Sheldon Brown has seemed unhappy for a while. Also, he is at that age where the Eagles never give out extensions. I liked him a lot but nobody should be surprised that he's gone.

That was the best part.

Yeah. The timetable for Lidge and Romero has been mid-April pretty much all along. Lidge got a cortisone shot in his elbow the other day though, which one would assume would set him back. The Phillies, of course, are saying it's nothing, but they lie about literally every injury to a major player. So I'd be pleasantly surprised to see him on the roster before May. As for Romero, I think he threw to minor leaguers the other day and word is that he looked very good. So he may be closer than originally expected. The Blanton thing sort of came out of nowhere the other day. He hurt his oblique in a bullpen session and is now out for 3-6 weeks. So Kyle Kendrick makes the rotation after all...

I enjoyed the trippy Bones commercial that Fox showed during last year's World Series that had this song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1cg811i35g

Holy [expletive]......tonight's episode was a classic. LMFAO

DON'T DO IT!!!! Seriously, "ESPN Insider" is incredibly dumb. If you want real insider info, create a Twitter account and follow the beat writers for your favorite teams. And those guys actually have real worthwhile information, not some BS spewed from some dip[expletive] at ESPN.

I think he absolutely could be an 8th inning guy. He isn't one of those crafty, fringe middle-relievers who relies more on luck than skill. He definitely isn't the power pitcher he used to be, but he still has a fastball that hits 95 regularly combined with a nasty cutter. But I agree, I wouldn't put him in the 8th inning either. That would limit the other ways he is able to contribute.

Well, after they moved him to the bullpen he posted a 2-and-a-half ERA with almost 10 K/9. That's a solid line no matter who's bullpen you are pitching out of haha. Not to mention the fact that he's a great swing man and can be good in just about any role the team wants to use him in (except starting lol). I think you are confusing Chan Ho Park the starter with Chan Ho Park the reliever. Ever since he became a full-time reliever with the Dodgers in 2008, he has had the best success of his career. Coincidence? After 2 full solid years I doubt it. Some guys are just better suited to pitch in relief than start.

Park is more than just an impressive spring. He was the Phillies best reliever last year by far once they put him in the bullpen and he was very good with the Dodgers the year before.
-
I think the Yankees would be making a mistake by giving Chan Ho Park a defined role. He's so valuable because he can do so many things. He definitely has the "stuff" to pitch the 8th or 9th, but he can also come in in the 5th or 6th and go multiple innings. That's what made him so good with the Phillies last year.

MLB exploring having two teams hold spring training in Italy
Phightins replied to Sportsguy9695's topic in Baseball Forum
I don't think they are considering having anybody hold spring training in Italy, but they would just send a couple teams over there for a game or 2. The article is kind of unclear about that, though, but it would be 100% impossible for an organization to hold an entire spring training over there, and it would be unfair as well. These teams all have their headquarters in their Florida/Arizona cities, which are essentially the team's second homes. They have all of their facilities and minor league complexes down there, so I don't think it's feasible to just move all Spring Training operations to another country. I am sure they are considering sending a couple teams over there for a spring exhibition game or two though, and that would be really cool. But whoever wrote that article needs to be way more clear. EDIT: Missed the line in the article saying it would probably be for a week. I guess that could work. -
I commute to school and I hate it, but I also think I'd hate living there. I just hate many aspects of college altogether. The point is everyone has a different opinion and wants to do their own thing, so just do what you feel most comfortable doing.

I am fed up with this league, honestly. 2 game suspension for Dan Carcillo for a play that doesn't even get looked at twice by the league if it's any other player. But he has a rep so he gets the suspension... I just really don't get it. Matt Cooke and Anton Volchenkov were guilty in two of the dirtiest plays I have seen all season, yet they don't get a second of penalty time much less a suspension. Dan Carcillo's stick inadvertently hits David Clarkson's face in a scrum and he gets 2 games. Seriously unbelievable. If you watch the video, it's clear his hands were forced up in the air which caused his stick to follow.

Jamie Moyer is the 5th starter. Kyle Kendrick makes the team too in some type of relief role so it looks like the roster is set for now.

Well, I certainly hope this is true (not necessarily about Halak or Price specifically, but about changing their business plan and finding a young "franchise goalie" to build around. This roster has a lot of talent as currently constructed but is incredibly flawed. I don't know if I can even pin the blame on Paul Holmgren, since this has been a problem for years. GMs have been fired and made out as scapegoats for this many times before, but it's pretty obvious it's an organization problem. They need to build from the goalie out, not the other way around like they've tried to do for the past 20 years or so. As a result we get bad mixes like we have now. A decent amount of very skilled (yet very expensive) forwards, 2 elite defenseman and a huge drop off from there, and an absolute mess in goal. They tried building from the forwards in, and as a result have overpaid for almost all of them and are tight against the cap. They have almost no secondary scoring, and way too many grit/energy guys. I love Ian Laperriere, Arron Asham, Blair Betts, Dan Carcillo, and Darroll Powe, and I think they all have a place on a good hockey team, but the Flyers have way too many guys of that mold and not nearly enough secondary scorers. The overall philosophy of this organization is horrible and it seems like we go through this every season as a result.

I find that in Yahoo leagues, lots of good pitchers make it down to the later rounds since people rely only on the Yahoo rankings, which most of the time are terrible. So I think my strategy of avoiding pitchers until late paid off pretty well.

Barack Obama will be throwing out the first pitch on Phillies opening day @ the Nationals. Pretty cool.

I use Safari and it happens to me too, just not as severe as it sounds like it is for you. It freezes up for 4-5 seconds as soon as I scroll by the avatar, but then it's fine after that.

10-team league drafted last night.... C: Geovany Soto 1B: Kendry Morales 2B: Robinson Cano 3B: Aramis Ramirez SS: Troy Tulowitzki OF: Ryan Braun OF: Ichiro Suzuki OF: Nick Markakis Util: David Ortiz Util: Hunter Pence Util: Clint Barmes BN: Adrian Beltre SP: Javier Vazquez SP: Josh Beckett SP: Chad Billingsley SP: Jered Weaver SP: Matt Garza SP: Randy Wolf SP Johnny Cueto RP: Jose Valverde RP: Trevor Hoffman I'm pretty satisfied with it. Some guy in the league took Lincecum, Halladay, and Sabathia with his top 3 picks. I, meanwhile, didn't draft a pitcher until round 8 and I think my staff isn't half bad.
