I hope the Flyers screw with Boston and draft Murphy if he is still there at 8.

The NHL Draft is so much more fun than the NBA Draft. Too bad the four-lettered network would never let most Americans realize this! And, normally I would say to go for the best player available and not organizational need when you have the top pick, but they'd have a very hard time passing on Larsson I think.
-
Giroux is honestly better than Richards in every aspect of the game. The hit to our depth is the biggest factor here. It was nice to have great two way forwards centering practically every line last year. Now that is gone. I think there will be more pressure on Schenn than anybody. If he comes anywhere close to his potential (I don't really expect him to his rookie season), then I think we will be fine.

I think Mike Richards needs to realize that yesterday's series of events was triggered by the owner, not the general manager. Holmgren was practically crying at the press conference.
-
These are basically my thoughts. When you have the 16th pick in a "weak draft", your options will be limited. The Sixers needed a big, so they went out and got the biggest guy in the draft. Best guy available at their position of need. Totally predictable, sure. But they can't really be faulted for it, IMO. The only way they really could have made a splash yesterday would have been to trade Iguodala for a super high pick (like that Minnesota rumor that was briefly floating around).

I am really wondering if Roy Oswalt's career is over. This back stuff seems serious. And he's hinted at retirement in the past...

One of two things happened today. We either set up a sick foundation for the next ten years, or a great thing was [expletive]ed up. But I will be honest, I am very excited. And I give a lot of credit to Paul Holmgren. He had Ed Snider up his ass pressuring him to make radical change. Not only was he able to follow through with the change, but he got damn good return on it (from the looks of it). Also, I will love the Bryz contract for the first half of it and probably hate it for the second half. Whatever. Ed Snider got what he wants, and for now, I can live with the numbers. We'll see how that goes. Anyway, thanks for seven awesome seasons Carts and Richie. I hope Carter and Nash wind up on the same line in Columbus. I also CAN'T WAIT to see Brayden Schenn in orange and black. And finally, tonight was the absolute WORST night ever to be stuck at work. Omg.

I fully expected this all along, I just questioned you when you said it was "done" three days ago.

Yay. Really excited that we got Lavoy Allen in the 2nd round. Temple!

October 6th baby!! The Flyers early season schedule is kind of brutal. Opening in Boston, home opener vs Vancouver. Ouch! Also, I suppose the Flyers/Rangers Winter Classic is indeed on. On the schedule for January 2nd at 1PM.

Lakers & Sixers discuss Iguodala deal
Phightins replied to Dash's topic in Los Angeles Lakers Team Forum
What is the common denominator about every single one of these Iguodala rumors? None of them make any sense at all for the Sixers... Seriously, who comes up with these things? -
Bump :glasses:

Well, yeah. As I said, in a dream world they could sign Bryzgalov for just 3-4 years, and then hang onto Bob and let him get the job eventually. But since everyone knows how "desperate" the Flyers are for goaltending (thanks Ed Snider!), you know that Bryz and his agent will gouge them for every last penny (clearly, if this 7 year/$49 million rumored deal is true). If it's that many years, I don't think his rights will do much good no matter where he is playing. Also (correct me if I am wrong), even if he went back to the KHL, if he ever tried to rejoin the Flyers, I believe he'd still have to go through re-entry waivers, which as I was saying, he is no longer exempt from. Somebody would definitely grab him. And I do believe he has a decent amount of value, I am just not sure exactly how much. Young, and cheap for now (just a bit too expensive to be a 15-game-per-year goalie on a cap-strapped team, IMO). I actually think he'd be a perfect fit for a team like Florida, depending on how far away they think Markstrom is.
-
I just read an interesting trade scenario. The Flyers would trade Jeff Carter to Columbus for Jakub Voracek, John Moore, and the 8th pick in the draft. They would then trade the 8th pick and Kris Versteeg to Florida for the 3rd pick (Florida needs to pick up a bunch of salary to reach the cap floor). If this has any chance of happening, count me in.
-
There is a lot of speculation that he'd be traded if this Bryzgalov signing indeed happens. Well, Bryzgalov is probably good for 65-70 starts per season if he stays healthy. So that leaves very little playing time for the backup. Bob is 22 years old and needs to play to develop. And from my understanding, since he appeared in 60 games last year (including postseason), he is no longer waiver exempt if they wanted to send him to the AHL. Also he'd be one of the four or five highest paid backups in the league. So basically the only option would be to trade him. Especially since the Flyers lack draft picks/top prospects, it'd be a good chance to recoup some assets. I think it'd be cool to have a Thomas/Rask type situation with Bryzgalov/Bobrovsky, but if the Bryz deal is for 5 or more years (it probably will be), I don't see how it could work.
-
So, apparently there is a deal in place with Bryzgalov, in the neighborhood of $7 million per year. My worst fears. Don't get me wrong, I will be thrilled to have him on the roster, but that kind of cap hit can/probably will cripple them. Now, all I can hope for is a king's ransom for Jeff Carter/Sergei Bobrovsky/Kris Versteeg. Voracek/#8 pick/one more player wouldn't be bad for Carter. No idea what the market would be for the other two.

Ah, damn I was really off. I guess I failed macroeconomics for a reason. -

That's basically worth a nickel in America. Maybe two. -
Like all baseball nerds, I am pretty excited for this. Royce Clayton playing Miguel Tejada...haha.

Dude...it's the Padres. Calm down.

I am not upset about losing. I am upset that Charlie Manuel decided to waste a Cole Hamels start by getting Michael Martinez, Wilson Valdez, and Ben Francisco into the lineup. Only Charlie could be given the chance to put together a DH lineup and leave Placido Polanco, Dom Brown, and Ross Gload on the bench. I am also upset that both Seattle runs were direct results of weakly hit bloops to the outfield. This is why baseball is the most frustrating game ever.

Baseball really sucks sometimes.
