How often do they happen in the ninth inning to preserve a perfect game? Do you see those on Baseball Tonight every night?
-
Except it was. What is not spectacular about a "great catch that saves a perfect game"? To me, that is the definition of spectacular.
-
If this were just some "no name making a good catch in center field", I don't think it would be the topic of media attention everywhere, and fan discussions all over the internet. It is not about the actual physical "play", but the situation.
-
The situation is what made that catch amazing, or "play of the year" material as suggested. It was an outstanding homerun-robbing catch in arguably one of the two or three biggest pressure situations possible in a baseball game.
-
It was in the ninth inning of a perfect game.....end of story. Why do you always feel the need to stir the pot? If you really want to argue this more you will get destroyed.
-
It was unbelievable, and you are blind if you think otherwise. Then again, I wouldn't put it past you to post something like that. That would probably be the top play on Sports Center if the White Sox were down 10-0 in the 5th inning of a meaningless game. It just so happened to save a perfect game....

Chad Durbin and JC Romero placed on the 15 day DL. Andrew Carpenter and Tyler Walker called up from Lehigh Valley. I really have a feeling a trade is coming, because there is absolutely no reason for Carpenter to be called up and placed in the bullpen, and for Escalona or Taschner to stay in AAA when we desperately need another lefty now.
-
That was awesome to see. Amazing that Buehrle has a no hitter, and now a perfect game to his name. You don't expect that out of a crafty lefty who doesn't blow hitters away. Anyway, it was awesome to see, and Dewayne Wise made one of the best catches I have ever seen with 0 outs in the 9th to preserve it. Once that happened, it was pretty clear that something special was happening.

And until you see legitimate evidence of a positive drug test, you cannot honestly look at those numbers and say "he absolutely used steroids". These steroid allegations flying around the media/with the fans is probably what I dislike the most about baseball right now.
-
Obviously there will always be the people like you who assume that numbers like that are a result of steroids. They very well could be, but unless it is proven there is no purpose to argue over it. Baseball is a funny game and statistical anomalies like that do happen. It is very convenient to say "oh he MUST have been doing something illegal", but it gets annoying as hell when every statistical spike nowadays gets attributed to steroids by the fans/media. That is the age in which we live though, unfortunately.

They watched Cliff Lee pitch last night.

First of all, don't even bring up the steroid thing. Other than a few cases it is impossible to prove with anybody, so bringing it up in an argument like this does absolutely nothing except show that you are grasping for anything to help your case. I do not think anybody here could honestly tell you that Todd Helton is not a very good Major League player, however even the most blindly biased Rockies fans should be able to see the impact Coors Field had on his career. You don't just hit 65 points higher at home than on the road by accident. So, very good player, yes, elite player, no. Even disregarding the home/road splits his numbers are very good, but you need to consider that when comparing him with the all time greats.
-
I guess your sarcasm detector is a bit off. Anywho, Helton is a very good player who has had a very good career, but as ECN said, he benefited GREATLY from playing at Coors. Coors is a doubles paradise. He clearly can hit no matter where he plays, but the park factor definitely has helped him.
-
No they all sucked. None could sniff Helton's jock strap, duh.

Could have gone to that game....didn't feel like waking up early and dealing with the train, etc.
-
Bullpen. No way he gets his arm strong enough to join the rotation...not that he'd be needed there. But if they could get him back and throw him in the back of the bullpen, that would be an awesome addition. I know they have expressed interest in adding another arm to the pen (I've heard Chad Qualls mentioned but he will be way too expensive IMO). I just hope they don't count on getting an effective Myers back and let that alter what they do before the trade deadline. There is no knowing what we'll get out of him coming off that hip injury. If they think they need another reliever they should still try to trade for one, although the bullpen has been dynamite lately anyway.
-
Doubt it. They already have enough guys in the organization who will give them Brad Penny-ish production (Pedro Martinez, Rodrigo Lopez, Kyle Kendrick, Antonio Bastardo, etc etc). I don't see them trading for a starting pitcher unless it is a top of the rotation guy. And this isn't just a fan giving his 2 cents, Amaro has come out and essentially said this. The Penny rumor was hot back in May but I seriously doubt it anymore.
-
It will take him a couple weeks to get ready. He is has thrown 1 or 2 bullpen sessions already, and a couple simulated games, and he will begin pitching in live games every 5 days with our single-A team on Friday I believe, and when he feels he is ready he will join the MLB team. I am hearing that he is aiming for the first week of August for that to happen.

That was an awesome game last night....fly3rs and I were there. Seriously, couldn't beat it. Great pitchers duel, 13 innings, walk off drama. As good as it gets in my book.

Nah the Jo Bros can take her down.

Not to sound like a dick but I probably have you beat . I have studied music for basically my whole life, and have even attended a music school aimed towards 60s and 70s classic rock.

All you rap fans can thank Bob Dylan for laying the groundwork.

I do expect the Yankees to move the walls back, at least the RF wall. The Phillies had a similar problem the first year at CBP, and after that first year they moved back the left field wall a bit. The stadium is still undoubtedly a homerun-hitters park, but it is not as much of an issue as it once was, and it is not a complete hell for pitchers anymore.
