  1. Also, all about the Western Conference. The better conference for decades. Current system that gives (Eastern Conf.) teams with sub .500 a playoff berth is absurd. There are teams in the West like Portland with records above .500 missing the 'offs. Totally unfair. <_< The NBA needs to change that. It'll be improve the quality of postseason basketball. Gon' be a win-win situation.
  2. ESPN Research Notes: The Clippers improve to 15-7, their best start since the 1974-'75 season when they started 16-6. It's the Clippers first win in Orlando since February 1st, 2006 (Cassell era). 'Lob City' won their 4th straight road game, which is tied for their longest road winning streak since they moved to Los Angeles. Their last 4-game road winning streak spanned over 2 seasons - April 12th, 2007 to Nov. 7th, '07. The all-time franchise record is 5 straight wins back in November of 1973, when they were the Buffalo Braves. Source

  4. Game #22, LAC @ ORL 107-102, (15-7, 2nd West) Clippers Lose Chauncey, Win OT Battle in Orlando http://www.latimes.com/media/photo/2012-02/67898250.jpg Chris Paul scored 29 points (3-3 3PT, 8-8 FT), along with eight assists, and seven rebounds. Blake Griffin added 18 points and 10 rebounds (14th double-double this season) to help the Clippers outlast the Magic 107-102 in overtime Monday night. Chauncey Billups had 18 points (five 3-pointers) before leaving with an injury to his lower left leg in the fourth quarter. Butler had 14 points, 11 in the second half and overtime. NOTES: The Clippers keep coming together, no matter the adversity or how many pieces enter or exit the lineup. Faced with an early 15-point deficit and the loss of veteran leader Chauncey Billups to a left Achilles injury, L.A. battled back to beat the Orlando Magic, 107-102, in overtime at Amway Center. Point guard Chris Paul took command of the game in the second half and overtime and Caron Butler dropped in four of his final six shots to overtake the Magic (15-10). It’s the first time the Clippers (15-7) have won in Orlando since February 2006. No shots were bigger than the final three field goals of the night. With the Magic up by four, Butler canned a jumper from the right baseline after ball-faking a hard closing J.J. Redick at the 3-point line. Then Paul swiped the ball away from Glen Davis, received a pass up court from Mo Williams, and threw a crosscourt pass to a trailing Butler for a 3-pointer from the left wing. Paul essentially sealed the win on the next possession with a brilliant step-back jumper on the over the outstretched right arm of fellow superstar Dwight Howard. The Clippers held Howard to just eight points over the last 29 minutes of the game. And while the Magic center finished with a game-high 33 points and 14 rebounds, DeAndre Jordan and forward Reggie Evans battled him admirably. Both Clipper big men fouled out in overtime, but not before combining for 17 rebounds (10 offensive). The Clippers finished with 46-37 advantage on the glass and it was rebounding, as much as Butler and Paul’s shooting, that saved them in the end. Evans ripped down a key defensive board with Ryan Anderson and Redick in better position. And Ryan Gomes and Butler corralled offensive rebounds in the final minute of overtime after misses by Butler and Paul. Butler stole the ball from Richardson on the Magic’s second-to-last possession in regulation, leading to two free throw attempts for Griffin, who had made his first five, as he was fouled by Nelson on a breakaway. Griffin made the first, but missed the second. And Nelson missed a fadeaway over Jordan on the other end as the fourth quarter expired. Griffin, a 48.6% free throw shooter on the year, finished 6-of-7 from the line. The Clippers broke “Lawler’s Law” for the first time this season: they trailed 96-100 in overtime and came back to win 107-102! It’s the third time the Clippers have ended a losing streak of nine games or longer against an opponent in the last eight days: They snapped a 9-game losing streak in Denver on Jan. 29th, and a 16-game losing streak at Utah on Feb. 1st…

