Give ME a few... damnit I'm half French. I guess I don't count -

Dirk is definitely top ten offensively, and his rating on that end shows it. His defensive stat is somewhat average, right where he belongs. How many players in NBA History have ever averaged a triple double in the playoffs? Only HoF caliber players like J-Kidd and Big O. Regardless of having all-star perimeter players (KG out), a good defensive center, and a strong bench - averaging a triple double is still a huge accomplishment. I personally don't like Rondo much, but I still think that he can potentially have an HoF caliber career if he continues to keep up this level of play, especially if he can improve his jumpshot. Are you telling me that the ability to score should outweigh everything else? An overall rating is the summary of all the player's abilities put together. In my opinion, Rondo is at about the right place in terms of what he is able to do on the court. I do agree that it is somewhat flawed, though. Chalmers (74) and Beasley (72) shouldn't be rated higher than Haslem (70), co-captain of the Heat. His awareness and hustle should outweigh Chalmers and Beasley's abilities. It's minor, though. You can't expect a video game to be perfect in every little aspect. Demos are free.

For most people, if they choose to watch basketball on TV, they normally choose to watch it at it's highest level. It's the same reason as to why a game like Cavs vs Lakers is broadcasted on ESPN or TNT over a game like Kings vs Thunder. It's not necessarily the dunks and highlights, although that is a factor cause we all love big plays, it's just seeing the game played at it's best. I can see both sides to this, though. I've watched a few WNBA games now, and the lack of male athleticism doesn't take away from the intensity of the game. Just like the NBA, it gets down to the wire and you can feel the pressure of the game. It can actually be pretty exciting to watch if you allow yourself to get into it. It's not enough for me to pay tickets to see live or anything, but at least it's something to watch during the NBA offseason.

Calderon embarrassed about his defence last season
Poe replied to headliner's topic in Toronto Raptors Team Forum
Yea, it would be huge for the Raptors if he could improve his "defence". -
Hmm... get $17M, or opt out to Free Agency where he's likely to sign to less than half. Must have been a pretty tough choice.

Kobe is the best in the world and he is STILL finding ways to get even better.
-
I'd like to see the defensive overall ratings. If Manu's IS higher than Shane's, then the ratings are truly messed up.
-
No idea, to be honest. I've already said that I don't agree with them. Perhaps it'll be updated to something more accurate as the season goes on.

I checked and Dirk has a 90 offensive rating and a 63 defensive rating. He has an A+ inside game and an A outside game. Despite his low OVERALL rating, I'm sure that you can still manage to realistically get 25 and 10 with him. LeBron vs Kobe has always been arguable. I like the updated ratings cause now it separates the superstars' ratings a bit, instead of CP3, Wade, LeBron, and Kobe all having the same grade of 99 overall. A 99 rated player should be for someone who is just about perfect in the game of basketball at their position, and I'd say Kobe is the closest out of all the players today. WTF Rondo? He averaged a triple double in the playoffs. He's going to have a high skill rating in all of the major skills for a guard (and any position, really) - passing, ball handling, pound-for-pound rebounder, stealing, man defense, awareness (leadership), etc. etc. Maybe at first glance a mid 80s rating seems high for him, but if you think about all the little details, it makes sense that he has a high rating. Players like Nash and Dirk appear to have low ratings because their trashy defensive ratings balance out the high offensive ratings. I'm sure that Nash is somewhere in the 90s on offense as well, and a 50-60 rating defense would balance that out to 80 overall. Make sense? A player like Rondo who has a somewhat high offensive rating AND a somewhat high defensive rating, plus rebounding, will appear to have an abnormally high overall rating, but I can almost guarantee you his scoring skill set will be just as one-dimensional as real life. I'm going to say this one last time, but don't judge the book by the cover. Actually use the players before you decide if the ratings are messed up or not.

For anyone who wants to know, here are the team ratings: 76ers: 78 (78 OFF, 77 DEF) Blazers: 79 (78 OFF, 78 DEF) Bobcats: 73 (66 OFF, 79 DEF) Bucks: 68 (67 OFF, 66 DEF) Bulls: 73 (71 OFF, 73 DEF) Cavs: 85 (84 OFF, 86 DEF) Celtics: 88 (88 OFF, 90 DEF) Clippers: 76 (76 OFF, 74 DEF) Grizzlies: 80 (78 OFF, 73 DEF) Hawks: 80 (82 OFF, 81 DEF) Heat: 77 (74 OFF, 81 DEF) Hornets: 80 (76 OFF, 79 DEF) Jazz: 79 (80 OFF, 77 DEF) Kings: 65 (68 OFF, 63 DEF) Knicks: 75 (70 OFF, 75 DEF) Lakers: 88 (90 OFF, 91 DEF) Magic: 83 (81 OFF, 83 DEF) Mavs: 83 (80 OFF, 80 DEF) Nets: 71 (71 OFF, 75 DEF) Nuggets: 86 (81 OFF, 89 DEF) Pacers: 72 (74 OFF, 69 DEF) Pistons: 78 (76 OFF, 77 DEF) Raptors: 73 (85 OFF, 67 DEF) Rockets: 81 (77 OFF, 83 DEF) Spurs: 80 (84 OFF, 77 DEF) Suns: 73 (77 OFF, 71 DEF) Thunder: 76 (72 OFF, 74 DEF) T'Wolves: 71 (73 OFF, 64 DEF) Warriors: 79 (76 OFF, 80 DEF) Wizards: 78 (83 OFF, 64 DEF) Some of these I don't personally agree with, haha. The Blazers and Spurs are pretty low, and the Grizzlies are a bit high.

