I don't think "weird" even begins to describe this game. But a win is a win.

I think if anything, Terry Francona is the perfect example of "a manager is only as good as his players". When he was in Philadelphia he was an "idiot" and now in Boston he is a "genius". Well, he just so happens to be blessed with an awesome roster in Boston and he had maybe the worst roster in baseball when he was in Philadelphia.

Dude if you really believe Cain hit Wright on purpose you are an idiot. Tie game, runner on base already with nobody out and 2 strikes on Wright. Not to mention Santana was opposing him so runs were at a premium. Not to mention you could just see how shook up Cain looked. Sucks that your man crush got hurt but it was not intentional at all.

Actually has the opposite effect on me.

Key words and phrases... "Highly unlikely" "McNabb joked" "Eagles PR people confirmed that McNabb has not pushed for Burress" Why is this even a story?
-
I have lost all respect for him because as you said, he clearly waited this out to avoid camp. Also just three weeks ago he said there was no chance of a return because he didn't feel his body could handle that. Well I'll be damned, Brett... But yeah you are right the ESPN coverage makes this even worse than it should be. My favorite is the countdown clock on the bottom of ESPN News (including hours minutes and seconds) until the press conference. Give me a break. I am personally hoping that this blows up in everybody's face.

I finally have a good excuse to not turn on ESPN for a week.

I thought the suspenders were hot. That room was hot as balls too, notice all the sweat.

That "classless piece of [expletive]" Matt Cain chatted with David Wright before the game today and made sure he was alright and shook his hand. Very classless.

Got it done at the deadline...$15 mil signing bonus.

I was praying that I could find reasonably priced tickets for Wednesday on StubHub and then get a group to go...that would be so awesome and it is the best pitching matchup the Phillies have been involved in all year. But as for you trying to steal my tickets... http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/7371/roflbotjzfbweiserihhh.jpg Who is this manly man?

Haha I was thinking about that.

5-1 road trip (should have been 6-0) against two pretty good teams...I will take it. The schedule looks pretty easy for the next 10 games (D-Backs, Mets, Pirates), but it goes without saying that in baseball you never know what can happen. D-Backs series matchups: Tuesday: Pedro Martinez vs. Jon Garland Wednesday: Cliff Lee vs. Dan Haren (!!!) Thursday: Joe Blanton vs. Doug Davis I am going on Tuesday and wish I was going on Wednesday.

Utley's Wife Among Those Barred From Vick Press Conference
Phightins replied to xx.'s topic in NFC Conference Discussion
Why is this a surprise to people....the PSPCA has been Chase Utleys' primary charity since he has been here and his wife is very involved in it. I was actually wondering how they would react to it. -
It is really easy to blame Lidge because of how horrible he has been this year, but today for a change his pitching was not the reason they lost. It was his errors combined with Utley's (well primarily Utley's, because that set up the bunt situation), and the offense's lack of hitting with RISP which was responsible for it being a 1 run game instead of a 3 or 4 run game. But I would like to see how many one run saves Brad Lidge has blown this season when the leadoff man has gotten on base. I'd be willing to bet he has blown the majority of them. He cannot hold runners on base and cannot field his position (especially bunts), so it is an automatic man in scoring position with less than 2 outs. Obviously, today the leadoff man got on because Chase Utley could not make a play that was albeit difficult but one he usually makes, and then Lidge predictably [expletive]ed up fielding the bunt. To compound the issue and actually lose the game, he tried making a play anyway and threw the ball up the right field line, which allowed the tying run to score and the go-ahead run to get to 3rd. From there it was the standard intentional walk and pitch around to load the bases and create a force at every base. Lidge actually handled this decently getting Ryan Church to strike out, and Martin Prado to hit a ground ball that is easily an out and likely a double play if the infield is not drawn all the way in. Needless to say, it is easy to bat against Brad Lidge if it is a one-run lead going into the 9th....get the leadoff man on and it's almost a guaranteed tie game. Lidge actually pitched about as well as he has pitched in weeks today (slider was sharp and he kept his fastball down...everything Atlanta hit was on the ground and should have been an out), and that is the reason I will not choose today to call for his head. I wanted him out of the closers role after Tuesday's blown save, but he has had back to back days of not getting hit hard so I can't be too pissed for that. Lost today because of his mental error and the Phillies lack of hitting with runners in scoring position.

