Raptors Re-Sign Gray to 2 Year, $5M Deal
Check my Stats replied to Built Ford Tough's topic in Toronto Raptors Team Forum
I don't know why we would commit any more salary for next year than we need to. I really don't see what he did to earn a 2 year deal, but apparently Casey loves him for whatever reason. I would rather see us just keep as much flexibility as possible next summer. A guy like Josh Smith is someone that would be worth taking a serious run at IMO, though our chances at landing anyone significant are obviously small. I just don't see any reason to unnecessarily lock up 2.5M in salary on an incredibly replaceable player. Contract management has always been BC's biggest issue as a GM in this league, by far, ever since the beginning (see Penny Hardaway, and anyone else he has ever re-signed when he has money at his disposal). I do give him credit though, he is a master at cleaning up the messes he unnecessarily makes in the first place. -
If dude was smart he would call Miami up, say cancel your deal with Ray Allen, and give me the MLE. Round your career out on the beach, playing 20 minutes a night, and winning a title. If he's after money he can get it somewhere (Toronto, for example). But Miami is a fit AND a championship team.

Nick Young reaches a deal with the Sixers

I don't get why they want a worse version of Lou Williams. -
Don't like this at all. Its so weird that while so good as a starter, he just could never adapt to a bench role. I understand it is harder to get in a rhythm, especially knowing you could get pulled any minute. Hopefully not many teams are interested, and we can bring him back at a lower rate? Or is that not allowed? I think he can be a piece for a team. Don't be surprised, if he goes to a team where he gets to start, if he doesn't put up really nice numbers. I think he has a chance to be good in this league, just sucks we didn't give him that shot lasts season, and started Jose instead all those games. Stupid really.

Rockets trade Lowry for a 1st round pick
Check my Stats replied to magicbalala245's topic in Houston Rockets Team Forum
I am excited to bring in a nice point guard like Lowry who is a hound on defense, which Toronto fans are unfamiliar to at the point guard spot. However, this is a really risky deal. I hope Toronto makes the playoffs next year, but it is probably for the best we don't. This is a really interesting deal. If that pick winds up being in the 3-7 range, Houston wins, but anything in the late lottery, you have to feel like Toronto got a nice deal. I would have liked to have seen heavier protection though, like top 3 protected for all 5 years, or maybe go 5 first year, then 4, then 3, etc. Oh well, it'll be interesting to see how it plays out. After picking in the late lottery the past 3 years, who bets when Houston gets this pick, it's top 5? It just sucks BC didn't make this deal when he could have, 2 weeks ago, at a much less riskier cost. Toronto wins this deal today, but when Houston gets that pick, well, shit could be really ugly... like Toronto Maple Leafs ugly. Colangelo is like that sim league GM who trades off all his future assets to try and be okay for that one year. He's such a jack ass lol. -
Rockets sign Lin to offer sheet
Check my Stats replied to Need4Sheed's topic in Houston Rockets Team Forum
Knicks will match, and Houston will be glad they did in the long run I feel. Rockets really shot themselves in the foot with the Lowry deal. They better hope Toronto makes the playoffs next year, cuz if we don't, that pick is going to be right near that 14 spot Houston picks almost every year lol. -
What Happens With Calderon Now?
Check my Stats replied to Built Ford Tough's topic in Toronto Raptors Team Forum
I only think we amnesty him if we somehow offer an FA a huge contract that they agree to, and even then it'd be A) overpaying for someone like Batum (who wouldn't come here, but just an example), and B) most likely an RFA who could just easily get matched. I figure we ride out the year, use him for a filler in a deal if needed (that rumoured Iggy deal), and just let him expire at season's end, and probably bring him back at a much lower (who am I kidding, probably 6M a year) cost next year. Jose is one of the best backup points in the league, if not the best, I have, and will always give him that much. My money is on him being used in a trade or kept all year. He is a really useful player on the bench, and a really good insurance policy if Lowry gets hurt. Clearly we are hell bent on winning 42 games this year, so I really doubt we amnesty anyone this year, and just amnesty Kleiza next summer to beef up our cap space we're set to have. -
Really don't see him being much of a contributor at this point in his career. Not a great shooter which is the number 1 thing I think you want out of a role playing SF/SG, and while he is competent defensively I guess, he's nothing special. He's a guy who can contribute, but not really at a particularly high level. I guess LA would be the best fit, but if he wants to win a title, the obviously choices are Miami/OKC if they want him, which I don't know why they really would.

