Only the Raptors can make George Hill and Matt Bonner look like All-Stars. I'm really getting sick of seing scrubs light the Raptors up. First JJ Redick goes off for a career high and now Matt Bonner is breaking down the Raps "D" off of the dribble? Jesus christ. I know that I should be upset as a Raptors fan, but honestly, I am trying hard not to laugh about this. I mean how the [expletive] do the Spurs, minus Parker and Duncan, drop 123 points and counting on you? [expletive]ing Wright. I hate this guy. Why the hell is he even in the game? The Raptors need offense so Triano inserts Wright into the game and takes out Belinelli? Brilliant coaching. Good god this team is frusturating to watch. -

Raptors defense is just pathetic. They just might be the worst rotating team I have ever seen. Once you beat the initial defender, you basically have a clear lane to the basket. Its almost comical how bad they are defensively. -

- Chris Bosh has looked great yet again. Foul trouble as limited his effectiveness and kept him off of the floor, but when he has been on the court he has been his usual self. He has been attacking the rim at every opportunity and drawing contact. He has around 10 FT attempts already and has been great again. I am absolutely loving the way that he is playing so far this year. - Bargnani has been getting ignored too much on offense. He was feeling it for a while there but the Raptors didn't feed his hot hand, yet again. When Belinelli came into the game though, the two Italians showed great chemistry and were looking to feed each other. I have liked Bargs willingness to post up on the smaller lineups that the Spurs are running. - Antoine Wright is just terrible on the offensive end. I understand that he is the best perimeter defender on the floor and all, but man does he every make terrible decisions on the offensive end of the floor. I really wish that he would realize that his role on offense it to swing the ball and keep it moving. It sounds weird saying this but he should take lessons from DeRozan on what to do offensively. DeRozan, for the most part, does a great job of playing his role. He doesn't force things very often, only takes shots when he is open and gets the ball into the hands of the more talented offensive players. Wright should do the same. - Blair has looked very good. I absolutely love his hustle and tenacity on the boards. A lot of teams must be kicking theirselves for passing on him. Love the energy that he brings off of the bench. - In all honesty, Toronto should be up big so far. They have defintiely outplayed the Spurs but because of fouls, rebounding and bench play, the Raptors are tied with them. They need to go for the throat in the 3rd and not allow the Spurs to hang around because that will bite them in the [expletive]. -

Somebody needs to tell Wright that he can't do anything on offense. Stick to shooting wide open jump shots and stop trying to create off of the bounce. Just stick to playing defense and taking shots in the flow of the offense please. -

What about without Parker and Duncan? Apperantly TD isn't playing tonight either, at least according to Eric Smith's (a Raptors broadcaster) Twitter. If this is in fact true and the Spurs are without both Duncan and Parker, this game just suddenly became a very winnable game for the Raptors. I am not going to come out and say that they are going to win because the Raptors are such a tough team to predict. When their shots are falling, they can play with anybody. When their shots aren't falling they can lose to anybody. A perfect example of this is the first two games of this road trip. Against the Hornets they shot the lights out and won by double digits, but against the Mavericks their shots weren't falling and they got blown out by almost 30. Bosh and Bargnani should both have big games tonight if Duncan isn't playing. McDyess, Bonner and Blair definitely won't be able to handle these two, especially with the way that Bosh has been playing so far this year. On the flip side, I expect both Jefferson and Ginobili to have big games as well. I can see this game coming down to which duo performs better, Bosh and Bargnani or Jefferson and Ginobili? -
Chris Bosh is usually an excellent free throw shooter. The past two seasons he was a 84% and 82% FT shooter respectively. However, so far this year he's averaging 74%. Do you think that this is something to worry about or is it just a case of Bosh going through a bit of a slump from the line and sooner or later will revert back to the 80%+ free throw shooter that he usually is? With the amount of times that Bosh has been getting to the line so far this season, if he managed so revert back to his 80% form from the stripe he could add a fair amount of points to his ppg average. Also, what do you think is the reason for Bosh's slow start (percentage wise) from the stripe this season?