Miroslav Satan wants to be a New York Islander

Okay. -
I will still take Albert Pujols as the best "hitta" in baseball, but Joe Mauer is probably 2nd, or 3rd at worst. Also, maybe our Minnesota fans can shed some light, but how long until they change his position? He will lose so many at-bats and probably years of his career if he continues catching. I am surprised it hasn't been done yet.

BREAKING NEWS: Michael Vick signs with Eagles
Phightins replied to CaliCurbStomppa's topic in NFC Conference Discussion
I cannot believe what this argument has turned into. Michael Vick did absolutely despicable things...things that words cannot even describe. Is that even really up for argument? What is the point to comparing it to other sick demented things? He went to jail and got what he deserved. Hopefully it changed him. He says it has, and hopefully that is the truth. Does not change the [expletive]ed up things he has done. I will not support him as a human being until he can genuinely prove that he is changed, but I will support him as a football player. -

BREAKING NEWS: Michael Vick signs with Eagles
Phightins replied to CaliCurbStomppa's topic in NFC Conference Discussion
Haha....for the first time in a few weeks I agree 100%. I despise what Michael Vick did, and as a dog owner myself I hate the fact that he is on the team. But as a football fan and an Eagles fan I am willing to forget about all that for 3 hours every Sunday and see what he can do. -
BREAKING NEWS: Michael Vick signs with Eagles

Me and Matt listened to Andy's press conference on the drive home. I will give him props, he really did his homework. I have never heard Andy disclose so much information to the media, ever. It was impressive. Also, sounds like Donovan is more than on board with it, he told them to get the deal done. -
BREAKING NEWS: Michael Vick signs with Eagles

Haha....me and Diesel were at the game. When this went down literally everybody got texts at exactly the same time and everybody thought it was a practical joke. It was kinda funny to see. The dude next to me told me it was legit but I still called bull[expletive], so I looked at ESPN on my phone to find out it was true. Also, I forget who said earlier that the Eagles fans will let him have it (I think ECN). I was actually hoping that they would post some sort of announcement at the game just so I could see the fan response. Of course they didn't, but there was one guy with a Vick Falcons jersey and when he made his presence known, everyone gave him a standing ovation. Also, on some Eagles radio talk show some guy called in and made a good point. He said that it seems like most female Eagles fans are appalled and most male Eagles fans are just thinking about how he fits into the playbook. So true haha. -
Cubs Fan Throws Beer at Shane Shane Victorino at Wrigley Field
Phightins replied to The Goods's topic in Baseball Forum
You have absolutely no point, in either statement. They are both American citizens, who gives a [expletive] how much money they make? Shane is not in this for money either, I do not know where you came up with that one. -
Cubs Fan Throws Beer at Shane Shane Victorino at Wrigley Field
Phightins replied to The Goods's topic in Baseball Forum
Exactly. Does the fact that Shane Victorino is a professional athlete change that he is a human being, and an American citizen? He has the same rights as the douchebag golddigging fans who file complaints against athletes for doing way less than what this particular fan did. -
Cubs Fan Throws Beer at Shane Shane Victorino at Wrigley Field
Phightins replied to The Goods's topic in Baseball Forum
The main reason is because they want to find the guy (the Cubs in particular) to make sure that he never attends a game again. Remember, at first they arrested the wrong guy yesterday, and in the middle of that whole mixup the guy who actually did it got away. So he is "at large" right now. Vic does not want the guy to get in a lot of trouble or anything, but as he put it he "wants him to know that what he did was wrong". Something tells me that the Cubs or the city of Chicago pressured him into filing the complaint, because last night Shane was just laughing about it and saying he thought the dude's aim was impressive. Needless to say, you have no clue about the situation at all so stop talking out of your [expletive].
