Mavericks owner Mark Cuban did a live chat with fans for the Dallas Morning News on Tuesday. Cuban touched on a wide range of topics, from re-signing Jason Kidd, the team's depth behind their starters, the ability to deal some of their extra players and the acquisition of Shawn Marion. One fan pointed out that Marion's production appears to have decreased in recent years. "We don't think Shawn's production has declined at all. He went from a run-and-gun team with a push-it-up point guard, to walk-it-up teams that played in the half court," Cuban responded. "Even with that the case, and plays still not being run for him, he still managed to have a big impact on the game on both sides of the ball. "Just as importantly, Shawn hears and reads everything saying he struggled. He wants to prove everyone wrong, which i think is a beautiful thing." http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/61598/20090915/cuban_discusses_marion_acquisition/

The Mavericks are openly looking to complete a two-for-one trade before training camp. Dallas will open training camp on Sept. 28 and dealing a pair of players for just one in return would relieve the team's roster logjam. Nathan Jawai and Shawne Williams are among those being made available, a source told ESPN. http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/61584/20090914/source_mavs_looking_to_make_2_for_1_trade/

http://www.star-telegram.com/287/story/1613752.html Duncanville native and former Utah Jazz center Greg Ostertag said Monday that he would love to make an NBA comeback after three seasons in retirement and Dallas is his dream destination. The Mavericks’ obvious hole on the roster? A backup center to Erick Dampier. "Everyone knows how bad I’ve wanted to play in Dallas," Ostertag said. "I grew up there. They were my favorite team growing up. I’d play there in a second. "My goals are to get on a team and give them good, quality minutes, whether it’s 10, 15, 20 or whatever. They know what I can do. I’m not asking for the ball. That’s not my job. I’m there to take up space, block shots, get boards and foul when necessary. "The thought of coming to Dallas is a dream. That would be the ultimate way to end my career."

Mavericks forward Tim Thomas injured his knee while playing in a pick-up game recently. The Dallas Morning News reports that the team is aware of the injury, but team doctors haven't looked at Thomas yet. The injury is believed to be at least a sprain and could involve some cartilage damage. http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/61589/20090915/tim_thomas_injures_knee_in_pick_up_game/ also apparently, we waived greg buckner (which was stupid of us)

Brian Urlacher appears to be out for the season after dislocating his right wrist, the linebacker said Monday. The team has not given the official word, but Lovie Smith is expected to address the issue during his afternoon press conference. Urlacher injured his wrist in the first quarter of Sunday's 21-15 loss to the Packers. He was ruled out after halftime. When asked about his status Monday, Urlacher said in a text message that his ``season is over.'' He was scheduled to undergo surgery Monday morning upon the team's arrival back in Chicago from Green Bay http://football.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/13670/20090914/urlacher_likely_done_for_2009/

Singleton Will Accept Mavs' Qualifying Offer
MainEv3nt posted a topic in Dallas Mavericks Team Forum
Dallas is set to retain the services of James Singleton, who is expected to accept their qualifying offer and sign his contract Monday or Tuesday, a pair of NBA sources said. Singleton had been weighing his options since receiving the Mavericks' qualifying offer, which is for $1.09 million. The league minimum for a player entering his fourth season is $884,000. http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/61577/20090914/singleton_will_accept_mavs_qualifying_offer/ -

http://static.nfl.com/static/content/catch_all/nfl_image/d_hixon_081103_QT.jpg Last meeting Eli Manning threw for 305 yards and a touchdown as the Giants trounced the host Redskins, 23-7, in Week 13 of last season. Streaks The Giants have won seven of the past 10 meetings and own a commanding 87-61-4 overall series lead. The teams have split their two playoff contests. Keep your eye on ... New York's receiving corps: With long-time starters Plaxico Burress and Amani Toomer no longer in the mix, it is up to the Giants young wideouts to step up. Steve Smith and Domenik Hixon will be the starters, but look for rookie Hakeem Nicks to play a big role too. He was outstanding in the preseason. Albert Haynesworth's impact: The Redskins already had a formidable defensive unit (fourth overall last season), but they lacked the playmakers to cause a lot of turnovers. Enter Haynesworth. Washington lavished the richest contract ever given to a defensive player on him in the offseason and he is expected to help the defense record more sacks and get more takeaways. Jason Campbell's decision making: Campbell nearly lost his job in the offseason as the team flirted with trading for Jay Cutler and drafting Mark Sanchez. Though he wound up keeping his spot, the pressure is clearly on him to show he has a better understanding of the offense and can help the team produce more points. Did you know? Redskins RB Clinton Portis tied for the NFL lead with 86 first downs last year. ... Washington CB DeAngelo Hall has an interception in three straight games against the Giants. ... New York TE Kevin Boss led the team in six touchdown catches last year. --------------------------- haynesworth said hes not scared of jacobs!