The ratings may look suspect to a lot of you, but as I said, wait until you get the game and actually play with these players before you judge. I flipped through the pictures this guy was showing, and he did an association mode. At the end of the simulated season, the top 5 scorers were Wade (32.4 PPG), Granger (30.2 PPG), LeBron (29.0 PPG), Bryant (28.7 PPG), and C. Anthony (28.4 PPG). Are you still sure that these ratings are wrong? It wasn't just their points, either, but their all around stats were very close to how they are in real life. D. Wade, for example, had 32 PPG, 4 RPG, 6 APG, and 3 SPG. Granger had 30.2 PPG, 5 RPG, 1 APG, and 1.5 SPG. Is that not somewhat close to what you would expect from these guys next season? BTW, Rondo averaged 14 PPG, 5 RPG, 11 APG, and 2.5 SPG in the simulated season. Yea, the ratings are bogus alright.
-
If he averages anything this season like what he put up in the playoffs (17ppg, 10apg, 10rpg, 2.5spg, and ranked #7 in efficiency rating at +25.5), then yes, he could definitely be considered a top 10 player in the NBA.
-
Dirk is trash on D, and Rajon averaged nearly a triple double in the playoffs. Comparing skill by skill, Rajon has a more complete set, minus the post up and shooting ability. It makes sense that Rondo's rated a bit higher, although I'm sure Dirk is much easier to score with.
-
Considering that it's 25-100 now, the standard for a high rating is a bit different. An 80 rating probably defines an all star versus the 90 rating standard in 2k9. Comparing players, though, it does feel somewhat in the right order. I wouldn't be so quick to judge the ratings, anyway, until we've actually had a chance to use these players.

Expectations For Hedo Turkoglu?
Poe replied to Built Ford Tough's topic in Toronto Raptors Team Forum
I think Turk's ceiling this year is 22 ppg and 7 apg, his lowest I'd say would be 15 ppg and 5 apg. I think he's going to compliment the Raptors' offensive oriented team nicely. With so many shooters on the floor, it's going to open up driving lanes to the basket, and that's Turk's bread and butter right there. Turk's size and all-around offensive game will benefit for the Raptors, his passing ability will give his teammates more easy opportunities to score, and his clutch play will be the edge to winning a lot of games that could have gone either way. His impact will help bring them into the playoffs, and maybe even past the first round if they can get a good match up. -
Is 18 points, 13 assists, and 8 boards in 20 minutes not game changing? Lmao. That's like saying Jason Kidd in the prime of his HoF-worthy career is only a decent role player. I read the game and adjust. Some games I had as many as 20 assists, yet only had 10 points since it wasn't necessary for me to score. Other games I had as many as 30 points, yet only about 5 assists, since my teammates weren't reliable. Is that what a "role player" does? And don't tell me that I don't make my teammates better when I avg more ast than you, haha, and I've drawn plenty of double teams myself. Just admit that the difference is the spg. If someone was averaging 11 steals in 20 minutes in r/l, this guy would be a first round pick no questions asked. Besides, I'd rather play point for the Lakers than the Kings, anyway.

Organizations dont win championships, players do - Jordan (HOF speech)
Poe replied to xx.'s topic in General NBA Discussion
A lot of people have been talking about that. I never noticed that, personally. I think people are being too skeptical and taking his speech too seriously. -
Almost every shot I take I get the green light for good shot selection. The only reason I don't score much is because I don't always take 16 to 20 shots in a game, unless the defense gives me the extra looks or my teammates suck and I'm forced to create. I don't play offense looking for stats. Sometimes I'll let the ball move around and just get in good positioning. I don't always pass for the purpose of getting an assist, either. Sometimes I'll think 2 steps ahead. That's the type of player I am. Same thing on defense. Sometimes I'll go after passes if the right opportunity presents itself, but I normally find it more important to stick to my man and play proper help D. I'd rather have no steals and no buckets from my man than get 5 steals and get beat 10 times, which is what realistically happens when you overplay the passing lanes. If you were getting steals because the AI is truly that terrible, then that proves both my points, anyway. You were getting steals because of the faults in the game, and the difference between our picks were the amount of spg in your stats.

Organizations dont win championships, players do - Jordan (HOF speech)
Poe replied to xx.'s topic in General NBA Discussion
Well, this is a one-can't-work-without-the-other, thing. Without the players, the organization wouldn't win. Without the organization, there wouldn't be players to compete in the first place. The organization brings the players together, and it's the player's job to do the work and compete. Credit is due both ways, as well as to the coaches. Don't forget that coaches are a big part to a successful team as well. -
Yea, but what if, let's say, LeBron gets in contact with Bosh and they decide to get together in NJ to meet up with Harris, Lee, Lopez, and Yi? Think THAT will take 3 years? With all the possibilities, though, I'm willing to bet all the key Free Agents in a hyped up 2010 FA class will wind up staying home.
