Why is it not comparable? The Rags were going hard to the net during the first and made contact with Gus on multiple occasions. Frattin goes hard to the net and makes contact with Lundqvist. They are absolutely comparable. Yeah, Frattin hit Lundqvist harder but the situations are still very comparable. How am I overlooking anything? Frattin went hard to the net and made contact with Lundqvist. That is what I said. I hardly see how it is trashy as Frattin made a play that you will see hundreds of times during the course of the season. To put it simply, it is a part of hockey, always has been, and always will be. As for whether or not the goals should've counted, there is no argument for the 2nd one. It should've been a penalty to Callahan as he made absolutely no effort at all to avoid the goalie. The first one wasn't so cut and dry as Komisarek did bump Callahan, but what exactly is Callahan doing standing in Gus' crease like that anyways? If Callahan doesn't cut through the crease (on his own accord) there is no issue and you have to allow goalies space to move. If Komisarek shoved him from outside of the crease into Gus, I agree that it should absolutely have counted, but he went in there on his own. I would've been fine had the goal counted because it is debatable. I don't think the Rangers were robbed of a goal or anything like that, and I don't think the Leafs would've been screwed if the call went the other way. -
NBA "Inching closer" to ending lockout

They were going to tonight, but the union couldn't get their economist until tomorrow, so they are going to discuss BRI when they resume talks tomorrow morning at 10:30 EST. It is worth noting that Stern said they aren't going to discuss BRI until they settled all of the system issues. Since they are discussing BRI tomorrow morning, it sounds like they made a lot of progress today when it comes to the system. -

Can't really blame Frattin for going hard to the net. The Rangers were doing it all night long and made contact with Gustavsson 3 or 4 times prior to that play. I also wouldn't really call it trashy either. Its not like he went and ran him. He just made a strong move and ran out of room. -

Brayden Schenn out for 4-6 weeks with a broken foot.

Dreger just reported that Reimer is out for Saturday against the Penguins as well. EDIT: And another update, Reimer has now been placed on the IR.

He is on Prime Tim eSports right now and he just touched upon this topic. He says that the only way he will go out and spend substantial money this season is if it makes sense in terms of the rebuild, or as he called it, "The Organic Growth". He says that it is critical for the future of the team to stick to the "strategic plan" and not make any quick fix. He did mention about how he still has to spend some money this summer to fill out the roster but basically said to look forward to next year as the year where a big splash is more likely with Valanciunas and the 2012 pick coming over and the large cap flexibility. I genuinely believe that he is looking to 2012-13 to make any major moves and is very content to just ride this upcoming season (again, assuming there is one) to a top pick in the draft.

My biggest one as a Raptors fan is just imagining how different their history would've been had McGrady stayed in Toronto with Carter. Another one that would've drastically changed the landscape of the NBA is imagine if Duncan signed in Orlando in 2001 to play with McGrady. How different would their careers be looked upon had that actually happened? Just watching a prime Duncan, McGrady and a healthy Hill on the same team would've been a thing of beauty. Those are my two biggest ones, at least off the top of my head.

Inside piece, so I'll post a bit and then just list the rest. 4. Myck Kabongo, Texas 5. Marquis Teague, Kentucky 6. Ashton Gibbs, Pittsburgh 7. Josiah Turner, Arizona 8. Aaron Craft, Ohio State 9. Maalik Waynes, Villanova 10. Scoop Jardine, Syracuse 11. Tyshawn Taylor, Kansas 12. Tony Wroten Jr., Washington Thoughts? I don't follow college basketball nearly as much as others on here as it is difficult to watch any significant amount of games as I have to watch everything on the computer. It is difficult to find links for teams other than the well known schools. So I haven't seen much of any of these guys other than Marshall, Tyshawn Taylor and highlight packages of Kabongo and Teague.

Connoly will make his season debut tonight and will be centering Lupul and Kessel on the first line. Bozak will return to the lineup after suffering a foot injury in Boston. He will be centering Frattin and Lombardi on the 3rd line. Reimer won't dress against the Rangers, like originally expected. They haven't diagnosed his injury as a concussion, but from the sounds of it that is exactly what it is. They are treating it as such and Gustavsson made a comment about how "you never know with concussions" when asked about Reimer. Scrivens was called back up from the Marlies and will backup Gus tonight. Kadri has been sent back down to the Marlies. As far as I know, the lineup tonight is expected to be: Lupul - Connoly - Kessel Kulemin - Grabovski - MacArthur Lombardi - Bozak - Frattin Dupuis - Steckel - Brown Gunnarson - Phanuef Gardiner - Schenn Franson - Liles I don't know for sure if Franson is in and Komi is out, but from what I have read it sounds like that will be the case.

http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=1135214&start=75 For anybody interested, it sounds like his primary job will be controlling scouting and the draft. Good news to me as getting Kelly out as head scout is great on its own. He is still going to be with the team it sounds like, but he will have a new job description.