Brandon Roy to T-Wolves
Check my Stats replied to Cleveland's Finest's topic in Minnesota Timberwolves Team Forum
This is crazy. Did they at least get to see him workout? Did anyone? I can't believe this. And I doubt Portland really cares, seeing as they got out of that horrible contract they were saddled with (I think) -
Thunder sign Hasheem Thabeet

Useless player is useless. Why bother trying to develop him when you have an actual hard working kid with a nose for the ball in Aldrich. -
Beasley and Suns agree to 3 year contract
Check my Stats replied to Dash's topic in Phoenix Suns Team Forum
He will look a lot better there. Finally going to get a chance to just do what he does best (something he doesn't do all that well) without any repercussions on the other end. Don't be surprised when he put up very nice, albeit hollow numbers this year. -
Kudos to LA though. Ponied up the cash, and maybe even overpaid (the picks), but they are doing what it takes to make their championship window a little bit wider. Don't think Dwight is necessary, but obviously that would help them even more. Having a point like Nash, whose usage is probably going to go down and he might not look as nice statistically out of PHX, is still going to be huge for that team offensively. Defensively you can live with when you have two legit 7 footers standing at the rim waiting and a defensive specialist for a coach.
-
Surprising, and a big time price to pay, but this makes LA legit championship contenders again (I already thought they were, tbh). Now that they basically have a coach playing point guard, Brown's offensive incompetencies will be hidden. Safe to say I will be rooting for LA this year, excited to see what Nash does for this team.

If BC backed out of the deal ,that would be amazing and hilarious. Like Toronto doesn't have a hard enough time signing free agents already, you can be all but assured he would be black balled by numerous agents in the NBA after a stunt like that. It is time to move on. Hire a GM out of the Spurs, OKC, or any organization. I don't care who they are. Rebuild, tank, whatever you want. Do it the right way. I've had enough. If BC doesn't reel in Nash, this franchise should be embarrassed for this whole debacle.

So... what was the lockout for again?
Check my Stats replied to kingfish's topic in General NBA Discussion
Hilarious. So is New Jersey incredibly well managed because Dwight wants to play there? Or Deron knows he is coming? Miami is incredibly well managed because they cleared the books, and live in a hot climate? Don't fool yourself, Miami did nothing extraordinary to acquire their 'big 3', it just happened to be the most convenient landing spot. They did a shit job surrounding Wade with talented players since 07, but you're right, it takes terrific management to clear your cap and sign 3 players who are friends. A small market team could have also cleared their cap, but would it have worked? Yeah, okay... Its hilarious when people act like LA, Miami, etc are so well managed. Guess what, the reason they get all these star players, is because they WANT to go there. They literally force their way there. Players under contract can't even get traded just anywhere, somehow players under contract like Dwight still dictate where they go. Guess what, a team like Toronto can do everything wrong, but they don't get bailed out, whereas Miami/New Jersey can surround their superstars with shit for 3 years, but players WANT to go there, because of the market. So even though they do everything wrong, they get bailed out. I am not trying to sit here and make excuses for shit signings such as my favourite team's GM has made a habit of doing, but at the same time, don't sit here and ignorantly act like small market teams are more poorly managed than large markets. The big market teams have fallbacks, superstars want to be there. Teams like Miami, New York, New Jersey, etc can do everything wrong for 3, 4 years, but players still want to go there for whatever the reason may be, and that is why they are relevant. Not because their GM is some genius. Its [expletive]ing retarded.. And for the record, if Miami was so well managed, their 4th best player wouldn't be Mario Chalmers. Its just frustrating sitting here, and fans like you sit there and act like your team is so incredibly well managed. Guess what, you got what you have right now because of LeBron, Wade and Bosh, not because your team is so well managed. -
Burke was on the the 590 yesterday, and said the team today is not the team that will be going into camp. He knows we need to get bigger, and more changes will be made. Not saying we will be looking like the Bruins anytime soon, but I don't think we will be coming in with this roster as it stands, but if we do, I agree, we will continue to get pummeled by the Bruins... actually that will probably happen anyways. Also that's crazy that Parise and Suter both went to the wild. Its going to be interesting to see how Suter fares without having Weber by his side. Everyone says he hid a lot of Weber's deficiencies, so it is going to be interesting both ways I guess. Crazy contracts though, 7.5M a year for those guys is steep, especially when the cap drops as expected. Wild still have work to do though, if they think that roster as it stands is a contender, well they are [expletive]in crazy. Its pretty crazy that Parise turned down Pitt for Minnesota though. I get why, but still, crazy. Pittsburgh's top 6 would have been nuts. They'll have a lot of cap again next summer though, and there are a lot of nice FA's lined up, so we'll see I guess.

