For all his faults he was a exciting player whether you like that that style of basketball or not. For such a small frame in both height & build he was fearless & put his body in harm's way for many years. He dragged a defensive oriented team that lacked talent into the Finals and one can argue he was the poster boy (for good or bad) for the emergence of the "hip hop" flavour in to the NBA (and vice-versa). As a Raptors fan despite the results his (76ers) and Vinces (Raptors) Playoff battle still to this day is one of my favourite playoff series to have watched. Once again Jerry Sloan gets underrated. No dis-respect towards the other coaches mentioned but there's no doubt in my mind that he's the best coach in the NBA and the most under-appreciated one. Yes, he never got his team a title but when he got his shot Michael Jordan stood in his way like he did to so many more coaches. Also he's never had a team stacked like the Lakers, Celtics or Spurs during this decade that he could coach to the finals and win with unlike Doc, Gregg and Phil as had for the last 4 years. He's always done a wonderful job with the team he's been given and they always seem to compete throughout the season but there just not good enough to win it all. And he always seems to overcome when one of his major stars goes down with an injury. There's also a reason why he's the longest serving coach in the NBA right now...and will probably get another extension sometime soon. So my vote is for Jerry Sloan.

His play is definitely starting to pick up, and if were talking "right now" then yes he belongs in the Top 5 as a Power Forward. Pau Gasol just came back from injury and IMO he doesn't belong on the list "right now". But as the season goes along and the more minutes/touches he gets he'll put himself back in the Top 5. Here's what my list looks like in no particular order because right now it's too hard to determine who belongs where. Kevin Garnett Chris Bosh Drik Nowitzky Tim Duncan Amare Stoudamire In a few years guys like Garnett and Duncan will be hoisted out of the top 5 and it will be a sad day as a Basketball fan. But I like the young guys are will start taking over those Hall of Fame guys.

The best post players in the NBA right now are Al Jefferson, Pau Gasol, Zach Randolph, Andrew Bynum and Yao Ming. You could even put players like Kobe Bryant and Carmelo Anthony on the lists who actually goes down low and works hard to get some of their points with post play even though there perimiter type of players. If I had to pick the best one right now it as to be Al Jefferson. He's almost unguardable when he brings his game in the post, and he easliy as 6-7 different moves he could use effectively down there. But I can see Andrew Bynum being the best post player for years to come as he gains more confidence down in the trenches. But it's ashame that post play is starting to get instinct. Guys like Nowitzky, Bosh, Sheed, Garnett, Stoudamire, and Aldridge are all perimiter players and hardly go in the post...even a guy like Howard and his body is a terrible posts player. Oh the 80's and 90's type of players are long gone...

Just to start off with I'd like everyone to know I'm a big fan of Iverson. On topic, this situation won't taint anything because everyone knew what type of person/basketball player he was before this whole mess in Memphis happened. He's always been a me-type player and wants to get his most of the time his team is on the court. Like you said he is Hall of Fame bound/50 greatest player but he'll always have a black ball whenever his name is mentioned because the player he was on the hardwood. If he'd ever learn to be a team guy he'd be 10 times the basketball player he is today.

They aren't players next year for 2010 so they can take back a contract like Noc without hesitating because it doesn't have an effect on them in the long run. They have KG locked up, Rondo locked up, pierce and Allen will be locked up. I am sure Perkins will be locked up too. They don't need to worry about 2010. That is why I think there are teams out there like the Celtics, Mavs, Lakers, etc... that can get steals just because they don't care about 2010.

Good article as usual BFT but the time table the Knicks gave the media that they would possibly sign Allen Iverson was last night which definitely didn't happen, and the Knicks organization came out today saying that they wouldn't sign Allen Iverson to a contract this season. Now the big question is...if the struggling Knicks didn't want to take a chance on this guy who will??

The easiest way to spot an NBA bust is to look at which organization drafted him. Competent coaching and front office management goes a long way. Michael Olowakandi probably could have been a good player if he didn’t start out with the clippers. I think the problem is people think the NBA should consist of 12 allstars on every team when that’s just not the way it works. Guys just don’t get drafted because GM’s think their going to be stars they also make picks based on needs. The truth is most teams are built with 9 or 10 role players and 2 or 3 certified allstars if that. Everyone can’t be a Lebron or Kobe in fact most people are not going to be, that’s what makes those players special. Just like we all can’t be doctors or lawyers and most people are either cleaning floors, working in the kitchen, or picking up trash. They are just important. Everybody needs someone to do the dirty work the NBA is no different.
