  1. Yeah I don't expect much out of him, he has really digressed even as a spot up shooter after leaving DC a few years ago. But he's a good veteran presence to have in the locker room, and would provide some depth at the guard spot. I would have preferred we used our cap space on a guy like Chuck Hayes or Reggie Williams, but whatever.
  2. Obviously this is derived from the Hornets trade rumors.. If you're the Hornets, who would you rather build around? Never mind the other players potentially involved in the thread, just focus on these two. Keep in mind the Hornets have holes at both guard positions, so you really can't go wrong with either. Coming into the league, no one thought of Curry as anything more than a shooter, but after last year, he has the makings of a top PG in this league. His court vision and passing ability is underrated by many, and he has one of the purest jumpers in the league. If there's one player in the league right now with the ability to break Ray Allen's three point record (or at the very least come close to it), it's him. He's still a work in progress, he needs to lower his turnover rate, but the foundation is there. It's also worth noting that in the 17 games Monta Ellis missed last season, Curry averaged over 23ppg and 8 apg. In his first two years Eric Gordon was always known as an efficient scorer with a limited role on the team, but after last year it's safe to assume he has the potential to be a top SG in the league. Honestly, I can't think of anyone who can rival him other than Wade and Kobe in two years should he develop accordingly. He averaged 22PPG, 45%FG and 4.4apg on 18.5PER last year. Not to mention he's a great defender and can get to the rim at will.
  3. One dimensional spot up shooter. Yup, sounds like a Mike Brown type player.
  4. Not really, CP3 can easily go to the Lakers if the Clippers continue to low ball the Hornets. I understand LA's reluctance to trade Eric Gordon, he could very well be a top 3 SG by next season. Gordon has always been an efficient scorer, but last year he put up great numbers on an increased workload. But if you want a great PG like CP3, you need to give up a valuable asset like Eric.
  5. If they can create a defined role for him in this condensed season, this is a terrific signing. As he's gotten older, he's obviously lost his athleticism which has forced him to rely on his shot a little more, but he's still able to handle the ball and create for teammates, which is a great attribute off the bench. They need a scorer off the bench, hopefully they got it.
  6. Meh, not a huge deal, he's replaceable. Players that step up on championship teams tend to get overvalued in the FA market. Just look at James Posey, Trevor Ariza, and Hedo Turkoglu. Besides, the Mavs have two replacements for JJ.. Rudy Fernandez and Roddy Beaubois.
  7. Brilliant idea by the Warriors by deciding to rethink the idea of a one year rental with CP3. If New Orleans is unable to find a better offer than Monta/Klay, they will eventually take the deal. Golden State then would have successfully dumped Monta's contract, which would free up a lot of cap space in 2012. Who knows, maybe they can make a run at Dwight Howard to convince CP3. In hindsight, a Curry/CP3 backcourt won't work because it is too small and they would have no one but shooters. That's an valuable skillset Monta possesses, But Curry is also a more efficient scorer than Ellis, better rebounder, and just a slightly worse defender for a 2 guard. Despite the issues that backcourt may create now, Golden State is clearly looking at the future, and Curry has more trade value than Ellis.
  8. Well this is just speculation right now, but based purely off of playing styles, I have a hard time imagining the two getting the most out of each other. Blake's midrange game is suspect, and that's a must while playing alongside Dwight Howard.
  9. Makes perfect sense, a Blake-Dwight duo just won't work. It will be great to see, but a CP3-Blake duo has the potential to be great.
  10. We already had a thread on this, but this is a solid write up. Some questionable grades here and there, but at least you put some thought into each pick.
  11. Terrible contract, Kendrick Perkins is much more established at the center position and he got $32 mill from the Thunder. This is the problem with these type of contracts that are purely based off potential, it can really bite you in the ass if the player doesn't pan out. Not sure a team like the Clips should be throwing around that type of money when they could be on the verge of landing a big named star. This offer is sure to make Marc Gasol and Tyson Chandler very very greedy.
  12. Wow that's huge, I think they really see something in him. I hope he bounces back and stays healthy, one of my favorite players to watch.
