  3. Exactly. I think the Nets avoided more mistakes than they made. We could have gone after Boozer, an older player, or STAT, a player with health issues. We avoided those risks. We'll see whether trading Yi turns out to be a mistake, but for the time being, the Nets situation is far from a problem. We still have a new home. We still have a big-name owner. We still have a big-name coach. There's an incredible amount of talent just when you look at players within the first three years of their career. Along with that, health does not appear to be an issue. There aren't any sources that can confirm the Nets being out of the race for James. But even without him, this team has taken a big step forward and can continue building with other talent in free agency.
  4. Cano is pulled out of the Home Run Derby with a minor back injury.
  5. Rafael Soriano replaces Rivera, and Heath Bell replaces Yovani Gallardo. Youkilis is back in the lineup today.
  6. I respect Terry Francona, Jon Lester, Dustin Pedroia, and David Wright.
  7. Mo has been pitching hurt and is going to rest during the All-Star break rather than attend the festivities. Youk also left the Boston game, though I have no idea how serious the injury is.
  8. Our ten-game Summer League losing streak over the last couple of years is over. Terrence Williams took charge yesterday and today. He appears very comfortable at the point. Favors has had some trouble with fouls, but that has been the case with our players the last couple of years. He picked up his shooting today, and he and James both put up impressive numbers.

  10. When LeBron's primary concern is a championship, he may very well compromise if he sees his signing with Jersey bringing the trophy. And it's really not that bad of a compromise. Newark isn't in the middle of nowhere. It's fifteen minutes from the city, and I wouldn't know firsthand, but from what I've read and heard, Newark is an upgrade from Cleveland. The arena is also only a couple years old, a great place to play, and easy to get to.
  11. I'm split on whether the rule should stay. I like how every team is represented with at least one player when trying to get home field advantage for your league, but teams that don't have any all-stars at first are often out of the race in their divisions.
  12. The Nets now have Avery Johnson as their coach, a healthy Devin Harris, two solid draft picks including a #3, a new home in a better location, the second highest cap space in the league, and plenty of talent that has been overlooked. But no, let's just think that 12 wins affects next year in every way.
  13. Not a smart move by the Knicks to avoid talking about or to overlook the Nets in my opinion. James isn't given a reason to not come to terms with Jersey.
  14. Forbes SportsMoney You can view the presentation in the link above. Do the Knicks not know that the Nets are in this race for LeBron?

  20. Pretty cool how we were about to go into an off day with a tough loss twice during this past road trip, and both times we rallied in the ninth inning to tie the game and went ahead in the tenth to win it. The last game in Arizona was on the verge of being 2001 World Series Game 7 all over again. 2001, Mo strikes out the side in the eighth inning in Arizona. This time, he retires the batters 1-2-3 in the ninth to send the game into extras. 2001, Arizona rallies to overcome a 2-1 deficit in the ninth inning to win it all. This time, Arizona puts men on second and third with a one-run deficit and no one out. But two popouts and a strikeout followed. Exciting ending to the series. Because of Rivera, three players were ejected in the Yankees-Dodgers series. I find it funny how Rivera got the job done for Torre in close games for over ten years with New York, but the first two times he gets the job done against Torre, Torre is furious with the calls on Mariano's pitches.
