  1. Fedor was actually the one that knocked Werdum to the ground during the stand up exchange. He was just too aggressive with his GNP in an attempt to finish the fight and he left an arm out there for the taking. Being as great at BJJ as Werdum is, he took advantage of it and tried to secure an armbar. While trying to escape the armbar, Fedor got caught in a triangle and that's that. I don't think this loss means much to be perfectly honest. Fedor would beat Werdum 9/10 and this just happened to be that 1 time. It was as much Fedor making a mistake as it was Werdum beating him. If Fedor has a poor showing in his next fight then maybe it is time to be concerned, but I just think this was a simple case of him getting caught, just like what happened with GSP-Serra 1. It is unfortuante, but it is MMA. It is basically impossible to go an entire career without getting caught, regardless of how great of a fighter you are. Give credit to Werdum though. He saw the opening and he took it.
  2. He knocked him down with 2 punches and got caught by one of the best BJJ fighters in all of MMA. I hardly see how that means his days as a good fighter are over. GSP got caught by Matt Serra. Silva got caught by Ryo Chonnan. Prime Cro Cop got caught by Kevin Randleman. Fedor got caught by Fabricio Werdum. It is MMA, people get caught. Even if he is done as a fighter, it took the guy 121 months and 35 fights to finally legitimately lose an MMA fight. Regardless of whether or not he is "done" as a good fighter, he is still the greatest MMA fighter of All-Time. (not saying that you tried to dispute that)
  3. To be honest, I'm not worried about the PG spot right now. Clearly it needs to be addressed for the future, and I would be thrilled if the Raptors were able to deal Calderon this summer, but if they head into the season with a point guard rotation of Jack and Calderon again, I won't be too worried about it. The Raptors aren't going to be contending for anything other than a top 5 pick next season by the looks of things (I mean their starting lineup will probablt consist of 3 players who will play in the Summer League this year, ). If they can come out of next years draft with somebody like Brandon Knight or Kyrie Irving that basically gives them their point guard of the future (assuming they don't get the first pick as Harrison Barnes is the obvious first pick at this point). The way I look at it, the Raptors are officially in the rebuilding mode. Last year they managed to draft their SG of the future, this year they managed to draft their PF of the future as well as a potential sleeper in Alabi and next year I think they will target their PG of the future. It is strange, even though the Raptors are going to lose Bosh and Bargnani is going to be their best player, I'm genuinely excited about the direction of this team for the first time in a very long time. They seem to be moving away from the non-defensive, one dimensional shooters mind set to an athletic and defensive mind set. Even though they are going to suck next year, and suck may even be an understatement, I think I'm going to love watching this team play. For those of you who were wondering who the Raptors would've drafted had Ed Davis not unexpectedly fell to 13, it sounds like Paul George was their main target. From DX's Twitter. They gave the Raptors an A+ for their draft, which I think is a little high, but it is nice to finally see Toronto getting praised for their draft picks rather than ridiculed, like they normally do.
  4. Ok, I am completely shocked that Fowler and Gormley haven't been drafted yet. If you would've told me that one of them would fall I would have a hard enough time believing it, but seeing both of them fall is just shocking. And what the hell were the Rangers thinking? They basically drafted a goon, by the sounds of it, with the 10th pick in the draft when there are two potential elite defenseman on the board. I just can't believe that Fowler and Gormley are still on the board and there is a realistic chance that Dallas won't draft either one of them as well with Turco probably leaving and them having hardly any goaltending depth, I can definitely see them drafting Jack Campbell, so they would fall even more. EDIT: I don't see Fowler falling past the Ducks though.
  5. Looks like it won't go as straight forward as I thought it would with Niederreiter going 5th to the Islanders and Johansen going 4th to Columbus (although it doesn't surprise me that they picked a center and he was the 2nd best one on the board). I didn't think that Gormley and Fowler would fall as far as they have. It looks like one of them might fall to the 10th pick. At one point it looked like Fowler was going to be a lock for the top 3 and now he may fall to 8 or 9.
  6. If the Rangers could get somebody with Connolly's talents at 10 (they are picking 10th right?) it would be a huge steal considering he would probably be an absolute lock for the top 5 if he wasn't injured all year. He probably would've been a top 3 lock is he wasn't hurt. He scored 30 goals in the WHL as a 16 year old (I think he was 16 at least, might've been 17) and that shows some serious talent. You have to wonder how his injury is going to effect him though.