  13. http://twitter.com/#!/jwquick Read a little more of Nate McMillan's press conference, apparently Roy has rested a lot during the lockout, and finally tested his knee and says it's very strong now. You can interpret this two ways, either Roy is truly healthy and ready to play, or the front office has a plan to use the amnesty and hope for a high offer. They could just be building Roy's image up in an attempt to recoup as much salary as they can from the team that ends up signing him.
  14. Excited to see Shumpert, I really think he can play well under Dantoni. Not to mention he could learn a lot from Billups.
  15. It's funny how everyone is assuming he doesn't get endorsement deals now despite being a top 5 player in this league. News flash, just because you're not playing for the Knicks, doesn't mean you aren't getting endorsement deals elsewhere. You think LeBron went to Miami because of a bigger market? No, he created a big market in Cleveland, got all of the endorsements he ever wanted there, and essentially controlled the franchise. I don't know Dell Demps motives, if he plays hardball with Paul and forces him to play out the season and honor his contract, that's fine. He would be sending a message, and forcing Paul to lose out on $40 million. However, given what happened to Melo last year, it's logical to assume that the Hornets will want something valuable in return for their star player. Notice how I bolded valuable, NOT Landry Fields, NOT Toney Douglas, and NOT a 2018 first round pick. The new CBA has forced teams to think twice before signing and trading players, it's not as easy as it once was. At the end of the day, this is a business, spiting Chris Paul rather than looking at the best interest in the team is absolutely stupid.
  16. Well Davis' night is done, came two blocks short of a triple double. Scary to think how he's going to look by March, could be dominant.
  17. The casual fan would think Davis is just a good weakside defender, but he's so much more. He can anchor the paint by himself, his man to man defense is great, and he's smart.
  18. That lob to Anthony Davis has been there almost every possession for Kentucky. Cannot wait to see the UNC game. Zeller and Henson going up against Davis, Strickland guarding Teague, Gilchrist guarding Barnes.
  19. St. Johns has some athletic players on the team, not sure why Dunlap isn't pushing the pace of the game. These halfcourt sets aren't working for them, Kentucky is just killing them. Gilchrist is just one of those intangible players, he needs to develop something on offense in order for him to stand out.
  20. Not sure why Dick Vitale said Derrick Rose struggled when he first got to Memphis, I recall him playing very well early on. He had some trouble playmaking, but not like Teague.. Right now, Teague is more of a combo guard, he just forces things way too often, and looks for his shot too much. Biggest problem I have with him is that he doesn't have the court vision that we saw with John Wall, or even Derrick Rose. He's going to be more like Brandon Knight.
  21. YES. Probably my favorite part about his game, he runs the floor very well, and it showed on that last play.
  22. If they don't win a championship this season, do you think they ever will? Will Pat Riley become impatient and trade one of the big three? Heat are the favorites to win it all this season, the Mavs are most likely losing Tyson Chandler, the Lakers have a new coach, and Boston is aging. I'm not saying they have no competition at all (Chicago is a major threat as well as a few others), just trying to justify why they're the favorites.
  23. 08 Lakers lost to the Celtics in the Finals, but I guess you're talking about the 09 Lakers. Anyways, that team was definitely more balanced than what the Knicks would be should they trade for CP3. They had huge contributions from Odom and Ariza in the playoffs, there's a reason why they won 65 games that year.. Miami only won 58 last season. Paul is one of my favorite players in the league, I've stated over and over that he's the best PG we've seen since Zeke, and I stand by it. I would love to finally see him on a team with two elite offensive weapons, but I just can't fathom it given the Knicks situation.
  24. Our third chatroom of the week BFT. Looking forward to this game.
  25. Not sure why people are getting so worked up over this. The trio of CP3, Melo, and Amare will only take you so far. Who's their SG? Who's their C? Who's on their bench? Remember the trio of Nash, Marion, and Amare back in 2004-05? Why did they go to the WCF? Not only was that offense the best in the league, but they also had the best supporting cast. A trio featuring two offensive minded players with a good amount of flaws will not win a ring on their own. The Heat may get by with a lousy cast because they have the two best players in the game. Like it or not, the Knicks made a mistake trading for Melo (and more importantly, trading their best assets for him). They could have gotten a much better player for a lesser value. The CBA prevented players from restructuring their contracts for a potential trade, and has also limited the ways of making a sign and trade offer. This rumor just doesn't seem possible to me.
