HOF QB Roger Staubach Thinks Today's NFL Is 'Kind of a Wussy Game'
Flash replied to a topic in NFL Football
Perception isn't necessarily the reality. With the how fast and strong the athletes are now the hits are probably way more violent than they ever were back then even with the amount of padding now and the helmets. -
College: Herbie and Fowler are both great Pro: Madden is a legend but right now Gruden is the best there is.
-
That's due to Barry's style of running. The fact that he had all those negative rushes and still managed to end up third on the all time yards list while retiring in his prime says something about how explosive he was. He's 1, 2 or 3 because those guys are interchangeable.
-
This is basically splitting hairs. Both were incredible players but had different styles so you can really go either way with it.
-
Payton also fumbled twice as many times as Sanders did over their careers.
-
That OL argument might work with Emmit, but not Sanders. Barry had no OL at any point during his career. In 10 years he had a lineman make the pro bowl once. Not any of the QB's or receivers around him ever made a pro bowl. It was just him out there on offense.
-
Bull[expletive]. Then let's take away OJ's while we're at it. This is NCAA hypocrisy at its finest.
-
Barry was the best back I've seen whether on the field or on tape. He's probably the most talented back I've ever seen. He only failed to reach 1,300 yards once in ten seasons. His career 5.0 YPC is amazing considering he never had the line that Emmit or even Sweetness had. Had Sanders not retired early he would've crushed Payton's running record with ease and Emmitt never would've caught up to him. Sanders was only one of 6 players to ever rush for over 2,000 yards in a season and averaged over 10 yards per game more than Payton over their careers. Basically, this is only a discussion because Sanders retired early. Paytons numbers wouldn't even be comparable had Sanders played for another year or 2.

Yeah...ok. Let's see how he'd hold up against today's athletes and modern defensive schemes. -
I bought these tee's and I usually wear em with cargos. http://shegotgame.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/wade-county.jpg http://the305.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/3KINGS.jpg http://solefly.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/38590_414348241318_256388116318_5123389_705179_n.jpg

Emmitt is probably the 3rd or 4th best RB of all time. My list would probably go: 1. Barry Sanders 2. Jim Brown 3. Walter Payton 4. Emmit 5. Marshall Faulk (most underrated player of all time)
-
Agree. Mallet should jump over Pryor with a good game but Denard is still at the top.
-
This is the hardest game to pick IMO. Arizona is very good on both sides of the ball and has an explosive offense and IMO the better QB. Iowa has a ridiculous D-Line though with Claiborne. I'll take Arizona at home.
-
Still can't deny those stats he put up. 143 catches in one year is ridiculous. Number 2 all time in receptions, and that's with another Pro Bowler on the other side of him. Number 5 all time in receiving yards for a guy who was never really known as a deep threat. Harrison almost broke Jerry's single season yards record at age 30. Albeit Rice set it at 33 but its still impressive nonetheless. Number 5 all time in receiving touchdowns as well with 128. Harrison was consistently great from 99 until 2006. Those things put him in my top 5.
-
I'd say its Rice and then Jim Brown. Had he played longer it'd be Barry Sanders without hesitation.
-
I'm not the only one who's got him at 2. I can go right around and say you have Moss over Irvin because he's a Patriot right now. Rice played in a pass first offense and played until he was 40 years old. Let's not forget that when he was on the Raiders he had Rich Gannon who was the 2002 MVP. Of course his stats are going to be better.
-
The difference there is in the systems they played in.
-
While I agree with you he benefited immensely from having a prime Peyton and Reggie on the other side of him, he's still one of the best route runners to ever play the game and his stats are up there with some of the best. If you're gonna say Marvin was spoonfed by Peyton then you can say Rice was thrown to by 2 of the best quarterbacks in recent memory.

When, how did you lose your virginity?

You know what I take it back, T.O. would be top 5 for me. 1. Rice 2. Irvin 3. Moss 4. Owens 5. Harrison Where would you guys put Torry Holt? Possibly the most underrated WR of all time.

You're overrating Marvin Harrison big time. T.O. isn't top 5 dude, and he's one of my favorite players.
-
On talent alone he's top 10 and easily a HOF'er. His "issues" shouldn't overshadow his performance on the field.
-
If irvin isn't playing in that run first system in Dallas his numbers would be on par with Rice. Has nothing to do with him being a Cane. He was a Cane before I was even born and I hate the Cowboys.

I cried after that [expletive] lol. I remember the game too.