1. So that teams can't just continue to add talent even when at the luxury tax. It has already worked on Dallas, and is working on LA too (incredibly reluctant to add salary). If you are going to commit 50M to 3-4 players, your depth is probably going to be pretty bad. Obviously it isn't as effective as a hard cap in causing teams to work on restructuring, but it at least creates SOME parity since no more than a few teams will be luxury tax teams. 2. Hard cap, soft cap, luxury tax, it doesn't matter. FA's will always be overpaid. The chance to add a player, without giving up anything, will always cause GM's to hand out massive contracts, especially a sport like basketball where one player can make more difference than any other sport. 3. Teams at the lux tax can't offer the full MLE, which is kind of a weak change, but still a change none the less. If you are a 6th man type and aren't at a ring chasing point in your career, and can get 3M from the Lakers/Heat, etc, or 5+M from another team, also offering more playing time, which do you take? Probably that 5M. I would like to see some sort of an RFA compensation system similar to the NHL. For example, if you sign an RFA to a max deal, the team losing that RFA should get a first in return (for example, Phoenix gives NOH their first by signing Gordon to a gigantic contract he obviously shouldn't get). Obviously the CBA isn't perfect, but it is still an improvement over the previous one. I think it will take a while but eventually these huge contracts will kick teams in the ass when it cripples their flexibility. I think the effect of the new CBA will be seen when teams are near the luxury tax. Teams are not going to want to go more than 5M or something like that over it. -

Raptors trying to trade for Kyle Lowry

Horrible, just horrible. If we wanted Lowry, why didn't we deal the 8th pick for him? This is so gay, this whole situation continues to get more and more frustrating each day. -
Nets finalizing a S&T for Reggie Evans
Check my Stats replied to Real Deal's topic in Brooklyn Nets Team Forum
Honestly just seems like they are ready to go into this year with a Deron-Joe Johnson combo and with Brook at the 5. Honestly it isn't a bad team without Dwight, if Lopez can get healthy, and stay that way. A lot of people forget he is a 20 point scorer in this league, and can be a presence at the rim as well protecting the rim. People forget he was a 19 and 9 big 2 years ago. And with Hump committed to the glass like he is, and Wallace a good rebounder at the 3, you can almost live with his rebounding deficiencies, though he should be better than he has shown the past 2 years. Brook-Hump-Wallace-Johnson-Deron, with solid bench players thrown in there, am I crazy to call it a top 4 seed in the east? Or at least in that mix? -
I think Cleveland was hurt more by LeBron because they had a legit chance to win, because he was so much better than Dwight, whereas Orlando never really had a shot, and only made it past Cleveland that one year because their shooters NEVER missed. Dwight is a cunt. Melo is a cunt. It is insane, with how bad LeBron and Bosh jerked their teams around, that was bad enough, but these guys just both took it to a whole other level. Denver's GM is just solid and got an okay deal.

Toronto is a playoff team with Steve Nash, or at least close, which is what our ownership wants. That is why they bring him here, and on top of that, the amount in ticket sales, merchandising, etc would be worth it to pay Nash 20 million a year, they will make so much off him it is insane. If Fields was a 3, I would even be more okay with it, but where the [expletive] are we supposed to put this guy? Colangelo will probably tout Fields' flexibility, "we love that he can play the 2 or the 3, we can play multiple lineups, we love the flexibility this gives us". [expletive] man, I've defended Colangelo all these years, I knew he wasn't great, I knew he [expletive]ed up, but I continued to believe he was better than hiring a rookie GM. Now, I just say [expletive] him, and [expletive] all this lol. I have this feeling that Demar might be on his way out, with other pieces, for Rudy Gay or Andre Iguodala. It just doesn't make sense for us to have 3 SG's as core pieces.

Jrue Holiday seeking a max contract?
Check my Stats replied to Real Deal's topic in Philadelphia 76ers Team Forum
The CBA did/does nothing for people with cap space. The new CBA was designed to stop teams like Miami, LA, Boston, Dallas, etc, from having 90 million payrolls. Bad contracts will be given out in every sport, especially one where a single player can make so much of an impact in basketball, but preventing teams from stacking and stacking their rosters will at least create a bit of parity, a bit. And no one will give him that much, chill out.
