense and its' players, I think we can apply enough pressure on the Houston frontline to cause problems for Shaub. As for Arian Foster, I don't expect him to have a huge game, but I do expect him to get 80+ yards. Another huge plus for the Skins is that we're playing at home in front of 90,000 fans. Let's not forget, Kyle Shanahan knows that offense very well, so I'm sure it will help us out on defense. My prediction is a Skins win in a hard fought game. Should be interesting to see a great defense go up against an explosive offense.

You can knock on Rondo for being a poor shooter, but that has nothing to do with basketball IQ. Shooting is a skill, IQ is an intangible. 1. Kobe 2. Duncan 3. Garnett 4. Nash 5. Kidd These lists seem to opinionated though, you can't really make a clear distinction between Nash, Rondo, Kidd, etc. They are all up there as players with the highest basketball IQ.

I still would take Pierce over Granger if I'm choosing between the two to lead me to a championship. Good list nonetheless. The only problem I have with it is Pierce being so low. IMO, I still think he's top 5 worthy.

Moss and the all-time greatest WRs
AboveLegit replied to Real Deal's topic in AFC Conference Discussion
I think Sanders' line doesn't get enough credit as it was kind of a no name line, but it was still good. I'm not as familiar with Payton supporting cast, but I do know that they didn't get a playoff win until his ninth season despite the fact that he constantly had phenomenal seasons (I mean, how bad does the rest of your team have to be if you go 9-5 when your running back rushes for over 1800 yards). Not to mention I always thought that Payton was a good bit better than his immediate comteporaries at the time (Dorsett was faster and Campbell was more punishing, but neither them were as close to as consistent as Payton), where as I never got that feeling watching Sanders (Smith was every bit as good as a running back as Sanders just not as flashy and Thomas gets a little underrated but was just as effective as Sanders because of his all around game). Sanders though I don't think is ever put into the proper context. He never played in a system that was ever geared to run the ball, and I mean ever. He played a good portion of his career in the run and shoot, which leads to a lot of delays and not many straight ahead running plays. This had both positive and negative effects on Sanders career. Since most teams when playing the Lions prepared themselves to get beaten by the pass, gave Sanders a lot of running room, but at the same time, the Lions never focused on Sanders as a runner. He only finished in the top 5 in rushing attempts three times in his career (and only once higher than 4th) despite always being in the top 3 in rushing yards. In the season where he rushed for over 2000 yards, he outgained Terrell Davis by 300 yards despite carrying the ball 30 less times. So, he never got the workhorse numbers that other great running backs like Brown, Payton, and Smith got. Could Sanders have carried a team like Payton did, probably not, he wasn't built in the same way that Payton was and probably would've broken down under that kind of treatment. But he was effective in the system that he ran in and if he hadn't retired he would've absolutely shattered Payton's record and kept so far out of reach that Smith wouldn't have gotten a sniff of it considering that he didn't have the wear and tear that most backs would have gotten at that point in their career. Now if I had to take one of them, I'd probably take Payton, who would've had a 2000 yard rushing if the Bears had any semblance of a passing game in his prime (of course, if the offensive minds in Dallas had any creativity after Turner left, Smith would've had a 2000 yard season instead of just constantly running him inside the tackle). Payton just has more evidence that you could successfully build an offense around him, whereas Sanders, while he might have been able to carry team, never had the evidence of an offense being constructed around him. My list for RB's all time is: 1. Walter Payton 2. Jim Brown 3. Barry Sanders 4. Emmitt Smith 5. Marshall Faulk -
Saving Private Ryan by far.

Moss and the all-time greatest WRs

Who averaged more receiving yards per game than Torry Holt in the decade? Nobody. And that's with Marc Bulger as his QB for much of his prime. Had Torry played with a Manning, a great QB with longevity, Torry's numbers would look even better. He had Kurt Warner when Warner was great for that 2 or 3 year period. Another thing Holt had to deal with, other than not having one of the greats as his QB during his prime, Holt had to share his catches/receiving TD's with Marshall Faulk. It's one thing to have Isaac Bruce on the other side stealing TD's from Holt, but when the running back is arguably the best receiving running back ever- that really hurt Torry's TD numbers. Giving Harrison and Holt the eyeball test, knowing who their QB's have been and who they had to share touches with, they are one in the same to me in terms of pure talent. Both had great hands, both about the same size (Holt a tad bigger), both great route runners, and both had great speed. I'd put both of them in the same category as Andre Reed- Tim Brown- Isaac Bruce... Hall of Famers... the smaller style playmakers. Talk about great hands and route running? Talk about Torry Holt. His last few seasons have been unspectacular, yeh, but the previous 8 seasons?... GREATNESS. The man once had 143 catches in one season, I don't think that will ever be broken. Just think about it, most receivers getting 70 catches is considered a great season, let alone twice that total? You will not find many 8-year stretches like Harrison had from 1999-2006. In 06 in fact, at age 34, he led the league in touchdowns. He's 2nd all-time in receptions, 5th in receiving yards, and 5th in touchdowns. Holt was never the endzone threat Harrison was and of the "big three" this decade of Owens, Moss, and Harrison, Marvin is the only one with a ring. And using your logic, Rice was spoon fed being in a pass heavy offense with two great QB's. -
Moss and the all-time greatest WRs