Vince Carter: Should He Be Honoured?
Built Ford Tough replied to Built Ford Tough's topic in Toronto Raptors Team Forum
That is why I think that it would be much better if they waited until the 20th anniversary. As long as Carter is still in the league I just don't know if the Raptors fans would not boo the hell out of him every time he comes to the ACC. Maybe if they do it after he has retired the fans would finaly let it all go and just appreciate what he did for the franchise and not look at him as the "enemy" anymore? This is an interesting situation though. -
http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/62639/20091108/sixers_cant_find_taker_for_dalembert/ Does this really surprise anybody? I mean I don't really think that too many teams around the league would be willing to take on a player like Dalembert for the money that he is owed, especially with concerns about a falling salary cap. Just to create some discussion though, what teams do you see having some interest in Dalembert and what do you think would be a fair deal?

http://blog.rogersbroadcasting.com/ericsmith/2009/11/04/defence-prince-moustaches-and-more/ He makes some very good points. This is an older interview as, like the quote says, it was after the Raptors loss to the Magic, but a lot of the same issues are still plauging the Raptors. I definitely suggest that you listen to this short (6:20) interview and listen to what Chiesa has to say about the Raptors defense. *Link added*

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/orlando-magic/orl-sportsmagic-notes-02110209nov02,0,6125950.story What do you guys think? Should the Raptors honour Vince prior to the November 22nd game or not? If yes, then why? If no, then why? Personally, I do agree that he should be honoured for all of the things that he did for this frachise, but I would not do it just yet. I would wait another 5 years and do it during the Raptors 20th anniversary season. Carter is the most influential Raptor ever and I think that doing it right now would be too soon. If we wait another 5 years Carter will probably have retired by then (I think he will have, but it is not a gurantee) and maybe the hate will wear off if he is no longer playing. Have a huge tribute for Vince Carter and let bygones be bygones. Although it would be pretty fitting celebrating the Raptors 15th season by honouring the most famous number 15 in their franchises history. Also, one last thing, do you think that Carter will accept this and want to go through with it? Explain why or why not.

