  1. The Kings announced Wednesday they had exercised the contract options on center DeMarcus Cousins and guard Jimmer Fredette for the 2013-14 season. Both players' options are part of their rookie deals. "We're looking forward to seeing DeMarcus and Jimmer play this year and continue to grow, improve and help this team be successful," basketball president Geoff Petrie said in a statement. Source: Sacramento Bee Salmons’ Return Still Up In The Air Meanwhile the Kings are uncertain when forward John Salmons will return to the team. When he does, he'll have to play his way back into the rotation. Salmons has missed the last two games because of personal reasons. Source

DeAndre Jordan had team-highs of 18 points and 12 rebounds. A week ago, Paul said he felt as if the team played too slow at times last season. On Monday, they controlled the pace and the ball. Blake Griffin and Paul combined for 15 assists and the Clippers assisted on 25 of their 36 made field goals. Paul was among several London Olympians honored at halftime.
  4. 76ers Guard Evan Turner Injures Ankle http://i.imgur.com/dlza7.png Philadelphia 76ers guard Evan Turner injured his ankle in the team’s preseason game against the Boston Celtics and was held out of the rest of the contest. Michael Preston, Philadelphia’s director of public relations, reported the following via Twitter: http://i.imgur.com/XNnwC.png Turner is entering his third season in the NBA after being picked second overall out of Ohio State in the 2010 draft. He has become a valuable part of the team’s rotation under head coach Doug Collins and played 26.4 minutes per game last season. At 6’7”, Turner is a versatile player who can be effective at multiple positions and fill up a stat sheet. He averaged 9.4 points on 44.6 percent shooting while also grabbing 5.8 rebounds and dishing out 2.8 assists last year. He helped the 76ers take the Celtics to seven games in the Eastern Conference Semifinals last season, averaging 10.7 points and 8.6 rebounds in the series. Source

  11. In order to make the 2013-'14 CONCACAF CL edition the Galaxy gon' have to: win the current 2012-2013 CCL?! or do one of the following: The four teams qualifying from the United States are the two MLS Cup finalists, the winner of the MLS Supporters' Shield , and the winner of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup (Sporting Kansas City) Should the same team qualify multiple times and/or should a Canadian team occupy one or more of the MLS qualifying places, then the American MLS team(s) with the best regular season records not otherwise qualified will be entered. 16. Jamal Crawford Practiced Shooting for the First Time This Year Stephen Jackson’s boast that he never trains in the offseason had people shaking their heads in disbelief. But, it turns out that he’s not alone. Jamal Crawford tells the LA Times that he only started working on this shot this summer: “After 12 NBA seasons and with a firm reputation as a pure shooter, Clippers guard Jamal Crawford tried something during the off-season he had never done before. He practiced shooting. It’s astonishing to think that Crawford, who is the NBA’s career leader with 34 four-point plays and ranks 21st all-time with 1,387 three-pointers, didn’t routinely spend his summers in stuffy gyms trying to perfect his shot. ‘I’ve never actually been drilled before. Seriously. I told Blake that, and he couldn’t believe it,’ Crawford said of teammate Blake Griffin. Crawford, 32, felt compelled to change his preparation after he signed a free-agent deal with the Clippers worth about $21 million over four years. Coming off a subpar season with the Portland Trail Blazers in which he hit 30.8% of his three-point attempts and shot a below-career-average 38.4% from the field, the NBA’s 2010 sixth man of the year saw an opportunity for good things here, and he wanted to be ready. For him, that meant doing shooting drills. ‘This summer was actually the first summer I worked on my game. I usually just play off of raw talent,’ he said Thursday after the Clippers’ practice. ‘But I just wanted to work on something and be in great shape coming into camp. I came here right after Labor Day, which is the earliest I’ve ever gone to any team in the summer, and all the guys were here, committed to getting better. Now it’s part of my lifestyle, working out and being here, shooting and getting shots up. It gives you more confidence that if you miss one or two, you know you’ve been working on it every single day and your teammates have confidence because they see it as well.’” Source

  19. Lamar Odom To Divorce Khloe Kardashian According to Star Magazine, Lamar and Khloe have been living apart for months (with Khloe living in Miami and Lamar staying back in Los Angeles). Apparently, after being apart from Khloe, for so long, Lamar has come to conclusion that it's time to call it quits on their marriage. One source told the magazine that Lamar has begun having secret meetings with a divorce lawyer. "He wants to be sure he's protected, because he knows the Kardashians will try to fight. (Lamar's) trying to keep his intentions quiet for now, so he can focus on his NBA comeback," the source claims. The source also added that he'll rather just go ahead and serve Khloe divorce papers and be done with the stress. Source
  20. In other news it was Joe Bryant's 58th birthday today, and Kobe joked with @LAIreland about how his dad can still play, but ... ... the issue is "recovery the day after. That's always the issue." Mike Brown also visited with Jellybean after he watched the Lakers' exhibition game in Vegas, telling Kobe's dad: "You look like you can still go a little!" Kobe said the thing he learned most from his dad was "basketball IQ. He and my uncle Chubby Cox really taught me and my cousins the entire game." Source
  21. Sources: Fisher Can Return to Lakers Now By James Cypert In an interesting update from last week’s news regarding a Derek Fisher/Lakers reunion, it now appears that Derek Fisher is actually eligible to re-sign with the Lakers now. Per Marc Stein of ESPN: …in Fisher’s case, confusion surrounding his player option for the 2012-13 season led to the belief in some league circles that he had picked up the option before the Houston Rockets bought him out. In reality, sources confirm, Fisher was bought out by Houston before he was eligible to invoke the 2012-13 option, which means that his contract was deemed to have ended June 30, sending Fisher to full-fledged free agency on July 1.” With Fisher as a true free agent, the only thing keeping him from joining the Lakers is the current logjam at point guard. With four point guards currently on the roster, the Lakers would need to trade away either Steve Blake or Chris Duhon to open up a roster spot in addition to sizing down their $100 million payroll. Should he rejoin the Lakers, it’s not yet clear whether Fisher would be the primary back-up to Steve Nash or if he would play a deeper role in the bench. Though, with two 38-year-old point guards on the roster, the Lakers would easily have the oldest backcourt in the NBA. What are your thoughts, Laker Nation? Should the Lakers actively pursue the resigning of Derek Fisher? Source
