Can the Nets make the playoffs?

I would say that they dont have a shot. But with them trading for Deron Williams they may do it this year. But a better chance next year -
Magic center Dwight Howard said he is annoyed by the recent talk about his contract and the possibility he would leave Orlando when he becomes a free agent. Howard expounded on some recent Twitter comments Tuesday morning at the Magic's practice before Tuesday night's game against the Los Angeles Clippers. He said his situation should not be compared to what happened with Miami's LeBron James or what is going on with Denver's Carmelo Anthony because they "have nothing to do with Dwight Howard." Howard said he's "really tired of" the contract talk and that he wants "to help this franchise win a championship." Howard's current contract runs through the 2012-13 season, but he could utilize an early termination option and become a free agent after next season. "Yeah, I am annoyed," Howard said. "I can't sign a contract this year. I can't sign anywhere this summer, so why keep bringing it up? Why are people talking about me going any other place right now? Right now is about this season. It's not about L.A., New York or whatever. I'm really tired of it. I don't wanna be talking about where I'm gonna be playing basketball next or people in Orlando asking me 'Are you going to leave us?"' Magic fan Mike Philpot sent Howard this message via Twitter on Monday afternoon: "D12 be different. Stay in Orlando. You can own this city. See Jordan and Tim Duncan for examples." Howard responded with: "I never said I wanted to leave stop reading the rumors. It's really stupid. And annoying to be honest. They tryna make something outta nothing I have another yr under my contract before I can sign." On Tuesday, when asked about the Twitter exchange, Howard expressed even more discontent about recent reports that have surfaced in the past few weeks about his future. There have been reports that Howard is flirting with the idea of going to larger markets like New York or Los Angeles should Orlando not win an NBA title. "I never said anything about leaving," Howard said. "I never said anything about me not being happy here or me 'pulling a LeBron' like people say on Twitter. But I'm just really tired of it. I want to help this franchise win a championship." Howard also doesn't want to be compared to how James handled his departure from Cleveland or what is happening with Anthony in Denver. "That's Carmelo and LeBron," Howard said. "That has nothing to do with Dwight Howard. I'm focused on this season. This is the moment right here. When we get down the road to 2012 or whenever when it's time to sign, then we can talk about that stuff. But as for now, I don't wanna be talking about it. There's no need to bring up what's gonna happen in the future. "We can't go to the future right now anyway." Magic President of Basketball Operations Otis Smith said in published reports earlier this year that he planned to offer Howard a contract this summer. But while Howard was direct about his disdain over the speculation around him Tuesday, he has yet to deflect the rumors by saying that he would re-sign with the Magic. For now, though, Howard said he isn't thinking about the future - whatever it may hold. "No. I think about tonight's game and what we have to do to win a championship," he said. "That's the only thing on my mind." Source:SI.com

Giddy Green Bay Packers fans poured into the frigid Lambeau Field parking lots early Tuesday to fire up their grills and throw down beers in a final tailgate to cap a magical season that ended in Super Bowl victory. At $5 each, the 50,000 tickets for Tuesday's "Return to Titletown" celebration at the stadium sold out in a matter of hours Monday, and they were going for as much as $140 each on the ticket resale site StubHub on Tuesday. The team said a portion of the proceeds will go to charity. Don Jobe, 24, of Appleton, and three of his friends were in the Lambeau parking lot by 9:45 a.m., braving 3-degree temperatures and a negative 14-degree wind chill to tailgate. "That's what true Packer fans do," Jobe said as he struggled in the cold to light the group's grill. "You only win the Super Bowl so often." Jobe's friend, 21-year-old Stephanie Tipler, said the group wanted to get to Lambeau by 7 a.m., but that she talked them into holding off until 9 a.m. Packed in the group's trunk were brats, beer and cupcakes. "Typical Wisconsin cuisine," Tipler said. The Green Bay area, which is the smallest market with an NFL team, has been in the throes of a nonstop party since the Packers beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-25 on Sunday in Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Thousands of flooded downtown Green Bay streets after Sunday's win to celebrate under a green and gold fireworks display. And on Monday, schools let out early and businesses closed so that fans young and old could pack city sidewalks to cheer the team's returning motorcade. Tuesday's cold didn't bother Ken Hampp, 23, of Appleton, as he sipped a Budweiser. "The weather's fine. I can barely feel it," he said. "That's my favorite thing about winter. You can just stick your beer in the snow." By 11:30 a.m. fans were pouring into the parking lot. Some hovered in the players' parking area, hoping for an autograph. But many others fired up their grills, cranked their car stereos and threw the football around. Steven Hass, 17, of Rome, Wisconsin, said he and his family began the three-hour drive to Lambeau Field at 7 a.m. He was gloveless and his fingers had turned bright pink, but he didn't care. "The Packers won the Super Bowl. It doesn't come along very often. When it does, you've got to have fun," he said. His father, Dennis Hass, 54, said the family brought brats and burgers, but told a reporter that wasn't worth writing down because "It's all you're going to hear all day." Source: ESPN

Green Bay Packers players reported to their team meeting Saturday evening prepared for some final words before turning in for their last night preceding Super Bowl XLV. They got a speech from Dr. Kevin Elko, a motivational guru, and then a surprise. Coach Mike McCarthy had each player and coach fitted for a Super Bowl championship ring, a highly unusual move in a sport full of superstition and "one day at a time" mentality. It was the culmination of a late-season dose of Pittsburgh-style bravado McCarthy brought to the Packers over the past two months. "No disrespect to the [Pittsburgh] Steelers," McCarthy said after the Packers' 31-25 victory in Super Bowl XLV. "We respect their football team. We respect the way they play. They're a good tough physical football team. But we fully expected to win this game. This is our time. We talked about it the first day we watched film [two weeks ago]. You could see the confidence building during the week." "So that's pretty unusual, huh?" linebacker A.J. Hawk said. "Well, I liked it. It made things real for us." According to center Scott Wells, the ploy fit McCarthy's week-long theme. "We're a confident bunch and we knew we had a tough challenge," Wells said. "But the message all week has been about us. It wasn't about them. We knew if we played our game well, we would win this game." Some players spent longer than others, imagining what it would be like to slip on the ring. "It was the night before the game," linebacker Desmond Bishop said. "And we could see that it was right there. Everything we wanted was right there in our hands, literally and figuratively."