Is JJ Hickson starting the answer?
Built Ford Tough replied to Cleveland's Finest's topic in Cleveland Cavaliers Team Forum
How often does KG actually go and work in the low post? He is a high post/mid range jump shooter on offense for the most part. Even when he does go down into the post and work from there, more often then not, he will use finesse moves over power moves. His post game consists mainly of his unstoppable turn around. Its not like he is just going to back you down and try to over power you down there. He is not that kind of player. I honestly think that LeBron would be able to outpower KG in the post, or at least match him. Garnett is not a low post banger at all. Bad example there. I am all for the idea of starting LeBron at the four. When West comes back (is he back yet? I haven't followed the Cavs at all this year) throw out a lineup of Williams/West/Parker/James/Shaq to start the game. It would create all sorts of mismatches for the Cavs on offense, space the floor for Shaq down low and it would space the floor more for James as well. Defensively there really aren't many power forwards in the game today that I would be worried about LeBron guarding. He has the size, strength and athleticism to match up with 90% of the leagues power forwards if you ask me. Even if James is overmatched one night on defense, the mismatch that he would have on the offensive end of the floor would be twice as bad. Once you take Shaq out of the game put in the more traditional lineup with James at the 3 and Varejao and Ilgauskas at the 4 and 5 respectively. I would at least give this lineup a try. If it doesn't work out, no harm done really. If it does work out it could potentially give the Cavs the offensive spark that they need. It is a low risk-high reward move in my opinion. -
Celtics All-Time Starting Five
Built Ford Tough replied to Real Deal's topic in Boston Celtics Team Forum
I definitely agree that Garnett is the better player than McHale was, but as a Celtic Garnett can't even touch McHale. Can anybody even argue that this 5 should be any different than what RD posted? Maybe you can make the argument for Pierce over Hondo (which I absolutely disagree with by the way) but that is really about it. -
Raptors All-Time Starting Five
Built Ford Tough replied to Real Deal's topic in Toronto Raptors Team Forum
Pretty much the same as yours. Although, as much as it pains me to say it, you can make an argument for Calderon being the point guard with him being the Raptors all time leader in assists. Personally, I wouldn't put him ahead of Stoudamire because of the fact that Calderon simply is not the better player than Damon when they were both playing for the Raptors. I can see the argument though. But yeah, my team is the exact same as yours. -
The thing about Oden that a lot of people seem to forget is that he is still only 21 years old and is really only in his second NBA season. Add in the fact that big men take longer to develop than guards (obviously there are some exceptions to this) and I still have faith that Oden will be able to become more than just a defensive anchor. I am going to withold judgement on him until his rooke contract is finished because players like Oden can either come into the league and dominate right away, or they can take time to develop. Oden showed in college that he can be a force both offensively and defensively. When he is confident in his offense hs is better than what he has shown so far in his NBA career. He just needs more time to get used to the faster pace, more athletic players and tougher defense. This in turn will lead to him being more confident in himself and his abilities. That microfracture surgery really hurt his development and I think hurt him mentally as well. Then you also have to take into consideration what Dr. Feelgood said about the Blazers not needing Oden to be an offensive player. With players like Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge, Travis Outlaw, Martell Webster, Rudy Fernandez and Andre Miller, Oden is more often than not the 5th option on the floor. This can be good for his development because the Blazers have the luxury of not having to put much pressure on him offensively and are able to bring him along slowly. The foul trouble is an issue that I am sure he will figure out. A lot of defensive big men like Oden experienced foul difficulties when they first came into the league but as they gained more experience and discipline, they were able to rectify it. I still have faith that Oden will become a top tier center in the NBA. I admit that I am bias as I was a huge fan of Oden's since reading about what he accomplished in high school and was literally pissed off that Stern implemented the age limit rule when he did as it didn't allow the Raptors to draft him (I imagine he would've entered the 06 draft and would've been the consensous number 1 pick). I think that you just have to be patient with him and reserve judgement for at least another couple of years.

http://i34.tinypic.com/168yjr4.gif Fedor is just amazing. He gets his nose busted up literally seconds into the fight and has blood pouring out of it for the entire first round, yet he still managed to almost get 2 or 3 subs on Rogers, rock him with a looping right and then eventually finish him with that highlight reel KO in the 2nd round. It is like he is fighting in slow motion. He always seems to be one step ahead of everybody that he fights. He had Rogers timing down pat and just beat him to the punch. Fedor is simply amazing. I'm too lazy to type anything about the other fights right now. I'll probably try and post something tomorrow if I remember.

Jose Calderon silences critics
Built Ford Tough replied to headliner's topic in Toronto Raptors Team Forum
Exactly. I don't think that anybody that watches Jose Calderon thought that he wouldn't get his shot back or start playing solid offensively. Calderon is one of the better shooting point guards in the NBA and is a good offensive guard as well and it was just a matter of time before he bounced back. As a Jose Calderon critic he won't silence me until he manages to not be a complete liability on the defensive floor. I know that he will never become a good defender, or even an average defender, because he simply lacks the laterall quickness, general defensive awareness and defensive instincts, but people will harp on him until he manages to find a way to at least contribute defensively. Even Steve Nash, who is a slightly better man to man defender than Calderon, chips in every now and then with a steal or a drawn charge. This is what I want to see Jose do because obviously he won't be stopping anybody. One thing though RD, even when Calderon puts in energy and effort into his defense, he is still terrible. I honestly don't think that effort or energy has ever been a problem with Calderon defensively, he just simply doesn't have any sort of defensive skills, like you touched upon. -
It seems like everytime the Raptors play the Mavs in Dallas they are able to keep the game close until halftime, but once the 3rd quarter starts Dirk just goes nuts and decides to completely take over the game and led the Mavs to a double digit lead. He has 11 points in the 3rd and the Mavs have increased their half time lead of 7 to 17.
-
"Dallas has won nine straight at home against Toronto by an average of 11.8 points since the Raptors’ 109-104 win Dec. 30, 1999." Toronto played very well last night but I think that this game might get out of hand. Dallas are fresh while Toronto are on the tail end of a back-to-back. The Raps have always struggled in Dallas as well.

