Whitney Mercilus, DE/OLB (We lost Mario so we needed someone to take his spot so in comes Mercilus. I like this pick he's versatile and helps with our pass rush not to mention he had 16 sacks, 9 forced fumbles, and 22.5 tackles for losses last year with Illinois. The one problem that everyone seems to have with him is that he's a one year wonder though I think he won't have a problem adjusting to the NFL intact I think he will get better. I have heard some comparing him to Jason Pierre-Paul and Aldon Smith becuase of how agile, strong, and athletic he is. I really hope that's true.) DeVier Posey, WR (I have mixed feelings about taking Posey especially when we had the chance to draft Rueben Randle in the second or get Sanu when we traded down. Don't get me wrong he was a productive player while playing but I felt we could have gotten better value at where we was and not to mention he only played 2 games all of last year. However before he missed all of last year he was projected to be a late first or early second round pick in last years draft had he declared so we may have gotten a steal at least I'm hoping but will just have to wait and see.) Brandon Brooks, OG (I like this guys potential and body for an OG he probably could start right away with us but he will need to get a little quicker since that was one of the concerns with many scouts on his play.) Ben Jones, C (He adds depth to out thin O-line and he can play both center and OG for us. From what I've heard he's perfect for our zone blocking scheme.) Keshawn Martin, WR (I don't know much about this guy but from the highlight's I've seen I like his potential he adds depth to our receivers and I'm assuming he may be out new kick returner. From what I've heard he's quick and explosive and he's good catching short passes so he should be good in our offense since we do a lot of check downs , screens, and play actions.) Jared Crick, DT (I like this pick as well he was considered a 1st round prospect until he got injured. He can give Cody competition for playing time at NT. He's another player who could possibly be a still for us especially if he can stay healthy Randy Bullock, K (I really don't like drafting kickers but since Rackers left and we were in position to take one I guess it's O.K.) Nick Mondek, OT (I don't know and can't say much about this dude but he adds depth at OT and can hopefully be competition for Rashad Butler at RT) Overall Grade:B ( This was a decent draft for us we addressed most of our needs but I felt we could have gotten better receivers but will just have to wait and see how Posey and Martin pan out.)

The draft is now over so I want to take time to reflect on my teams picks and grade them. I also want to know who does everyone think was the winners and losers of this years draft.

Goran Dragic vs. Kyle Lowry: Who do you Keep?
htownborn replied to Built Ford Tough's topic in Houston Rockets Team Forum
It will probably be Dragic but I prefer Lowry. I honestly don't understand why people are giving up on Lowry just because of how Dragic was playing while he was hurt. Dragic is good and I would love to keep him but Lowry is a much better all around player and PG right now. He sets his teammates up better for easier buckets than Dragic and is a better defender IMO and he's also a very good rebounder for his height. The only thing Dragic does better than Lowry to me is score. Plus I just feel Dragic would be better suited coming off of our bench since he's such a good scorer but I can understand why he wants to start. -
D-Rose starting to heat up
-
I got Chicago in 5 maybe 6. This should be interesting watching Rose vs Turner since they used to go at it in high school.
-
Damn STL takes Quick then Indy takes Fleener back to back. I wanted both of them in a Texans jersey
-
Kind of shocked with our pick but not upset with it. I thought we may have went with Cordy Glenn or Steven Hill but Mercilus was one of the best players available and he adds depth to our D. We should get a WR tomorrow though I hope Quick or Randle will be available next time we pick.
-
Congrats to my boy Mike Brockers
-
Eagles traded up they probably want Fletcher Cox or Melvin Ingram
-
This draft is getting interesting. The domino's strated to fall when Jags traded up
-
True but I think we we should still take Fleener for our first pick if he's there, (he'll more than likely be there) and draft a receiver in the second round. This draft is deep at receiver so we should get some good value in the second or third round. I don't mind us taking another QB in the draft I just feel we needs another vet so we won't have to go through what we did last season. Yates did good but like you said he was thrown to the wolves unexpectedly without any training camp and even though he did a decent job he showed he still needs a lot of work so I say sign another vet to help teach him a little bit more along with Schaub. I haven't heard about Crick's injury but I guess that's why he's stock went down so much from a late 1st or early second rounder to a potential 3rd rounder. But you can't always let injury's stop you from drafting a guy remember Arian Foster went undrafted because of injury problems that and fumbleities and look how he turned out for us. I agree though we should take a safer pick and Alameda Ta'amu is another guy I've been looking at but as you said he may be second round talent I doubt we draft a NT that high unless we can get Brockers like I've said in the first round. It really doesn't matter who we get though I'm sure Wade won't make a mistake with whoever he drafts at NT.

The James signing was definitely for depth reasons and I wouldn't be surprised if we cut him but he did a solid job in Dallas so I fell he could do good here. Sharpton was good when he had time on the field will he progress anymore that remains to be seen. Hightower would be a good choice for us and I would like to have him on the team but I just don't see us taking a ILB in the first round since it's not that big of a need. And most mocks I see Quick as a late second rounder but those are just mocks of course anything crazy can happen during draft night, I agree though he'll probably be picked in the mid second round but if he falls to us we shouldn't hesitate to take him. If we take a NT I say get Jared Crick, Josh Chapman, or Derek Wolf (he's someone the Texans have already met with). I agree we should take lineman for our 4th and 5th picks I don't really know about CB though. We could go that route but I think we should just get a vet CB from free agency I think were young enough at CB with Jackson, Harris, McCain etc... we should get another vet at QB too and just continue to groom Yates. "Actually just give me Fleener" lol I see this is one thing we can definitely agree on

I think Randle is pretty good compared to a couple of receivers in this draft but he could be a bit of a reach especially if the Texans are that desperate for a receiver which is why I wouldn't be surprised if they trade this pick. And I agree with you about Hill I don't see what's the big deal about him apart from his size and athleticism. He reminds of a better Jacoby Jones but since most mocks have the Texan's taking him I included him in the list. Hightower was a guy I was close to putting in my list too but since we just signed Bradie James and we still have Sharpton I think the Texans will probably wait until maybe the 2nd or 3rd round if not later to address Inside LB. And I agree with Brian Quick even though I never seen him play live I've seen a lot of highlights he could be a steal in the 2nd or 3rd round he kind of reminds me of poor man's Brandon Marshall.