Wow you guys are severely underrating Irvin. Michael Irvin was the leader of the Cowboys- a dynasty. Ask anybody who knows Cowboys football- ask'em who the voice/leader was at that time. Now, Irvin did have a cocaine problem, but a cocaine problem wouldn't keep me from saying that Lawrence Taylor is possibly the greatest defensive player to ever play. Nobody outworked Michael Irvin. Talking about a guy who could not be stopped on third down... only God himself could stop Michael Irvin from moving the chains. Irvin was one of the most unbelievable receivers of his time. Unbelievable strength and route running- strong hands... Irvin was so unstoppable on 3rd down that he didn't need Moss speed to get open deep... teams would do all they could to stop Mike from getting the 1st downs and he'd double move'em and grab 40-50 yard passes over the top. Nothing they could do. -

Jerry Rice is the all time greatest, no doubt about it. The man won 3 superbowls and took the Raiders to another one. He is the all-time leader in touchdowns and he was a wide receiver, not only that, but the man with the 2nd most touchdowns, Emmit Smith, isn't even close on the all-time list. Rice was able to go down the middle, was an amazing red-zone target, and had the surest hands of anybody who ever played. He wasn't as talented as Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Tim Brown, or even Marvin Harrison, but he is by all standards the greatest receiver ever. 1. Rice 2. Irvin 3. Moss 4. Owens 5. Hutson 6. Largent 7. Harrison 8. Carter 9. Monk 10. Alworth My list isn't perfect by any means, it's just something I put together quickly. -
[Completed] NBA's best player to never be an all-star
AboveLegit replied to Real Deal's topic in General NBA Discussion
Oh come on guys, no one has said Derek Harper yet??? The man had 7 straight years of averaging 15+PPG and 5+APG (including 5 straight years of 7+APG). He was a huge contributor on a good Mavericks team, and is probably the best all around player out of anyone mentioned in this thread thus far. -
Not to mention it will frustrate Desean Jackson who is so used to being the deep play threat. He won't be getting many of those this season.
-
You can't really bench him now, especially when you traded possibly the greatest QB in the history of your franchise. It would be another stupid move by the organization. Give him a real opportunity to shine. He's started what, 3 games his entire career? Give me a break. Vick played great, I won't take anything away from his performance, but let me see him go up against a defense that actually has a set gameplan against him. The Packers were caught off guard, they didn't know before the game had started that Kolb would suffer a concussion.
-
Yeah he's not worthy of the sixth pick, but he's still the starter making an impact on the game. He is a good tackler, he's all over the field, and is slowly progressing into a good free safety. He's terrible in coverage, always has been, but it's something that can be rectified.

[Completed] All-time most athletic NBA player

The same was said about MJ, the difference is, MJ had a much quicker first step. And yes, my answer is Michael Jordan. -
Landry is far from a bust.

I see you put Duncan over Kobe, any reason why? This was the one that got me thinking the most. I'm really confused with this. Is Kobe in his prime right now? In my opinion, he still is, and that's why he's above guys like Duncan. He's proven everything in his prime. He proved he can win while coexisting with another superstar, he proved that he can showcase all his talents by dropping 35ppg, and he proved he can win as the clear cut leader of a team, twice. Kobe is a much scarier player because he can impose his will through sheer talent at any moment in the game when the team needs it. Whereas Duncan provides a constant wave of excellence and presence, when there is a balance or tipping point in the game, Kobe will succeed more than any other player will, or even has the ability to.
-
Not by position, just rank them 1-10. Here's my list: 1. Shaq 2. Kobe 3. Duncan 4. Garnett 5. Tmac 6. LeBron 7. Iverson 8. Wade 9. CP3 10. Pierce

Stole this off a forum I'm on, thought it was an interested topic that could spark some good discussion here.... If you had to choose out of today's players in there primes what would the list look like?. What players accomplished in there careers have nothing to do with it. I'm simply talking about there primes and or peak years. So someone like T-Mac wouldn't get punished for not making it out of the 1st round in his career.

Wizards call in for Carmelo

http://dc.sbnation.com/2010/8/18/1629553/carmelo-anthony-trade-nuggets-rumor-wizards That basically did it for me, there's no way Washington can come up with an offer better than what the Kings, Rockets, Clippers, and Knicks. -
Wall dominates the Elite 24 game

God, that crossover was nasty. -
But at the same time, how many centers force Perkins to move outside the paint? With his role on the Celtics, he's one of the best defenders in the league. Oden commits a ton of fouls, and is not a better rebounder than Perkins. Dwight Howard said it himself, Perkins gave him the most problems.
-
Very solid list, but Oden over Perkins? Not sure about that.
