He is consistent, he plays with a lot of heart, but shotblocking stats do not make you a good defender, same with rebounds, yes he does things that stops the team from scoring but I wouldn't call him the best defender, a perimeter players should get it because he defends the best like all the players I mentioned, LeBron's situation is also way different and doesnt have any relation to DPOY

Changing shots is a center's job, Yao changed a lot of shots, probably as much as Dwight Howard. He does impact the game defensively but he has no other center to face, he got owned by Yao every single time.

I dont believe it, theres no way he deserves it, when has he ever shut another center down? Other than the fact that he grabs rebounds and blocks shots, there is really no competition for him to face, he hasnt been proven defensively when facing other centers, he is also lucky that Yao has been injured this season, if anything, perimeters players in this era deserve DPOY every time, KG. Camby and Dwight have received them, but where are players like Kobe, Battier, Artest, Sefolosha, etc. Perimeter players deserve to get it because they are the ones defending Kobe, LeBron, Durant, Wade, etc. Who does the hell does Dwight have to defend? Chuck Hayes?

Wth at the responses here. On a basketball court there are 2 sides, the Blazers are one of the better defensive teams, Roy and Oden are exceptional defenders. The Thunder have too many weaknesses, which includes no centers, and defense, those are 2 very important pieces you need to win a championship, the Blazers also have a better bench, its easy for me, Blazers.
