Wayne Simmonds deal finally done. There is about $1.5 million of cap space remaining. Slightly more once Ian Laperriere is placed on LTIR. They could use one more forward, I guess, but barring a trade the roster appears to be set. Edited my lineup projections, btw.

Well, the Lightning have way more leverage in negotiations if there are no offer sheets on the table. It is easier to accomplish anything if there is no competition, obviously. But if the reports are true, and GM's were telling each other that they'd screw each other in the future if offer sheets are/aren't submitted on certain guys, then that is collusion and something should be done to fix it. For the record, I am happy the Flyers did not send Stamkos an offer sheet.

I know. And it does work I guess. It just seems a bit fishy that Stamkos did not receive one offer sheet. There were some reports that rival GMs told Paul Holmgren that if he offer-sheeted Stamkos and forced the Lightning into either losing him or overpaying to keep him, then the Flyers would get the same treatment for Claude Giroux and James van Riemsdyk down the line. I am sure other teams were warned of this too. Which obviously makes sense, but that is the definition of collusion. But I suppose there is no way to prevent this.

Also extra base hits and stolen bases. And not to get super nerdy on you, but Victorino has a pretty significant edge in WAR. And UZR too, going back to defense.

Why not? Based on performance, Ian Kennedy should be his only competition, really. Of the four hitters on the ballot, Shane is having the strongest offensive season (well, he and Morse are very close). Not to mention he is easily the best fielder of the group. But of course, in something like this, fan support is the only thing that matters. But he wins in that department too, so it seems like a slam dunk... Not even trying to be a homer here. It just seems pretty obvious to me.

Meh, if I were on the jury, I'd want to be left the hell alone right now too. Or like ECN said, wait until somebody offers big money before talking. But I'd certainly want the microphones and cameras out of my face until then.

The restricted free agency system is broken. An elite 21 year old center gets RFA status and has openly difficult negotiations with his current team, yet doesn't receive any offer sheets from other teams. Not one. You can't tell me that collusion isn't involved here.

Wait, what? Who said he doesn't want to be here and who said the future doesn't involve him? Agreed, but not to the point where I'd just hand away one of our better assets for next to nothing to make it happen. Disagreed. Well, you are potentially right, but I am not ready to go that far just yet. Turner is good, and I'd love to see how he reacts to a larger role, but I have also not seen enough to just hand him over the keys completely.