  11. This season the Clippers can set a new franchise record for best Regular-Season Winning Percentage: Best Regular-Season Record (Los Angeles era): http://www.nba.com/media/clippers/25seasonslogo_100high.gif http://www.nba.com/media/clippers/history_0506.gif http://i40.tinypic.com/11i21b5.png 2005–06 Pacific 2nd 47-35 (.573) Best Regular-Season Record in Franchise History: 49 -33 (.598) as the Buffalo BRAVES (1974–'75) So far the 2011-'12 L.A. Clippers regular season record stands at 14 -7 (.667). If they win 26 more games (finish with a 40-26 record), will reach the .610 mark -- which would be the equivalent Winning Pct. of a 50-32 season.
  12. Clippers set sights on signing J.R. Smith Smith can return to the NBA after his team in China finishes its season http://www.latimes.com/media/photo/2012-02/67861606.jpg J.R. Smith, shown playing for the Denver Nuggets against the Lakers in 2010, can't return to the NBA until his Zhejiang Golden Bulls team's season is over. (Luis Sinco) By Broderick Turner February 5, 2012 Reporting from Washington— The Clippers, still not done dealing after signing Kenyon Martin on Friday, will pursue guard J.R. Smith after the team he plays on in the Chinese Basketball Assn. finishes its season and he becomes eligible to play in the NBA, said a person not authorized to speak publicly on the matter. The Clippers aren't getting enough production off the bench behind small forward Caron Butler and feel as if Smith can provide the team with a big scoring punch at the position, the person said. Smith, a 6-6 wing player, averaged 12.5 points on 42.8% shooting, including 37.1% from three-point range, during his seven-year NBA career with New Orleans and Denver. He would be an unrestricted free agent that the Clippers could sign to the mini-mid-level exception of $2.5 million, or for the veteran minimum of about $1 million. Under the CBA rules, Smith still can't return to the NBA until his Zhejiang Golden Bulls team's season is over. If the Golden Bulls miss the playoffs, it could open the door for Smith to return to the NBA by the All-Star weekend, Feb. 25-26. The New York Knicks and Lakers reportedly also have interest in Smith. But the Clippers like their chances because Smith played with Chris Paul in New Orleans and with Chauncey Billups and Martin in Denver. The Clippers have a 15-man roster and would have to waive a player to make room for Smith. Source

  15. Lakers Fan Ice Cube was not happy with David Stern, briefly Ice Cube, from hip-hop pioneer to TBS basic cable regular, has long been a steadfast fan of the Los Angeles Lakers. And when the NBA puts an end to talk of the league's best point guard heading to his Los Angeles Lakers, then Cube tends to act more of a fan than a basic cable regular. Yeah, the guy kind of wanted Chris Paul on the Lakers. From ESPN2's 'Dan LeBatard is Highly Questionable,' on Friday: Source
  16. Documents: Seattle working to bring NBA back http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/ABPub/2008/08/30/2008030598.jpg SEATTLE (AP)—The city of Seattle has been working behind the scenes the past eight months with a hedge-fund manager to bring an NBA team back to town— possibly as early as next fall if the Sacramento Kings fail to get a satisfactory deal for a new arena, newly released documents show. The city turned over the documents to The Seattle Times on Friday under a public records request (http://is.gd/PyQ06N ). The documents included the agenda for a meeting between the parties on Dec. 13, with topics including “Review of Basic Deal Structure,” “City Debt Capacity” and “Financing Issues.” A Seattle native who now lives in San Francisco, 44-year-old hedge-fund manager Christopher Hansen, approached the city about his desire to buy an NBA team and build an arena south of Safeco Field, the documents show. Hansen told city officials an arena could be built with minimal impact on taxpayers. Full Story
  17. Orlando Has Lost Its Magic http://sdcsports.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/dwight-howard1-300x141.jpg On June 24, 2004, a mere seven-and-a-half years ago, NBA Commissioner David Stern said the famous line, “With the first overall pick in the 2004 NBA Draft, the Orlando Magic select Dwight Howard.” That quote is now a distant memory to Magic fans, who currently seem to be witnessing the conclusion of the Dwight Howard era in Orlando. Recently, Howard added the L.A. Clippers to his personal trade block. The Clippers are just another name to be placed on Howard’s laundry list of potential suitors that already include the Lakers and Nets. Orlando, being a small market team, does not have the appeal of a big market the way Los Angeles and Boston could provide. The harsh reality, though, is that the Magic have had their fair share of opportunities to keep their star happy and in Orlando. Over the last seven seasons with Howard, the Magic have attempted to incorporate multiple superstars to play with Howard. In 2007, they went out and brought in small forward Rashard Lewis to be the wingman. At the point, Orlando went with the prospect of St. Joe’s standout Jameer Nelson. Nelson was acquired in the same draft as Howard by Denver, and Orlando quickly traded for him. Full Story
