Winter winners: M's, Phillies, Cubs top list of movers
Phightins replied to Warren2ThaG's topic in Baseball Forum
The Halladay contract is an absolute bargain, IMO. 3 years and $60 million for arguably the best pitcher of the last decade is a steal. It is more the length than the actual salary that makes this contract so great. When Cliff Lee gets 6 or 7 years at the same annual salary next winter, you will see what I'm talking about. -
Word is that Jeff Carter will be named to Canada's olympic team if Ryan Getzlaf can't play. Pretty weird to think that Jeff Carter and Mike Richards could theoretically be linemates....on the 4th line. Obviously losing Getzlaf will suck for them but that roster is loaded. Also Paul Holmgren has scheduled a press conference for later today to "discuss Ray Emery's hip injury". Emery was supposed to skate this morning and didn't. Put two and two together and it does not look good. [expletive].

Pitchers and catchers in 8 days, and it cannot come soon enough. http://media.philly.com/images/cbpsnow.jpg

I do not understand how this team can play so well against arguably the best team in the East, yet get owned by the Oilers and Wild. Oh well, that's the beauty of the NHL I guess. Now the interesting question is if Carter gets suspended.

I heard Bob Gainey is stepping down as GM.

Unfortunately, most of the really good modern bands are not nearly popular enough to get a Super Bowl gig. That's why they keep trotting out the old bands, because they have a good reputation and a huge following. Obviously none of these guys are in their prime anymore, but they are still a hell of a lot better than the alternatives. -

Bruce was my favorite of all of them, haha. -

I've liked all of them except for Prince. But that was still a good show, he just isn't my favorite. I loved Bruce last year . -

Yeah, who honestly didn't think Peyton was going to bring the Colts right down the field after the way this half started? -
Lmao. "Timmy what are you doing??". Best part of any commercial yet.

I know. Moon and Entwistle were my 2 favorite members of The Who by far, sucks that they couldn't still be around haha. Still was pretty good though. And wow, Sean Payton has balls. -

You guys are insane. The Who are about 30 years past their prime but I'd still rather listen to them than most of the garbage you guys want to hear. I say it every year, the "wardrobe malfunction" was the greatest thing to ever happen to the half time show. Since then, every year we have gotten acts that have actually contributed something to music. -

I was just going to post about this game. Also, check this out, for those who didn't see it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0MQLmceKVw&feature=player_embedded Also, the NBC guys were talking about how Ovechkin/Crosby is as good, if not better than Magic/Bird was, and as much as I cannot stand Sidney Crosby I agree completely. This is great stuff to watch, it's a shame the NHL is so irrelevant in many parts of the USA because these games are awesome to watch.

Well, they will need to figure something out in the next few years. He is their franchise and is a once in a lifetime type hitter.
-
He will still get a very long contract. And I agree with Fish. I also think it's insane that the Twins haven't found a new position for him yet. With every season he catches 140 games, he is knocking serious time off his career. And I really don't think a really long contract such as 10 years is insane, if it is structured right. It's way more common in hockey because if the tight salary cap restrictions, but even in baseball you can make it work.

Pathetic road trip. 3 teams with all kinds of problems, seemed like a gift for the Flyers since they need points so bad. To only get 2 points out of this road trip is just horrible. This offense is so painfully inconsistent.
-
The Flyers traded OK Tollefsen to the Red Wings for Ville Leino. Not really sure where Leino fits onto the roster so I am guessing another trade is coming. Also, Ray Emery's hip is bothering him again and he is not playing again tonight. [expletive]. At least Leighton has been just as lights out as Razor recently, but still we need him to be "the guy" down the stretch. I guess the Olympic break coming soon is a good thing. Another note on Emery...I read the other day that the Flyers have had preliminary conversations with Emery's agent about a contract extension. He is without a doubt the most talented goalie the Flyers have had since Ron Hextall, and he has behaved himself all season, so I certainly hope this gets done.

Brian Burke's son died in a car crash today. Sad.
-
Well, they had no choice but to trade him. He turned down a 12 year $101 million contract, and for obvious reasons the Thrashers (and pretty much any other NHL team under this tight salary cap, if they desire to have a half decent team around him) could not afford to go higher. And if they would have held onto him, they would have gotten stuck in the situation Florida had last year with Jay Bouwmeester. I really don't think what the Thrashers got was that terrible actually, considering all the circumstances. When you look at the trade on paper it seems like a rip off, but since there's a good chance he is a 1 year rental that was probably the max they could have gotten. I'm just surprised the Thrashers agreed to take Patrice Cormier, haha.

Big Trade for Philly in the works?
Phightins replied to Smitty's topic in Philadelphia 76ers Team Forum
Apparently the Iguodala/Dalembert for Stoudemire talks are gaining a lot of momentum and Phoenix really wants Dre. http://www.csnphilly.com/pages/landing_09?Hot-Commodity-Suns-Showing-Interest-in-I=1&blockID=175381&feedID=704 -
Maybe this was the best the Thrashers could do when word came out that he turned down 12 years and $101 mil, and that essentially there's a good chance he'd be a half-season rental. But knowing that this deal went down makes me even more upset that the Flyers don't have a first round pick, haha. Well of course the reason we don't have a first is because of the Pronger deal which obviously I can't complain about, but had the Flyers owned a first round pick they absolutely could have topped the Devils deal. Fitting him under the cap would have been another issue but as far as talent in the trade they could have topped this. Oh well. With that said, I am picturing a Parise/Zajac/Kovalchuk line and am having nightmares already.
-
Wow....I cannot believe the Devils basically stole Kovalchuk. They BETTER not resign him.
-
Sounds like he will be going to the Devs. Just plan their parade route now. Wonder what is going back to Atlanta though.
