I, for one, will not be watching the Pro Bowl, nor do I care in the least who is on the roster. Cool honor I for the players I guess, but the Pro Bowl might be the stupidest event in pro sports.
-
Lets not forget about his horrendous defense. He should have fun in that massive left field. But seriously, this is a huge upgrade for the Mets, but to expect them to contend now is kind of silly. Their roster still has a lot of holes. But yeah, compared to Murphy/Evans/Sheffield/whatever else they used last year, Jason Bay is clearly a huge upgrade. But he will not come close to matching what he did last year, or even his better years in Pittsburgh.
-
Pretty surprised he is only taking 4 years. His numbers will drop off, I think that is all but guaranteed, so this may be his final big contract. Would have thought he'd demand a lot more from the Mets. With that said, this is clearly an upgrade over the [expletive]-show the Mets were running out there last year.

Obviously the bye and playoff home game would be nice, but I am confident in the Eagles this postseason no matter what the situation is. With that said, nothing feels better as an Eagles fan than whooping some Cowboy [expletive], and to do it in that disgrace of a stadium in front of their fans would be so much sweeter. I am excited.

Philadelphia @ Portland

Didn't see that coming. -
4 days til the Winter Classic!

Unless the Mets overpay, no hitter in their right mind would want to go there.

Funniest Signs You Have Seen At A Game
Phightins replied to EastCoastNiner's topic in Other Sports Discussion
Haven't seen any that good. But Phillies fans used to have fan groups for pretty much every player on the roster, and when David Dellucci was on the Phillies his was "The Delluche Bags" and they had a really funny sign (I can't find a pic). That is the best one I have personally seen. Also there were some good ones at Brett Myers's first home start following his wife beating incident. The guy I went to that game with wore a wife beater with "Phillies" on the front, and "OJ 39" on the back. Security almost dragged him out in handcuffs since he didn't want to take it off. -
Bay hasn't signed with the Mets for the same reason Holliday won't (unless they ridiculously overpay). Nobody wants to go there.
-
Same reason he has missed the last 3 games. He has arthritis. Should be back for the Portland game.
-
Let me and fly3rs know before you come, seriously.
-
ECN...Flyers/Bruins on March 11th. You should join me. Or the Phillies/Red Sox series this summer.
-
Well it isn't "done" yet since he has not taken his physical but yes I saw you post that. Pretty cool that you know him. I am hoping they can get MacDougal in here as well. He is the ultimate low risk high reward guy. IMO could be a very high reward.
-
But then again, the Phillies are bringing in Danys Baez and/or Mike MacDougal and will most likely give them important roles. Relief market is kind of thin this year and mediocre guys are getting top dollar, so I guess it calls for some creativity.
-
He is awful. I like how he waited until the other night, almost 30 games into the season, to mention how horrible the defense is and how it is bothering him. Really? I could have told you that 5 games in.
-
Seems like wishful thinking to expect him to be a good set up man right away, I'd think. 33 years old, has been a starter the majority of his career, and has appeared in one game since 2007. Seems unlikely that he'd be able to pitch in 70-80 games. I think he could be a potentially nice pick up, low risk high reward, but to expect him to be the regular set up man right away is what seems weird to me.

Post What You Got For Christmas!
Phightins replied to trutrojan8's topic in Off-Topic Discussion Forum
Nothing too big. Clothes, a couple DVDs, new headphones, some stuff for my car, and Flyers tickets. -
Merry Christmas!

As do 90% of Philadelphia fans, which is the part you can't seem to grasp. Anyway, this debate has gone on at least 5 times on OTR and is just flat out dumb now.
-
Seems like the games near the top of the list are the most recent, and they gradually get older and older. Not sure if that's a coincidence, but it seemed like they gave an edge to the games freshest on their memories.

http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/20091224_Rumor_enrages_Hartnell_and_Carter.html Figured it was a matter of time until the team said something about this.
-
The Phillies have agreed to terms with a "mystery reliever". Most think it is either Danys Baez or Mike MacDougal. I hope it's MacDougal, the dude has a ton of ability and I've always thought he could be amazing if paired with the right pitching coach. I have a feeling it's Baez though. Also, Mark DeRosa is leaning towards signing with the Giants, and Justin Duchscherer is re-signing with the A's. I thought the Phillies might be interested in Duchscherer but I guess not.
-
Yeah this was sick. If you have the chance to see it in IMAX, definitely go for it, well worth the extra couple dollars for the ticket. And yeah, I half-expected the story to suck and for it to rely on the cool effects to pull it through, but the plot was really good. Definitely a bit predictable and cheesy towards the end but no complaints from me.
-
For once I agree with you. I'd rather be a Philadelphia fan classified as a scum bag than a Miami fan classified as somebody who doesn't care about their teams or doesn't show up to the games. Yeah Flash, those big stereotypes feel nice don't they?
-
Philadelphia fans are passionate, yes. There are a handful of idiots who do stupid [expletive] like this and continue to give the media and internet know-it-alls more reason to talk down to us and trash us, yes. You put 20,000-80,000 people in one building and there are bound to be a handful of numbskulls, and that goes for any situation. Fact: Philadelphia fans are no better/worse than fans of other big time sports markets in terms of behavior. Don't believe me? Well, get off your asses and go experience games in Philadelphia, then New York, Boston, or Chicago instead of just believing everything ESPN feeds you. You may be surprised!
