Apparently Taschner will be the only call-up for now. Charlie and Amaro want to wait for the minor league seasons to end before calling up anybody else. I heard that Anthony Gose (last year's 2nd round pick) might get called up despite never playing above low-A ball. He stole 75 bases in 125 games this season. One thing this team is lacking right now is a designated-pinch runner (last two seasons we have had Michael Bourn and Greg Golson) so it wouldn't be the worst thing. The kid is only 19 too so it'd be a cool chance for him.

Jack Taschner was recalled today, the first of the September call-ups. A pretty obvious one, since until now Eyre has been the only lefty in the pen and Romero may be out for the season.

Alright, revised pitching matchups: Tomorrow: Cole Hamels vs. Jonathan Sanchez Wednesday: JA Happ vs. Brad Penny Thursday: Pedro Martinez vs. Tim Lincecum I don't think the Giants have officially announced that Penny is pitching on Wednesday but it's looking like he will.

Well when you consider money Morales is the obvious choice. He would be the obvious choice for almost anybody besides the Yankees. Also, I have actually had him in a fantasy GM mogul league for a couple years now. Even though that is all fictional, just thought you'd like to know that I am currently in the 2023 season and Kendry Morales is headed to the hall of fame haha.
-
Where did I say that the Angels are a small market team? I said that if money were no issue, I would still take Teixeira, despite how awesome Morales has been as of late. However, since you posed the question "considering their contracts and everything else which guy would you rather have", I said that if I were a small market team and could not just throw away money left and right, clearly I'd take Morales who is the cheaper option for now. Anyway, you then you went on to say "lets see who is smart", which kind of implies that you'd call anybody who'd prefer Teixeira dumb.

I too have my doubts about putting him at first base every day, but that team really could use some more pop in the middle of the lineup. Bringing in a future hall of famer with 25 homeruns to ride the bench makes very little sense.

On MLB Network right now they are thinking that Thome may take Loney's job for the time being.
-
Per Jon Heyman's twitter. No word yet on what they give to Arizona and Chicago. Anyway, Garland I understand, but Thome? Wtf?
-
What reason is there to post this, other than to see other members of this board ride an Angels players dick, or to call anyone who disagrees an idiot? Anyway, if money is no issue and they are both healthy, I take Teixeira. Considering their current salaries, obviously if I were a smaller market I would rather have Morales. Ask this again in five years when Morales is making 8 figures and playing for the Yankees or Red Sox.

Ugh, looks like Lincecum's start is getting pushed back a day, meaning he won't pitch the game I'm at. Gay.

Look, I am not here to participate in the [expletive]-talking, but if you really want to piss off a Phillies fan, going back to a series two years is not going to do it lol. Really does not accomplish anything, especially when we have this... http://iammattfried.files.wordpress.com/2009/04/phillies_world_series_ring_baseballsffembeddedprod_affiliate138.jpg Anywho, carry on.

Good signing, I think. He should be a good fit there.
-
I am going to the Happ/Lincecum matchup on Wednesday (in like the 5th row too). Should be awesome.

2 of 3 from Atlanta and an 8 game lead in the division heading into September. Pretty solid shape, I'd say. The offense is still not hitting on all cylinders, but a series win against a team chasing us is a good thing no matter how you spin it. Matchups for Giants series: Tuesday: Cole Hamels vs. Jonathan Sanchez Wednesday: JA Happ vs. Tim Lincecum Thursday: Pedro Martinez vs. Barry Zito Will be a tough week.

I vote no banner as well. Music is so undefinable. Picking two or three people to represent "music" as a whole is just really dumb when you think about it.
-
This is pointless to argue over because no matter who or what is put up there, people will be pissed off. I just find it funny because we are talking about a music forum and most of the "artists" you guys are arguing over are hardly musicians.

I don't think too many guys on the Phillies do it. I know Raul Ibanez does every game, and Pat Burrell used to (must be something about left field). But yeah I liked the story about how Francona asked Junichi Tazawa to get him a new tin from his office during the game and Tazawa didn't know what he was talking about haha.
-
A lot of them still do, but thankfully not as many as there used to be.

Because if you get your arm all warmed up and ready for the game, then just sit around idle for an hour, then try to get it loosened up again, that's how you [expletive] up your shoulder and your elbow. Remember, these guys are not just lobbing the ball out there, the abuse they put on their arms is crazy. Just look at Josh Johnson of the Marlins. Two years ago, the Marlins manager at the time (Joe Girardi) left him in the game after a long rain delay, and Johnson wound up blowing out his elbow and needing Tommy John surgery. That actually lost Girardi his job, lots of people say. Anyway, I do not know all the technical stuff, but it is very dangerous, especially for an older guy like Pedro. Even younger guys too, as evident with Johnson, and the fact that Bobby Cox did not want to risk it and pulled Tommy Hanson from the game. But, the bottom line is, pitching arms are hands down the most fragile body part in any professional sport. There was an article in Sports Illustrated a year or two ago about pitching mechanics, and what these guys put their arms through while pitching is just scary.

He embraces the reputation.

Nope the franchise has been around for 40 years (and they have always been this bad with the exception of four or five decent years).
-
AL to NL....easy transition for a pitcher with any ounce of talent. And lets not get carried away with Smoltz yet. He has beaten the Padres and Nationals, arguably the two worst teams in the NL. I still think he's a solid pickup though. Also, I think Penny would be great in San Francisco.
-
I was thinking Miami as well. The Marlins are always competitive, but the fact that the team needs to have a firesale once every 5 years just for the sole fact that fans do not show up to the games brings their rating down. Also, as with most southern cities, hockey does not go well in South Florida. The Panthers have struggled too. Honestly I do not remember what Heat games were like before the championship, but I can't imagine that fans would have shown up if not for Wade/Shaq. So, I guess they have the Dolphins but not much more.
-
Well, is this current or all time? If it is current, Philly has three very competitive teams, and the Sixers are, well, the Sixers, but there are worse cities. It's been like this for about the past decade as well. In the 90s I would have agreed but we have turned the corner.

Wrong sport, although Lidge looks like he'd make a pretty good defenseman!
