  1. How many college coaches actually succeed in the NBA? Larry Brown and who else? Pitino, Jerry Tarkanian, PJ Carlesimo, Tim Floyd, Lon Kruger, Mike Montgomery, Leonard Hamilton, Sidney Lowe all were good to great college coaches that failed miserably in the NBA. Calipari failed when he was the coach of the Nets. Granted it was NJ but still. NY needs another coach to take the next step, but Calipari isn't it. How about Dolan just taking a backseat and letting Donnie Walsh handle things. He's done a nice job so far. I trust him more than the guy that wants to keep Isiah Thomas aroud.
  2. I've only seen it called once before to another player, either Shaq or Robert Horry. It's a weak way to get your 18th Tech. Didn't even get his money's worth. No tirade against the ref, no elbow to someone's head. But it's the right call. Though, they are picking on him it seems. I know other players who took 10+ seconds. Karl Malone was one of them. I'm sure there's others now. BTW...it seemed like they were going by Gerald Henderson's counting, which to me seemed pretty quick. WTF Salvatore?
  3. ALL-NBA FIRST TEAM C - Dwight Howard F - Dirk Nowitzki F - LeBron James G - Kobe Bryant G - Derrick Rose ALL-NBA SECOND TEAM C - Amare Stoudemire F - Pau Gasol F - Kevin Durant G - Dwayne Wade G - Russell Westbrook ALL-NBA THIRD TEAM C - Al Horford F - LaMarcus Aldridge F - Kevin Love G - Manu Ginobli G - Rajon Rondo
  4. VC was an elite wing for what? 2 seasons don't make you a HOFer. The HOF is based on your entire career, and VC's simply doesn't deserve HOF consideration. AL brought up something I didn't realize: VC never won 50 games except last year when he was just a shell of his former self. And he played the majority of his career in an era where the East was pathetically weak. Even still, no 50 win seasons and never got past the 2nd round. VC was an exciting player to watch and a good scorer, but his overall floor impact during his career isn't all that impressive. If guys like Kevin Johnson, who IMO is better, isn't in the HOF (and he shouldn't), then VC shouldn't even sniff it. But to be fair, I also have a higher expectation of what a HOFer is and if I had a choice, I'd remove a few guys who are in.
  5. Smile For Me Now How Do U Want It 2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted Hail Mary Changes To Live & Die in LA I Wonder If Heaven Got a Ghetto Keep Ya Head Up What'z Ya Phone Number Until the End of Time It's hard to pick 10. Pac is one of the few people where I can buy their album and never skip over a track.
  6. Hell no. Are the standards to get into the HOF falling this low? No way in hell should Carter be in the HOF. He was a really good player. Really good is not and should not be enough to be in the HOF. In 2001 you may have considered him elite...but one season does not make you a HOF. He was a choker and for the most part just put up stats on bad teams. He missed the playoffs for half his career. The one team he did have success for, he quit on them. He gets traded to NJ and ORL and PHX and is basically just another player for them. For his career, he's basically had just 1 good playoff run and even then he only got to the 2nd round. If we're gonna put VC in the Hall, then we gotta put guys like Marbury, Sprewell, Glen Rice, and Stackhouse in too. Then the Hall of Fame becomes the Hall of the Pretty Good.
  7. With the first pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, the Cleveland Cavaliers select.... Kyrie Irving, point gpuard from Duke.
  8. Nope. It that were true, they wouldn't have needed to fire Del Harris and Kurt Rambis for Jackson. Phil just has this aura where you just respect him because he has rings to back it up. You can't replace him with Lawrence Frank and get the same results. This is true of the current team but they'd be a 1st round exit team instead of the favorites to win it all. I also don't think it would be a given that the Shaq Lakers would make the playoffs minus Kobe. This is mostly out of Shaq's laziness. In 2003 the Lakers were out of the playoffs and it basically took Kobe's superhuman scoring barrage that get them to the 5th seed. As to the original post. Yeah, MVP voting is getting meaningless. Kobe and Shaq, arguably the two best players of the 2000s will have a combined 2 MVPs. I thought Kobe should have 3, Shaq 3, at least 2. Here's the classic example I give to show stupid the MVP voters are. In 2005 when the Lakers missed the playoffs with a 34 win season, Kobe got zero MVP votes. And deservedly so, no way should he have gotten a vote. Yet somehow PJ Brown got an MVP vote...when he averaged 10/9 on an 18 win team. That same year someone left Shaq completely off the ballot when it was pretty much a race between Nash and Shaq.
  9. I've given up guessing on where guys go. I didn't think Redick or Gordon Hayward or Tyler Hansbrough would go Lotto. Didn't think guys like Brian Cook, Ian Mahinmi, or Renaldo Balkman would get drafted, let alone go 1st round. Depending on how weak the draft is, Jimmer should go somewhre mid-first. But probably goes a lot higher. I think he'll have a niche in the league, but he won't be a star. Could be a poor man's Jason Terry.
  10. Not at all. Best way to get better is by playing. On a losing team, young guys usually get minutes and have more freedom to make mistakes than learn from them. On a veteran team, younger players usually just ride the pine and have a shorter leash on them. You can argue that playing for veteran teams can stunt their development. See Darko for example.
  11. Dunno about him being a HOFer. I loved Rodman but I wouldn't put him up there with the elites. But he just paved the way for guys like Mutombo, Mourning, and Ben Wallace to get in.
  12. Dunno about Battier and Collins. They're just good at taking charges. I'm surprised Pierce is so far down the list and CP3 wasn't even on it. These guys act like they get whiplash on the slightest contact offensively.