Assuming there is one this year, that is. http://twitter.com/#!/ekoreen/status/129613772053688322 This is good news for me. One of my biggest concerns prior to the lockout was Colangelo going out and overpaying for a veteran center, like a Tyson Chandler or a Nene so that he can move Bargnani to power forward. Not only would this add a couple of wins to the Raps record, which would likely eliminate them from contention for a top 3 pick, but ti would also create a huge log jam at the bigs next season once Valanciunas comes over. I could forsee a move in which either Ed Davis or Amir Johnson would be dealt, both of which would be awful in my opinion as I like both of these guys heading forward. Anyways, I'm more than happy going into next season with a lineup of: C: Bargnani PF: Davis SF: Johnson SG: DeRozan PG: Bayless (Calderon will likely start, though) with Amir, Alabi, Calderon, Barbosa off of the bench. It would be a long season, but if it resulted in the Raptors coming out of the draft with somebody like Harrison Barnes or Andre Drummond, it would be well worth it. Of course, who really knows with Colangelo. He can say something like this and then turn around and sign Tyson Chandler to a 4 year, $45M contract and it wouldn't surprise me at all. EDIT: Some more stuff from Wolstat:

Ahh, gotcha. Johnathan Quick has recorded 3 straight shutouts, setting a new Kings record for the longest shutout streak in history in the process, and Terry Murray decided to not play him tonight against the Devils and going with Jonathan Bernier instead. Very interesting decision by Murray, especially since prior to the season he mentioned something about "riding the hot hand" when asked about his goaltending situation. It must be nice to be the Kings, though. It isn't too often that a coach comes under a bit of criticism for starting a goalie as talented as Bernier. -
Much better than last season. I still enjoyed last season, but this one is starting off much better. I really like Brother Sam. He is probably one of my favourite guest stars of the entire series so far. I really like his character and Mos Def has done a great job thus far. I'm not a real huge fan of Deb becoming the lieutenant, but I can understand the thought process of using her as a pawn between LaGuerta and Matthews' power struggle. I also think it could prove to be an interesting dynamic if they decide to have season 7 feature Miami Metro tracking Dexter as Deb leading the manhunt against him would be fun to watch, even though we all likely have thought about it before. I also wasn't exactly thrilled with the very early reveal of the antagonists. The reveal of the Ice Truck Killer and The Skinner were two of the better moments of the show and, as I mentioned so long ago in this thread, the mystery element of who the antagonists are was one of my favourite parts of the show in the earlier seasons. It worked in season 4 because Lithgow was so brilliant. Hopefully Hanks and Olmos can make it work. Loved the first episode. The reunion was brilliant. http://www.sportzin.com/forums/uploads/images/1317620465-U12475.gif "I dont even know what hammer time is or how it differs from regular time" That whole sequence nearly had me in tears.

Just wondering, but who are the new posters? I know last CmS didn't post much about hockey and it was iBoldin, Universe, ECN, you, illwill and myself. I haven't really noticed many other people, but I could defintiely be overlooking some guys. In other (old) news, Mark Schiefele was sent back to the Barrie Colts by the Jets on Sunday. Not really surprising as he only had one goal thus far and looked like he needed some more time in the O. Alex Galchenyuk, the number one center for the Sarnia Sting and a projected top 5 pick in the 2012 draft, is getting surgery on his torn ACL and looks to be out for the rest of the season. Terrible news for him since I could easily see this dropping his draft stock from top 5 to the 10-15 range, but it looks like some middle of the pack team is going to get an absolute steal of a pick, assuming he does in fact fall. A team may very well end up with legitimate first line center with a mid first round pick. I realize that guys like Connolly still went high despite missing a significant portion of his draft year, but I think with all the projected talent in this years draft his injury has a much higher chance of dropping his stock. Many people thought it was a ballsy pick from Yzerman by picking Connolly anyways, and last years draft was not nearly as talented as what this years is projected to be. Could you imagine if a team wins the lottery, drafts Yakupov and then Galchenyuk falls to 12-15th or so and the same team trades to get him? Scary. EDIT: While on the subject of prospects, did anybody see Jacob Markstrom for the Panthers yesterday? Absolutely dominated the Habs. They threw everything at him and he shut the door time after time. He made 40 saves on 41 shots. -
I just bought the 2nd one the other day so it will likely be a while before I buy the 3rd one. However, I am not surprised in the least by these excellent reviews. The first Uncharted is probably my favourite game to date and I'm expecting the 2nd to be just as good, if not better.