  7. Regardless of whether or not they get picked in the first or second rounds, or even if they ever manage to play in the NHL, it is a pretty big accomplishment to be drafted considering. I went to school for a year with somebody who may be drafted as well. A defenseman named Nick Amies who play for the Cowichan Valley Capitals of the BCHL. He used to play for the Vernon Vipers but he was traded this past season. Like your cousin, if he does get drafted he will be a late, late pick.
  8. Who is your cousin? The first round is starting right now and the rest of the draft is tomorrow I think. Not 100% sure of that, but I think that is usually how it is. I think that Seguin makes more sense for the Oilers and I actually think that Seguin is going to be the better player. Not only does he play a more valuable position (center) instead of Hall being a winger, but the Oilers already have Jordan Eberle, Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson, Ales Hemsky and talented wingers like that so getting a center with the skills that Seguin has would be the best choice in my mind. I just think that Hall will go first because he has so much more hype around him and is the more marketable player. I didn't watch that "Oil Change" documentary that was on TSN last night, so I could be wrong.
  9. I guess this could've went in the offseason thread that is already on here, but I figured the draft is a big enough deal that it should have its own thread, even if there are only a handful of hockey fans on here (and I hardly even talk about hockey on here). Like the NBA Draft last night, I think it is safe to say that the top 7 or 8 will be fairly straight forward. Hall will be going number 1 and Seguin will be going number 2. After that it will probably be Gundrandson going 3rd, Brett Connolly, Cam Fowler and Brandon Gormley will be the next 3 picks (not in this order), although Connolly may fall due to concerns about his health and Ryan Johansen may jump into that top 6 group. Then rest I imagine that Nino Niederriter, Jack Campbell and Brumistrov will probably round out the top 10, although Brumistrov may fall due to the fear of drafting Russians. After that though, this draft is up in the air, at least from what I know, which isn't too much considering I focused on the NBA Draft as the Raptors had a lotter pick and the Leafs don't have a pick in the top 60 this year.
  10. He isn't going to play in the Summer League this year. He mentioned that a couple of weeks ago. To be honest, I'd rather Amir not play anyways. We basically already know what he is going to bring to the team and already know the kind of player that he is. I'd rather see Davis, Alabi and even Joey Dorsey get the majority of the minutes at the 4 and 5 simply because they are more unknown than Amir is. I wouldn't have any problems if he changed his mind and decided to play, but I'm really more interested in watching Davis and Alabi play and the improvements that DeRozan and Weems have made since the season ended.
  11. Future 2nd round pick and cash. I've yet to hear how much cash they sent to Dallas though, but I would guess around a million or so considering the Raptors basically refused to pay 2 million for a pick in the 2nd round. Regardless, if this is true and the reason Alabi dropped from mid to late first round and all it cost them was a future 2nd and cash, I think it is a pretty damn good deal. This draft didn't have the star power that we have seen in the past, but it was pretty deep. Next years class is supposed to have some star power but not as much depth as this one had. Anyways, a 2nd round pick is almost always a crapshoot anyways. If you can get a guy who was expected to go in the first round of a fairly deep draft for a future 2nd round pick, you might as well do it. The cash is not even a factor considering MLSE is one of the richest ownership groups in the NBA. I'm not normally a fan of Colangelo, but I don't think you can complain about this trade to get Alabi, even if he becomes a bust (is it even possible for the 50th overall pick to be a bust?)
  12. It will probably be top 20 protected for a year or two, then it will be lottery protected for at least 3 years, then go down to top 10 protected for a year, then top 5 for a year and then unprotected in like 2017 or something. I would imagine it would be like the Knicks pick that Utah received this year. Wasn't the original transaction involving that pick made in 2004 or 2003? If the Clippers continue to build their team the way that they have been lately, I don't think they will be making picks in the top 8 every year. They have a nice core of young players right now and will be adding two lottery picks to their roster next season (or do they get the T'Wolves unprotected pick in 2012?). Then again, it is the Clippers and so much can happen from now until the point in time when that draft pick becomes unprotected. The Clippers could be the worst team in the league again by that point in time, or they could be contending for a top 5 seed in the West. It is literally impossible to tell. Considering it is the Clippers though, you have to think OKC made the right choice. Odds are they will get a pretty good pick out of this, haha.
