  3. LeBron James is making a guarantee about this third Finals appearance: This time there will be no regrets.Though his playoff career has been accomplished, the two worst series of James' career have been his two previous trips to the Finals. Speaking Monday as he and his Miami Heat teammates prepared to face the Oklahoma City Thunder in Tuesday's Game 1, James was confident that trend would come to an end."At the end of the day in this series I'm going to play my game and try to do whatever it takes on both ends and make plays," James said at Cheasapeake Energy Arena. "Whatever the results, I'm going to be satisfied with that. I'm going to be happy with it because I know I'm going to give it my all."James was certainly not satisfied with his production in the Finals loss to the Dallas Mavericks last year and plenty of people wondered if he'd given it his all. After averaging 25.8 points, 7.8 rebounds and 6.3 assists in the conference finals, James had little impact in the series against the Mavericks. He averaged just 17.6 points, which was stunningly third on his team. His Game 4 performance, where he only scored eight points as the Heat lost control of the series, was arguably the worst game of his career. Source: ESPN

  10. Boston mayor Thomas Menino, who has a dubious history of blunders and mispronunciations when talking about the city's sports teams, stuck his foot in his mouth again Wednesday when discussing the Celtics' performance in the Eastern Conference finals."There's a lot of heart in this team, let me just tell you," Menino told reporters, before adding, "KJ is great but Hondo is really the inspiration. Hondo drives that team."KJ, of course, should be KG, Kevin Garnett. "KJ" was the nickname for former Phoenix Suns guard Kevin Johnson, who is currently the mayor of Sacramento. And "Hondo" was Celtics legend John Havlicek's nickname. Hondo hasn't graced the Boston parquet since 1978. Menino was referring to Celtics guard Rajon Rondo.Menino appears to be able to laugh at himself, however. On Thursday, he tweeted: "You know it's championship season when I flub our athletes' names! Sorry KG & Rondo, it's kind of my thing -- another Menino-ism!" Source: ESPN
  11. No matter how inevitable it seems, Anthony Davis wasn't quite ready to pronounce himself the top pick in the draft."It's not set in stone," the former Kentucky star said.It just seems that way.The New Orleans Hornets own the No. 1 pick later this month, and they'll turn at least a few heads if they don't take Davis. In a deep draft class, the lanky power forward is right there at the head of it. Source: ESPN
  12. Roy Hibbert wants to keep playing basketball in Indiana, and the Pacers intend to make their All-Star center happy.t will just come down to dollars and sense."Of course this isn't going to be his last time in Indy, he's not going anywhere," Pacers coach Frank Vogel said with a smile shortly Thursday before playing in the Caroline Symmes celebrity softball game, which benefits the Indiana Children's Wish Fund. 13. The Chicago Bulls front office has been outspoken over the past year about their desire to keep Taj Gibson on the roster. The feeling is mutual.Gibson, who will become a restricted free agent at the end of next season, knows the Bulls have a lot of other decisions to make before they get down to hammering out an extension, but he would like to lock something up which would make him a Bull for a long time to come."Really, it doesn't matter (when it happens)," Gibson told ESPNChicago.com Thursday afternoon. "I told (general manager) Gar (Forman) and (vice president John Paxson) how committed I am to just being with the Bulls. It's not a thought in my head to leave Chicago because I love playing for the Bulls. Source: ESPN

  18. If the Nets win the lottery to select Anthony Davis, it will not be enough to sign Deron Williams as a free agent, according to sources."It's Dwight Howard or bust," said a league source who has spoken to Williams.Williams doesn't want to wait for Davis to develop and won't re-sign with the team unless they become an instant contender. The Nets believe they will be able to retain Brook Lopez in a potential trade with the Magic if they win the lottery.Sources say Howard regrets opting into his contract and seeks a trade before the 12-13 season. But the Nets become a far less appealing destination if Williams leaves and that is why Howard's camp is putting pressure on the Magic to do a deal once a general manager is in place. Source: Real GM
  19. Indiana Pacers president Larry Bird sounds like he wants to run the team for a few more years. He's just waiting to work something out with team owner Herb Simon.Amid several earlier reports that Bird would yield control of the Pacers' day-to-day operations when this season ended, all of which Bird denied, he told reporters Wednesday that he loves his job, likes his team and would prefer coming back if Simon wants him.Bird took over as team president when Donnie Walsh left for the New York Knicks in 2008. He is widely credited for turning a struggling franchise into a playoff team. Bird was named this year's NBA Executive of the Year. Source: ESPN
  20. The downtown Pittsburgh hotel room of Cincinnati Reds closer Aroldis Chapman was robbed Tuesday night, according to a report in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.Pittsburgh police found a 26-year-old woman tied up and crying in Chapman's room when they arrived at the Omni Williams Penn hotel, according to the report.Chapman wasn't present because the Reds were playing the Pittsburgh Pirates at the time. The game started after a rain delay of 1 hour, 51 minutes.Officers were alerted by two guests who heard her screaming for help, according to the Post-Gazette. The guests, who were staying on the same floor of the hotel, found the woman inside an open room with her hands bound by cloth napkins, police spokesman Diane Richard said in a news release. The unidentified woman, whom Richard said was from Silver Spring, Md., was "the hotel guest of a male who attended the Pirates baseball game and who was not present at the time of the incident. A bad week on the injury front just got worse for the Cleveland Indians.Designated hitter Travis Hafner will have surgery on his right knee Thursday and is expected to miss four to six weeks.Indians trainer Lonnie Soloff said Wednesday that Hafner would have an arthroscopic procedure to repair fraying and irritation in his right meniscus. Hafner was placed on the 15-day disabled list before Wednesday's game against Kansas City.Hafner, who will turn 35 on June 3, is making $13 million in the final season of a four-year, $57 million contract. The Indians hold a club option for next season worth $13 million and a $2.75 million buyout. This is the sixth trip to the DL in five seasons for Hafner. Three of the DL stints have been because of a right shoulder injury, which he had surgery on following the 2008 season.Hafner hasn't played since May 23. He is hitting .242 with six home runs and 23 RBIs in 39 games. Source: ESPN