How the hell do you give up 3 breakaways to the same player? I could understand if Jager had Grabner's speed or something, but the guy is slow as hell and yet you just let him sit behind your defense all game long? Gustavsson stands on his head all game long and the Leafs reward him by a pitiful defensive effort. They hang him out to dry every game, and every game he gets blamed for the loss. Absolutely pathetic. On another note, I think it might be time to break up the KGM line. Demote Mac and Kule to the third line and bump Kadri and Frattin to the 2nd line. Those two were absolutely buzzing tonight, while Mac and Kule have been invisible all season long. Grabo is the only reason why that line gets any scoring chances. I'd even contemplate putting Grabovski with Kessel and Lupul, but I wouldn't want to put all of the offense on one line as it would compltely eliminate all secondary scoring. Oh well, I wasn't expecting a win tonight. It does suck a bit knowing that this was a very winnable game considering how well Gus played, but no point in crying over it.

You really have to feel for Gustavsson. He plays amazing in goal for the Leafs making numerous highlight reel saves and yet it looks like he is going to get another loss on his record because of defensive lapses that he has absolutely no control over. Oh yeah, Komisarek is back to his shitty ways. He got off to a good star this year in the first two or three games, but he is back to being a complete liability. That, along with Schenn's pathetic play, has made this defense, which was supposed to be a strength, as weak as ever.
-
I didn't realize Danny Briere got his 600th career point in the 2nd. Nice little accomplishment for him. Lmao at the fans booing the penalty on Briere, though. Somebody should let them know that you aren't allowed to swing your stick like a baseball bat at a goalies head. (I realize it was unintentional and he was trying to hit the puck, but still, that is about as clear of a penalty as you can get).
-
Jake Gardiner's vision is something else for a rookie defenseman, especially considering he played forward for pretty much his entire childhood. He just made three outstanding passes that lead to 3 very good scoring chances in just one shift. I thought that he should be sent down to the Marlies earlier, but if he continues to play like he has over the past 3 games or so, not only should he stay with the Leafs, he should be playing 20 minutes a night regularly. He still makes some mistakes defensively and some poor turnovers, but he is able to recover very well because of his excellent skating ability. I definitely think that if everything goes well in his development that he may become a top pairing d-man in a few years.
-
Yeah, that was bad. I remember when he took a puck (at least I think it was a puck) to the face in Anaheim and broke his jaw, and his reaction to this play was much, much worse. It definitely makes you think of the worst possible scenario seeing a guy like Pronger react in the way that he did. I don't like the guy as he seems like a giant douche, but you never want to see a guy potentially suffer damage to his eye. http://d.yimg.com/a/p/sp/getty/2a/fullj.a514ffcc46d274de3fcfda3abf001c1f/a514ffcc46d274de3fcfda3abf001c1f-getty-130207289.jpg

Gustavsson played well in the first. You can't blame him for the goal as it was a clear breakaway as Komisarek's lack of foot speed was taken advantage of by Jager of all people. Other than that he made a couple of nice saves and looked a lot better positionally than he did the other night against the Habs. He isn't fighting the puck nearly like he did on Saturday either as he has controlled his rebounds very well. Hopefully he keeps it up in the 2nd and the Leafs can get him an early goal on the PP. I'm not going to hold my breath on that part, though, since they have yet to even gain control of the puck in the Flyers zone on the PP.
-
Wasn't it Schenn that failed to clear the zone and turned it over to Liles? I know the puck deflected off of Walker in front, but I thought it was Schenn who made the giveaway that led to the goal. My stream is very choppy and grainy, though, so I might be wrong. Also, tough luck for Pronger. There was obviously no malicious intent from Grabovski there as it was just unfortunate timing of Pronger arriving just as Grabo followed through on the shot. Pronger looked to be in some considerable pain and that did not look good at all.