  13. From Johnothan Givony's (DraftExpress) Twitter account. All this does is make him even more of an intimidating post presence. Not only is he a 7'2 (or whatever) shotblocker with a huge wingspan, he has diseases as well. I'm obviously joking abuot that. On a serious note though, I don't claim to be a Hepatits expert or anything, but isn't Hep C the one that you should be worried about and Hep B isn't really that big of a deal at all? Isn't Hep B controlable by medication and can even go away on its own? Even if it is chronic and stays with you forever, isn't it doormant a lot of the time? Again, I don't claim to know much of anything about Hepatitis, but I always thought that Hep B wasn't that big of a deal? It is Hep C that you need to worry about. Regardless, if the Raptors got a top 25 talent in this draft at 50 (well, traded for him) because GM's were scared off from him supposedly having Hep B, I'll take it.
  14. Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely thrilled with how the draft turned out. I think I might've still been in a bit of shock when I made that post because never in a million years did I expect to see the Raptors draft Davis or see Alabi picked at 50 and the Raptors getting him. In regards to Alabi, I just don't see how you could pass him up that late in a draft. From what I have read, Alabi fell because of concerns about a knee operation that he had and was considered to be a top 25 pick prior to the draft. If you can come away with a guy of his size and ability at 50, even if he is a bust, I think that is a chance you have to take. Yeah, those are very legitimate concerns about Bradley and I'm not exactly "disapointed" (I just couldn't think of a better word to use at the time) that they weren't able to get him because they got a player who was a consensous top 8 or 9 pick in the class and was clearly the BPA, which is really all that I wanted from this draft. I was just shocked because I never expected Davis to fall and I expected Bradley to be the Raptors pick, so I exagerated everything good about his game and downplayed all of his weaknesses to convince myself that he would be the next Russell Westbrook when there is a good chance he is just that defensive combo guard who can knock down shots off of the bench. After waking up this morning I'm really not all that worried about the Raps not coming away with Bradley considering not only was Davis the obvious BPA, he also fills the Raptors biggest need. When that happens, you can't complain about it. Correct me if I am wrong, but before the season started, wasn't Davis considered to be a top 5 pick and only saw his stock drop after UNC struggled and he broke his wrist? Oh yeah, you can't complain about the Raptors drafting a Tar Heel either. It worked out for them pretty well last year. EDIT: Last time, not last year, haha.
  15. It seems like Patrick O'Bryant didn't take too kindly to Bilas ripping him on the air. I'm going to miss POB when he is gone from Toronto. He was great at keeping the bench warm and every now and then he has an absolute gem of a comment to the media or on his Twitter page.
  16. What were your guys reactions when Davis was announced as the pick? I wasn't completely shocked because of the fact that he was sliding and he makes perfect sense for Toronto, but when they officially announced that Davis was the pick, I actually just sat there and stared at the TV for about 5 seconds before thinking anything. It just seemed to weird that we spent all of this time discussing Aldrich, Bradley, Patterson and George and the name Ed Davis didn't even come up once, yet we come away with Davis, who's name was never even mentioned with the Raptors. I haven't seen Davis play so I can't comment too much on him, but I love the pick. Not only does he give up a young replacement for Bosh, it would also greatly cushion the blow if Amir were to leave in free agency. He sounds pretty excited about coming to Toronto as well, which is nice to hear. Obviously he isn't going to blast Toronto on Twitter or anything like that, but his body language was promising when he was picked and he sounded legitimately excited when I watched his interview. I must admit that I am a bit disapointed that the Raptors weren't able to get Bradley somehow. I really wanted to see him with the Raptors next season. To make matters worse, he had to be picked by Boston of all teasm.
  17. I tried to actually think about trades when making my mock. I just had a feeling that the Thunder would get Aldrich, but I thought it would be the Raptors that they would trade with in order to get him, which is why I had the Raptors picking him and the Thunder drafting Bradley at 18 and Alabi at 21. I knew that the Raptors liked both of these two and figured that they made enough sense for the Thunder to take even if they changed their minds on a potential deal. The same thing can be said for Aldrich as well. That planning didn't really pay off too much though, as I would've had Bradley going to Boston and Bledsoe being picked 18th, which would've earned me another 2 points, if I didn't try to predict a trade. That is what makes this fun though. You have to consider possible trades that will happen and make your mock accordingly.