Toronto @ New Orleans
Built Ford Tough replied to alcstarheel's topic in New Orleans Pelicans Team Forum
I do have to admit that Calderon has looked A LOT better tonight, well, offensively. His defense is still terrible but he has looked good offensively. His jumper has been falling, he has been making good passes by giving his teammates the ball in a position where they can do something with it and is looking more like the efficient Calderon of last season. He is playing with the fire that he showed last season and that fire was missing during the first 4 games. If Calderon plays like this I won't bag on him (well, as much) because this is how I expect him to play. I don't expect him to be locking anybody down as I know that he is a terrible defender and that won't change, but the Raptors need his offense. Raptors with a huge 3rd quareter shooting the rock. I don't know how many 3's they have hit for sure but Bargnani, Turkoglu and Calderon have done a great job shooting from deep. Even Chris Bosh is getting into the act as he drained a 3 right in Okafor's face earlier in the quarter. New Orleans has not looked good at all. I am starting to wonder how short of a leash Byron Scott is on because this Hornets team has looked terrible and are nothing like the team that was within one game of the Western Conference Finals two years ago. Raptors up 83-65 at the end of the 3rd. EDIT: The Raptors were 8/13 from deep in that quarter . -

Lol, Chris Paul has 17/10/5 on 6/8 shooting in 18 minutes. Perimeter players must love playing the Raptors because they know that they can just absolutely light it up. EDIT: Make that another assist. -

So Calderon is going to break out of his 4 year defensive slump against the best point guard in the NBA? Right.... -
Toronto @ New Orleans
Built Ford Tough replied to alcstarheel's topic in New Orleans Pelicans Team Forum
This game has a lot of interesting matchups though. You have the big matchups of Bosh and Bargnani vs. Okafor and West. Then you have the tall, white, jumpshooting European matchup of Hedo "Turkey-glue" Turkoglu vs. Peja "Brokeback" Stojakovic. You have the unproven, athletic swingmen matchup of Julian Wright vs. DeMar DeRozan. Lastly, you have the massacare waiting to happen matchup of Chris Paul vs. Jose Calderon (defensively at least). Should be fun to see. I'm especially looking forward to seeing the battle of the European jumpshooters. It is going to be one fast paced, high octane matchup of these two speedsters. Seriously though, these two teams have some very interesting matchups. Many people will probably consider the key matchup to be the battle of the point guards, but I think that whichever team gets the better of the big man matchup will walk away with the victory. -

Reggie Evans Still A Couple Weeks Away
Built Ford Tough posted a topic in Toronto Raptors Team Forum
http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/player_main.aspx?sport=NBa&id=912 Just thought that I would post this update on Evans. Whenever he is ready to go I will welcome his rebounding and hustle to the lineup with open arms. His rebounding and tenacity will be a great fit with Bosh and Barngnai. As a side note, god bless the soul that drafted Reggie Evans in a fantasty league. -
I said his defense is arguably as bad as it was last season. I didn't say that it was worse than it was last season, I said that you can argue that it may be. That isn't overreacting, that is the truth. I have no doubts that Calderson will eventually find his shot and get going offensively, but that doesn't change my stance on his horrid defense. I understand the hamstring injury, but I am really getting sick of hearing this excuse for Calderon. For the last year whenever I mention Jose's matador defense somebody will bring up his hamstring almost instantly. It is really getting tiresome hearing about the hamstring injury.
