Dontrelle Willis released. Damn, I was really hoping this one would work out. I still think he has value for a team with a savvy manager. Also, the only real roster drama this year is for the 5th outfield spot, which appears to be a battle between Juan Pierre and Scott Podsednik. I will put my money on Podsednik, for no reason other than the fact that the Pierre is the 3rd 2003 Marlin to be a Phillie in the past 2 spring trainings, and the previous two were cut (Willis and Luis Castillo).

Ilya sets the Flyers shutout minutes streak (and breaks his personal record from the playoffs with the Ducks a few years back). It's pretty amazing how great the rest of the team plays when Bryz plays well. Can't wait to see what happens when Meszaros and van Riemsdyk get back. Hopefully everyone can stay healthy at that point.

Why are you taking this out on Leafs fans? Seems to me like most of them are very frustrated with Burke.

Lol pretty impressive double post. We had to have been within milliseconds of each other. But yes, this surprises me, and it doesn't surprise me at the same time. I had heard rumblings in the past week that the Sixers were working on a minor deal for a swingman. So I guess Young is that guy. You'd think they'd be going after another competent big, though. Yes Hawes is back, but he is only playing 5 minutes per quarter and no back to backs (for the foreseeable future). Vucevic has regressed big time, or at least "hit the rookie wall". There is definitely a need there. Maybe this is leading up to something bigger? Perhaps there is a bigger deal on the horizon that involves shipping out one of the current rotation guys, so they needed more depth. Who knows

Probably free agency if I had to guess. I really want Luke Kuechly, but he will probably be off the board long before the Eagles get to pick.

Few newsworthy items today... Winston Justice traded to the Colts (well, basically given to the Colts) and Jamaal Jackson released. Mostly sad because these seem like two really cool dudes, but obviously this is the right football decision to make. Sounds like Justice would have eventually been released had he not been traded. Saves a few million dollars against the cap.

This is.....weird. On both ends.

This game tonight is huge. Can't really afford to get swept in a home-and-home by the Devils. Unless the goal is the 6 seed (which may actually be ideal now, especially with Crosby coming back). However, the most important thing this team can do is play well going into the playoffs. Not really too concerned about seeding, since one way or the other. We will need to go through Pittsburgh/Boston/New York to get through the East.

Absolute joke. If I am Van Gundy or Smith, and this is true, I am quitting today.

Yeah preseason record is pretty useless since such a weird combination of guys are used in the games. Guys who will contribute this year, guys who will contribute in 3 years, AAA fodder fighting for the 25th roster spot, etc. With this said, you guys definitely have a lot to look forward to. Not sure if your "big jump" will be this season, but it is looking awfully strong for 2013 and beyond though. I love how patient Anthopoulos has been. The Jays could easily spend as much money (and perhaps more) than any other team in baseball, yet he is holding back for now. When your current batch of studly prospects (obviously you have a handful of them) are ready to contribute in the Majors, I am expecting some free agency splurging. All about waiting for the right time though so you don't get locked into bad contracts during a transition period.

I missed all but 10 minutes or so of this, but it's obviously nice to see Evan keep rolling. Has to be one of the top rebounding guards in the league, no? Not sure I expect his scoring to keep up at quite this pace, but it shouldn't matter.

I see you Bryz. And G with one of the filthiest shootout goals I have ever seen. Wow.
