I am really impressed with the Sixers new owners thus far. They are attempting to completely change the culture. Lots of cool ticket promotions (for example, all upper level seats for the month of January are $17.76 or less, no online ticket fees), getting rid of the stupid Hip-Hop mascot, etc. They are also getting a new PA announcer. I like Matt Cord (the former PA guy) a lot, mostly because he is a DJ on my favorite radio station, so I feel bad for him, but I do like how the new ownership group is completely cleaning house. Maybe people will take notice and start to support this team.

Now it is looking like 4 yrs/34M, with a 5th year option which could bring it up to 43.

Deal is 5 years/$42 million. I can live with that, I guess.

This Chris Pronger stuff is pretty serious. Definitely concussion related stuff from that eye injury. Can't help but think of the injury that ended Ian Laperriere's career a few years back. Prongs is getting up there in age, so I really don't think it's premature to wonder if this is the end. Terrible.

Lucked out when nobody took Jiwan James in the rule 5 draft today. It was a weird situation. He is a pretty nice prospect, but has not advanced very far for his age/service time due to a position change a few years back (never played above A). So it was hard for the Phillies to justify using a 40-man spot on him, but I also expected somebody to take a chance in the rule 5 today. Lendy Castillo was taken by the Cubs, however. And in a very surprising move, the Phillies did not select anybody. Very rare. They usually feast on the rule 5 draft.

One less potential suitor for Jimmy Rollins...

Also overlooking the fact that 5 years is exactly 3 more than the amount of productive MLB seasons he has as a starter under his belt. With that said, the Buehrle contract is absolutely laughable. I think the Wilson one is pretty bad also, but way more understandable.

Yep. BTW, I don't think I have ever had as much confidence in an athlete coming through as I did while Giroux was skating in on Miller in OT last night. Only matched by my confidence in Roy Halladay getting a big strikeout, probably. G is incredible.