  18. Not really. Considering that they were sitting in 5th place in the East and looked like they may give Boston a run for the Atlantic Division crown at the trade deadline, it wouldn't really make much sense for them to trade him. Nobody expected the monumental collapse down the stretch that resulted in missing the playoffs. Even then, Bosh will leave in a sign and trade anyways so it's not like the Raptors are going to be left with nothing. I'm sure they won't get the same kind of return that they may have gotten during the season, but at least they will be getting something in return for him.
  19. Am I the only one that is really excited for the Summer League this year (that shoulds strange)? The Raptors are going to have Sonny Weems and DeMar DeRozan on the wings and Ed Davis and Solomon Alabi down low. Joey Dorsey will be coming off of the bench as well. I know it sounds strange to say, but I am actually really looking forward to the Summer League this year. Should be fun seeing what kinds of improvements DeRozan and Weems have made and seeing what Davis and Alabi look like. I'll admit to having never watched Davis play before, so I'm looking forward to see him in action. At the very least, I'm sure you can expect some highlight reel dunks and blocks. EDIT: Here is the roster, at least so far, and the Raps SL schedule. Toronto Raptors Summer League Roster PG - Curtis Stinson, Dee Brown SG - Sonny Weems, David Kool SF - DeMar DeRozan, Ronald Dupree PF - Ed Davis, Joey Dorsey C - Solomon Alabi Coach - Toronto Raptors Summer League Schedule 7/10 vs Phoenix 7/13 vs Houston 7/14 vs New York 7/16 vs Sacramento 7/17 vs New Orleans http://www.ridiculousupside.com/2010/6/28/1540775/nba-summer-league-rosters-vegas
  20. You do realize that Real Deal basically had just as many of the same picks as Ford did as I did, right? The top 10 was basically a consensous from everybody involved. George to Memphis was picked by the majority of people as well. James to Chicago/Washington was picked by basically everybody. Alabi to OKC at 21 and Whiteside to ATL at 24 was a popular pick. It was widely known that Sanders was going to Milwaukee and that the Wolves were looking for wing players, hence the choice for Babbitt. Nobody thought that Seraphin would go 17 and it made sense for the Thunder to stash a big man overseas, which they ended up doing with Pleiss. It was speculated that Hobson had received a promise from somebody with a late 1st, and Orlando made the most sense. James Anderson to San Antonio just made too much sense considering he was clearly the BPA. Portland is probably losing Pryzbilla and Oden is injury prone, so it only made sense for them to look for an insurance big man. I don't deny that I used other mocks like Ford's, DX's and sites like that, but if anybody tries to come in and act like they didn't do this as well, they are kidding theirselves. Nobody on here is connected so when they see picks that the have absolutely no idea about (like late 1st's) they will naturally drift to people with sources. To be perfectly honest, I didn't even realize how many of my picks were the same as Ford until you mentioned it as I made my own choices on the picks I was sure about and then used Ford and DX for help on ones that I had absolutely no idea about, which was about 6 or 7 picks.
  21. What exactly should Toronto be afraid of? It's not like Raptor fans actually thought that Bosh was going to re-sign with the team or anything. We have been well aware that Bosh wouldn't be back for months now.
  22. I love what the Magic did getting Orton and Robinson with the 2nd last picks in the 1st and 2nd rounds respectively. Both of aren't ready to contribute immediately, but with Orlando's depth, they can allow both of them to sit on the bench and hope that they develop and reach their potential. Orton was a projected lottery pick at one point and Robinson is one of the most athletic players in this class and was projected as a late first at one point as well. These two aren't going to do much immediately, but I think down the line both of them could easily end up as steals considering where they were drafted.
  23. Is it safe to say that the draft was the final nail in the coffin of Chris Bosh's career in Toronto? The Raptors drafted Ed Davis at 13 who has been compared to Bosh in the past, then they traded for Solomon Alabi and with them expressing their interest in re-signing Amir Johnson it seems like the Raptors are stockpiling bigs to compensate for the inevitable loss of Chris Bosh. I think everybody figured that Bosh would be gone this summer anyways, but I think any possibility of him staying in Toronto has basically been put to rest with the Raptors draft.
