Despite discussing a contract extension with Carmelo Anthony, sources close to the situation indicate the Nuggets would rather trade him than risk losing him in free agency for nothing. The Nuggets are attempting to be proactive by securing Anthony to an extension this summer. He will become a free agent on July 1, 2011 if he doesn't sign an extension. Source: Real GM

One player the Jets are monitoring is the former Oakland Raiders bust JaMarcus Russell, who was cut recently after reportedly ballooning to 300 pounds according to Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com. Russell, the No. 1 overall pick in 2007, is training in Arizona, trying to get in shape. The Jets have received positive reports, but don't jump to conclusions here. Their interest appears to be cursory; we're talking maybe one phone call. Sources say the Arizona Cardinals or the Minnesota Vikings are the most likely landing spot. Source: ESPN.com

Torre Uninterested In Making Up With Yankees
Sportsguy9695 replied to Sportsguy9695's topic in Baseball Forum
I was always a fan of Joe. And if he does not manage this team next year im sure he will get picked up by another team -
Joe Torre insisted on Friday that he holds no hard feelings towards the Yankees. "I don't think the wounds were ever that deep," he said. "Maybe a scrape or two, but that was it." He sounded convincing, as he always does, and yet earlier Friday Mel Stottlemyre, Torre's close friend and former pitching coach, was saying quite the opposite over the phone. "If the Yankees decided to honor Joe in some way anytime soon, I think Joe would refuse," Stottlemyre said. "That's just my opinion, but I've talked to him enough to know how he feels about some things. "I just hope time heals the wounds, on both sides, really. I think maybe it will, at least for Joe. I don't know about the other side." Source: RealGM.com

Team spokesman Matt Barnhart confirmed Sunday that Lewand was arrested and released Friday night. Lewand was attending a charity golf event in Houghton Lake, about 150 miles northwest of Detroit. Without providing details, Lewand says he's "a person in active recovery" and "committed to taking all necessary steps to ensure nothing like this ever happens again." Roscommon County sheriff's officials would neither confirm nor deny the incident. Source: ESPN

Veteran RB Fred Taylor may have to battle for a roster spot in training camp. ESPN writer Mike Reiss wrote "I still think he can add a lot to a team, I could also envision a scenario in which he is fighting for a roster spot based on numbers at other positions." Taylor is an NFL veteran at age 34 and his competition is Benjarvus Green-Ellis, Laurence Maroney, and Sammy Morris. Source: ESPN

By floating the idea of an 18-game schedule, the NFL has added another negotiating point to the stalled labor talks. Chicago GM Jerry Angelo says one of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell's main objectives in expanding the regular-season format is to ensure all 32 teams play one game overseas each season. As usual, following the money seems like a good way to analyze the proposal. More regular-season games mean more TV revenues in the pockets of NFL owners who claim their profits aren't what they used to be. Many players will balk - until they become convinced those enhanced revenue streams will trickle their way. "I like what we've got right now, but going to 18 games wouldn't hurt, either," Titans defensive tackle Jovan Haye said to the Nashville Tennessean. "The preseason is necessary, but after those first two games, you're like, 'Wow, let's get the regular season going.' I'd prefer 18, not just because of the money but because it lets you get to football quicker." Source: Tampa Tribune

Al Skinner is out as the Boston College basketball coach, ending a 13-year tenure in which he led the Eagles to more wins than anyone else in school history—many of them in front of lackluster home crowds who never embraced the program.Athletic director Gene DeFilippo said Skinner’s departure was by mutual agreement, but it had all the markings of a firing: Skinner will be paid for the remaining three years on his contract, and DeFilippo discussed at length the teams’ shortcomings while referring to the move as “my decision.”“Change is good sometimes. How many basketball coaches have been in the same position for 13 years? Very, very few,” said DeFilippo, who arrived in Chestnut Hill shortly after Skinner in 1997 on the heels of a gambling scandal that had devastated the athletic department. Source: Yahoo Sports