Houston Texans 1st round options 1. Rueben Randle 6'3" 210 LSU (He has good size, hands, and speed. He's also a good route runner and can be physical with opposing DB's. I have seen him projected in both the late 1st and early 2nd round but there's a good chance he could be there at #26 when the Texans pick. I think he could possibly be a steal for any team that gets him) 2. Stephen Hill 6'4" 215 Georgia Tech (A lot of mocks I see have us taking Hill and with good reason he has good size like Randle actually better size and he's more explosive and athletic. The one problem I have with Stephen Hill is the production he put in at Georgia Tech. He didn't have half as many catches or TD's as most projected 1st rounder did. It could be because of the system they ran at GT but regardless I think he could be an upgrade over Jacoby Jones and a better fit.) 3. Coby Fleener 6'6" 244 Stanford (I know were likely to go WR or OLB with our first pick but if a guy like Fleener falls to us I think we should take a chance and get him. I know we have Daniels and there's a slim chance we take him but imagine how dangerous the Texans would be if they got a guy like Fleener. He's a Rob Gronkowiski/Jimmy Graham type of player at 6'6" 245. Our offense would be even more explosive with Andre and who ever we draft at wide out, Daniels and Fleener at TE, Foster and Tate in the back field.) 4. Jonathan Martin 6'6" 304 Stanford (Obviously OT isn't our biggest need but Martin would be great value at #26. After releasing Eric Winston we need to fill the hole at right tackle. Martin is another guy that was projected a top 10-15 pick but I have seen him fall in a lot of mock's and couple of them actually have him going to Texans.) 5. Michael Brockers 6'5" 306 LSU (OLB and ILB are more important to draft for our defense and in the first round IMO but we can address that in later rounds especially if Brock falls to us. I know this is irrelevant to this topic but I actually went to the same high school with this dude and he was a beast then and today is no different. In most mock's he's projected between 15-25 so his another guy that we would have a slim chance of getting but if he falls below 25 I wouldn't mind us taking him. I believe he would be an upgrade over Cody and our front line would be nasty with Watt, Brockers, and Smith.) Another possibility trade down for more picks.

I know we have a NFL off season thread but I wanted to make a separate draft thread to here people's opinion's on the draft. The draft is lease than a week a way and I want to know some guys you would like to see your team draft in the first round.
-
True Crawford is a streaky shooter and he is shooting a terrible 40% from the field but he's still young as well and that doesn't mean he can't improve. But you make a great case for Beal for the simple fact that Beal knows how to score as well as defend while MKG is a good defender and raw offensive prospect, but I think whoever they take weather it's Beal or MKG it could help them out a lot. Honestly though I feel both would be a bit of a reach at #2 even though I think both have great potential I see a guy like Harrison Barnes as a prospect with more potential yet most makes don't even have him as a top 5 pick (I guess because he disappointed many with his play during the tournament and he struggles to create shots for hisself at times) might just be me though. And that's why I usually don't try to look at many mock draft's before the lottery because no one really has a clue to where these prospects will fall with the exception of Anthony Davis.
-
I agree with most of your mock except for Beal to the Wizards. I think that would be an interesting pick and I agree with your points on Beal but I feel Kidd-Gilchrist would make more sense for Washington at #2. For one the Wizards already have Jordan Crawford at SG and he should continue to get better and the WIzards will more than likely have a high second round pick so they can take a back up SG like a John Jenkins or William Buford there. Also I know the Wizards just drafted Vesely and Singleton and still has Rashad Lewis massive contract but if they draft MKG they can amnesty (if there able to do that next year) or trade Lewis and move Vesely to PF and just let MKG start at SF with Singleton backing him up. And I agree with Flash if Utah is to pick a PG that high I seriously doubt they would pass on Marshall for Lillard since he's more of a scorer than the traditional PG's that Utah likes to have.

Pau's a better all around player than Marc he has good handles for a big man, nice court vision, and a good mid range game along with a good post game.Marc is tougher and the better defender out of the both of them and has a developing mid range and post game, he's a good passer as well but not better than Pau IMO. It's pretty tough to say who's better right now but I still say its Pau.

Good to hear. If we make it to the playoffs hopefully Kyle will able to play again.

Championship: #2 Kansas vs. #1 Kentucky
htownborn replied to Real Deal's topic in General NCAA Discussion
Congrats to Kentucky and to coach Cal for finally winning him a national championship. Kansas played good but started the game real slow IMO but I'm happy that T-Rob at least made it to the Championship game especially after what he had to deal with all of last year. -

Wrestlemania 28 Discussion

I haven't watched wrestling in years but after hearing that The Rock and now Brock Lesnar has returned I might just start giving it a look again. -
Traning Day is easily my favorite movie by Denzel it was so different and fresh from any other movie that Denzel had ever done. I also liked Man on Fire, Inside Man, He Got Game, and Ricochet even though its kind of stupid IMO. Remember The Titans was nice too.
