  1. Yeah Charlie, sacrificing with 2 on and nobody out and the pitcher on deck makes so much god damned sense...
  2. And the sad thing is that he is the most coherent of the three TV guys. One thing the Mets have that I wish the Phillies have is good TV broadcasters....
  3. And this game is officially nuts, btw.
  4. And sure enough, on September 4th the Phillies wind up in extra innings, out of bench players and out of relievers. This should not happen.
  5. Lots of ins and outs, but here is the short of it. Joe West decided to use instant replay for something other than a questionable home run (fan interference on a double). And he wound up reversing a call, directly resulting in runs coming off the board. The Phillies are now playing the game under protest. I actually think the Phillies have a good chance of winning the protest, but I just don't think it is worth the hassle. The game is essentially meaningless, and should they win the protest, they will have to fly down to Florida at some point to re-play the game from the point in question. With no more days off in the schedule, it will be a scheduling nightmare for something that doesn't matter much. The bigger issue is that Joe West has yet again made the headlines about him, and not the game. Also, even though this was a non-reviewable play under the current rules, things like fan interference should absolutely be reviewable in the future. Wonder if this incident leads the push for more expanded replay.
  6. Normally I'd be more pissed since the Phillies got screwed, but this is actually one of the most intriguing baseball situations I've seen arise in a long time. This is going to have a very, very interesting aftermath. Joe West still sucks though.
  7. Joe West is a joke. Seriously, retire already.
  8. I will bump this quote the next time you bring up the typical anti-Flyers "goon" arguments with me. But really, I don't see the relevance in anything you just wrote. You just mentioned all of the dangerous elements of hockey. Cool. If anything, this seems like a decent argument against letting players maul each other to death with their own hands. I mean, the sport is so vicious, why add another vicious element, right? (Just to re-iterate, I enjoy hockey fighting). And Check my Stats makes a good point. The Matt Cooke's of the world are definitely the best argument in favor of keeping fighting around.
  9. I used to agree with this. And I still see the logic to some degree. I just find it less and less necessary every season, I think. There are cheap shots/hits in every sport, yet the NHL is the only league that actually tolerates fighting. Again, don't get it twisted, I enjoy watching this aspect of the game and I hope it sticks around, I just don't really see the point anymore. There have to be safer ways to "police" the game.
  10. With Reading and Lehigh Valley in the playoffs, the Phillies have yet to make any call-ups. Hate to say it, but I am rooting for early exits for both teams. We need the bodies right now. No more off days and two double headers left on the schedule (and the potential for more...more bad weather approaching). Not to mention, it would be wise to start getting guys regular rest anyway, since you know, the Phillies are a 99.9% lock to make the playoffs and all...
  11. Well, yes, that is the easy assumption to make. One thing that is for sure is that the NHL is going to be taking a very long look at this. I personally don't have a problem with fighting, although, my stance has softened a lot in the past few years...I used to be all for it, now I am realizing how unnecessary it is most of the time.
  12. Team performance should have very little, if anything, to do with it. But unfortunately you are right, and it will be the deciding factor most likely. Which is why Bautista (who IMO is the biggest slam dunk of any of the four races) will get screwed.
  13. Werth is a very good outfielder, even in center.
  14. Didn't say it was a bad thing. And yes, if the schedule didn't set up like this for them, I am guessing they would just shut him down. But obviously they are not going to turn away from four guaranteed sell outs.
  15. Oh look, how convenient....by bringing him back on Tuesday, he is lined up to make all four of his starts at home. Not like that was planned or anything
  16. Not only have three enforcers died, they all killed themselves. Lame. Fighting will not exist in the NHL 3 years from now, methinks.
  17. http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=18625959&topic_id=&c_id=mlb&tcid=vpp_copy_18625959&v=3 My god Mike Stanton is a freak. Opposite field, upper deck at Citi Field. Unreal. He now has a .902 OPS in 522 plate appearances as a 21 year old. Basically unheard of, unless your name is Albert Pujols...or Babe Ruth.
  18. Prediction: In the 6 games remaining vs. PHI, Diaz goes 20-for-30 with 10 home runs and 10 doubles.
  19. As of now, Bautista/Kemp and Verlander/Halladay.
  20. Big morning for the Giants. Miguel Tejada and Aaron Rowand DFAd. Eating a lot of money w/ Rowand.
  21. The John Bowker trade is interesting. If he can show anything at all in September, have to think Ross Gload is out. And assuming they go with ten (or even nine?) pitchers in the postseason, there should still be room for Dom Brown on the roster.
