  3. The way SA played they would have beaten anyone. No blame on the coaches or players. When the opposing team can't miss with catch and shoot techniques you are in for a long night. We were out rebounded due their great shooting - lack of opportunities. VDN didn't let the game get out of control and even late in the 4th - the Clips played with poise. No team can play like SA last night for a whole season. We'll get our revenge later in the season... Boston and Dallas have already lost two games each, and the Lakers didn't start very well, did they. Golden State beat the Bulls after we walloped them. So, there are crazy things going on and last nights game is just one of them. Remember, San Antonio won 61 games last year to lead the NBA. And they were on fire. But let's hope it motivates our boys for Friday nights game.

  9. Not sure what to think about tonight's game. My head says that Parker and the Spurs have always been able to do a decent job on Paul, and that would make the rest of the Clippers appear like the mötley crew they have always been. My gut, though, fears that this could get ugly.
  10. Immediately following the draft-night trade for Corey Maggette, Bobcats coach Paul Silas called Maggette to deliver two messages: Maggette would be this team's starting small forward and go-to scorer. And Silas needed Maggette to immediately become this team's leader and a mentor to young teammates. Entering his 13th NBA season and joining his fifth NBA franchise, Maggette didn't feel put-upon. Instead he was flattered that Silas, a coach he never before played for, had so much faith in him. Maggette entered last season following ankle surgery and never really caught on with the Milwaukee Bucks. So the trade to Charlotte has reignited his career. Maggette instantly took to mentoring. He buys dinner for the young players as a means to build team chemistry. He frequently calls rookie Kemba Walker to be a resource and a sounding board. He recently stayed an hour after practice to teach backup Derrick Brown a spin move to free up Brown's mid-range jump shot. "I'm on my way out of this league, so it's important I help these guys out," Maggette told the Charlotte Observer. The Bobcats, who beat the Bucks 96-95 on opening night, have undergone a dramatic youth movement. Gerald Wallace and Stephen Jackson were traded over a four-month period. Those deals allowed the team to draft Walker and fellow rookie Bismack Biyombo, both top-10 picks. Those two, plus Tyrus Thomas, D.J. Augustin and Gerald Henderson, form the Bobcats' future. Maggette has advised Thomas on controlling his temper and Augustin on feeling more confident. He's encouraged Henderson to seek out Bobcats owner Michael Jordan for pointers on basketball, as Maggette did when he was a young player. While Silas didn't know Maggette well before the trade, his son, lead assistant Stephen Silas, had coached Maggette at Golden State. The younger Silas knew Maggette had the qualities to mentor. "He's intuitive and thoughtful," Stephen Silas told the Observer. "You wouldn't think from afar he has that soft side, that nurturing side, with his teammates." Source
  11. Corey Maggette came into the league really good at one thing: getting to the basket and finishing or getting to the free throw line. And he's still good at that. Now, with Maggette on the woeful Charlotte Bobcats, we're expecting a big return to fantasy relevance for the former Duke standout. Over his 11 year NBA career, Maggette has averaged 6.9 free throws per game and has shot that high volume at an excellent 82.2% over his career. That stat alone helps immensely in winning FTM and FT%, if your league has FT%. But it won't be just free throws that make Maggette relevant. With the Bobcats second (or first?) best scorer a rookie, Kemba Walker of UCONN's national championship squad, Maggette figures to be nearly the focal point of a team that may struggle to win 25 games. The Bobcats signaled full on rebuilding mode last season when dealing aged star Gerald Wallace to the Portland Trailblazers. After jettisoning Stephen Jackson on Draft night, the Bobcats made it clear they had no intentions of competing this season. Bringing in Kemba Walker and Bismack Biyombo will help. But I doubt it will be anywhere near enough help to get the Bobcats within sniffing distance of the NBA Playoffs. After getting horribly beat up in 09-10 by the Magic in a series in which they were able to limit the effectiveness (at least offensively) of Dwight Howard, it became clear that the Bobcats had no chance of winning going in their current direction. I've probably missed two or three fantasy drafts in the 9 years I have been doing fantasy basketball—and one of those drafts was yesterday afternoon. After working all night on writing endeavors, I didn't have the energy to stay awake until the noon draft, but I also have no idea why I am giving you, my reader, an explanation either—so we'll move on. The point is: I got Maggette from auto draft in that draft, and couldn't be more pleased. I also landed his teammate, the talented yet inconsistent and enigmatic Tyrus Thomas. To be sure, Thomas figures to benefit from the Bobcats being horrible as well. Read More