  13. Who would have thought this possible a week ago? Seven in a row makes me wonder if SA (not that they're losing on purpose) aren't exactly going all out to win just for seeding purposes. Maybe they feel better playing a depleted Hornets team than a Grizzlies team that could give them a hard-fought series. Maybe they want to have the ability to dictate whether they have the 1st or 2nd seed depending on how the Hornets/Grizz do, something that wouldn't have happened if they clinched the 1st seed. Or maybe I'm just looking too much into it and the Spurs are just going through a really rough stretch right now.
  14. Not surprising. The guy was never a good defender. Add age and even less lateral speed and it's doom. A wet spot on the floor plays better defense than Bibby.
  15. True. No matter how good the Mavs are, I've never considered them a threat. You can't win rings when your best player is also the softest. Only bad thing about him getting suspended is Luke gets more minutes. Sigh. So close of getting rid of our past mistakes. Smush, Kwame, Vlad, Farmar, Sasha. Somehow Walton is still around. He's like herpes...can't get rid of him.
  16. Forget making the season shorter, how about making games shorter. How many damn TV timeouts do we need? And how about those painfully long timeouts, half-times, and between quarters during national TV games. I love watching international games because they have a nice flow and are over quick.
  17. There's a difference between tweeners and versatile players. Guys like Odom, Grant Hill, Dirk are versatile. Tweeners are guys that have no set position and more often than not are a liability to have on the floor because of it. PJ Tucker, Alando Tucker, Shawn Respert, Marcus Fizer. Those were tweeners. Tweeners are usually guys at the end of the bench. Some can play a key role in the right situation (Derek Fisher, Eddie House, Ben Gordon). But too often they're out of the league really quick and end up playing overseas where their skills are a better fit.
  18. The one-and-done does hurt. Big or Powerhouse schools will always be able to replace talent even if they only stay a year, but you could argue that there'll be chemistry issues when you're constantly bringing new guys each year and just throw them together. The learning curve could be pretty steep and it may take a year or two to really gel....except players leave before then. I think Butler's greatest strength is their chemisty and leadership from their upperclassmen. In tournament time that's a valuable intangible. Talent wise they may not be as deep as other schools, but their starting 5 is comparable. I also think a lot of players don't want to wait their turn and want to play right away. So instead of waiting two years to start as say UCLA, they go to Oregon and get big minutes right away. Yahoo had a interesting article about this. It used to be that the top players went to UNC, Duke, Kentucky, UConn, Michigan State, Georgetown, Kansas, UCLA and were willing to wait their turn because they knew they would get TV time to impress NBA teams eventually when they turned into starters their Jr. or Sr. year. But with ESPN and cable TV, they're on TV all the time now regardless. So that opens the door for teams that may not be regarded as historic powers like Oregon, Gonzaga, Texas A&M, Florida St, etc. They may not get the 5 star recruits, but they get the next tier of talented players that might stay 3 to 4 years. And yes there is a lack of fundamentals that is hurting the game. Most players now are either about getting all the way to the rack or hitting the three; nothing in between. In AAU there's not as much team work as it is just riding your best player. Which hurts when they get to college and are expected to play without the ball in their hands all the time.
  19. College Hoops 08 on PS3. Been playing that for the past 2 months. Best college basketball game ever. I'm still getting over the fact they discontinued the franchise. It would be great if they brought it back especially with the Create-A-Player option like in NBA2k so you can control one player for his career through March Madness. I have 2k11 lying around as well. I should get on that soon.
  20. I'd like to see the call. Wouldn't put it past Spooner. We've all seen cosmetic calls. The ref knows he blew the call at one end then on the next play calls a quick 3 second call with 21 on the shot clock. It happens. They used to have mics on refs all the time for national tv games, then the NBA cut back on it because it didn't show them in a pleasant light.
  21. If Randolph ever got a consistent jump shot, he'd be a really good player. He has the physical tools to be successful (could stand to hit the weight room) but he's still only 21 so he's has a lot of time to grow. But seriously, his jumper makes Luke Walton look like Ray Allen.
  22. Because people in Orange County has this obsessive feeling about not wanting to be associated with Los Angeles and wants a team of their own. Therefore, the Kings could possibly do well for those transplants from other states/cities that live in the OC and just want to watch a game without having to drive to Staples. I don't think the Lakers will be hurt at all. Could even benefit them by having 45 home games a year. But the Clippers might suffer and go from being the JV team to the freshman/practice squad team.
  23. Private school, he knew what he was getting into so really no room for complaint. I will say, why would he admit it, though? Here's my rule of thumb: Deny til you die. Unless they had video proof, I don't know why he'd admit to it even if he did it. I'm sure there's been plenty of athletes that have laid some pipe during their time there, they just never admitted it. On a side note, what does this do to recruiting at BYU? If I'm an athlete I'd rather go walk on at a school like Sacramento State than go to BYU and deal with their Honor Code.
  24. No contest: Brian Cook. Not only is he the worst defender, but he is the most worthless player in the league if his shot isn't falling. There's a reason he got the nickname Puppy Crap....he's softer than puppy crap. Can't defend, can't block shot, can't board, can't rotate, can't jump, can't run. He's the opposite of a five-tool player. And he always gives you that fake effort, like jumping to block a shot after the ball has already gone through the net. Hands down he's the worst defender in the league and most likely the worst player in the league period.
  25. Pfft. Nick at Nite hasn't been the same since they got rid of Looney Toons. [expletive] Arnold, gimme Bugs Bunny again.
