  1. ESPN Umpires are humans too. Cliché, but maybe he didn't set himself up for the best angle and truly thought he was out. It really is a shame that we could have seen the league's second perfect game in a week, and third of the season, from a kid that was called up from AAA with low expectations less than a month ago. But Joyce handled it extremely well afterward.
  2. http://i48.tinypic.com/2hzokuh.jpg I'm not a Tiger fan so I can't imagine what they're feeling right now. Imagine how long this could continue to bother Galaragga in the future. It would be easier to accept if the runner really were safe than to know that he had 27 up, 27 down.
  3. That was an incredible catch by Jackson on the 25th out. You don't even need replay to tell that Galaragga beat Donald to the bag. That is as rough as heart breaker can get, I suppose.
  4. If the score in the Indians-Tigers game doesn't change, it's the third 1-0 win in two days. Edit: scratch that. If Galaragga goes on to pitch the perfect game, it's the third in the last month! Unbelievable. Edit #2: scratch that. Galaragga only has 3 K's, so his pitch count is at only 75 after 8 innings.
  5. Other reports say the interview won't happen before Game 1. The Hornets have reportedly made an offer to Thibodeau and have given him until Thursday to accept.
  6. Never mind that. Matt Kemp scores the winning run in both 1-0 extra inning wins.
  7. Wow, second straight game in which the D-Backs and Dodgers are scoreless in extra innings. I wonder if this goes longer than the Mets-Cardinals game earlier this year.
  8. I think Chan Ho is just having trouble with mechanics. Yesterday, he pitched 1 2/3 innings extremely well with great movement on his pitches. It seemed like mental mistakes caught up to him, leading to the consecutive hits, before Girardi had a talk with him and he quickly got the final out. I'm still willing to be patient with Javi and him.
  9. The other bright spot for Phillies fans is that they're slumping at this point. It's better to slump in May than in September. They just need to make sure this doesn't turn into an extended skid.
  10. Wow, eight straight Yankees got on base in the seventh inning, and the ninth hit a sac fly. 20 grand slams for A-Rod! It's funny how the Twins chose to intentionally walk Teixeira, leading to Rodgriguez hitting a slam off them, and the Indians made the same decision and paid the same price today. 6-RBI day for Alex. The Yankees retired nineteen straight batters at one point.
  11. It's frustrating to watch when it's happening, but looking back, it's pretty funny seeing how many calls C.B. Bucknor is wrong about at first base. Off the top of my head, he messed up on at least one, possibly two, calls in the first game of the Yankees-Indians series. He got two wrong in the same Red Sox-Angels playoff game last season. I also remember him incorrectly calling Gary Sheffield out at first base and throwing him out a few years ago in a Yankees-Mets game.
  12. Tim Kurkjian also revealed that this is the seventh time a perfect game was thrown on a Saturday... Congrats to Halladay, though. Two perfect games in the same season is incredible enough, but to have them in the first two months of a season and in the same month is unbelievable.
  13. The incident between Joe West and the White Sox was ridiculous. I didn't see how either of Buehrle's pickoff attempts were balks. Even if they were, I don't see what Buehrle did to warrant being thrown out. It looked like West wanted to unnecessarily start something with Chicago.
  14. Derrick Favors or DeMarcus Cousins? If Blake Griffin were in the draft this year, where do you think he would be selected? For the Nets: Avery Johnson, Mark Jackson or Tom Thibodeau? Do you think there are better realistic candidates for the coaching spot outside of the three listed above? Do you think Prokhorov will have a positive, insignificant, or negative effect on the Nets? Brooklyn Nets or New York Nets? Stick with "Nets" or change the name? If the Nets were to sign a PF to play alongside Lopez, would you prefer Lee or Boozer? Is the NBA going uphill or downhill? Thoughts on the Barclays Center?
  15. When I say they didn't have the money, I'm referring to what Cashman had available in his budget. That played a huge role in what we did over the offseason. What depth did we have offensively prior to Winn and Thames? Ramiro Pena? We still wanted Damon because we would have shifted Gardner back to the bench and had Johnny, a weapon against lefty pitchers, in the lineup. The reason we signed Winn and Thames was for more than just the field. If the field setup were the problem, we wouldn't have signed two more LF's. As I said earlier, we needed to replace the bats of Hinske and Hairston, so we went for those guys. Thames is great against left-handed pitchers, just like Damon was. There's a connection.
  16. In both ways, the Yankees did not feel they were set. Hairston and Hinske left, and Gardner, at that point, still needed to show that he was ready to frequently start rather than his usual pinch-running role last year. Thames and Winn were brought in for more than fielding. There's a reason that the talks between the team and Boras went on for weeks before it seemed unlikely that Johnny would return. The reason that negotiations couldn't come to the finish line was money, not the FO's decision to be satisfied with what we had.
  17. Well if they felt they had enough depth, I don't think they would have signed Thames and Winn.
  18. Your best response with any relevance to this topic is a reference to something over five years ago and still hardly related.
  19. So then how do you explain not coming to an agreement with Damon? Oh, right, you don't watch baseball.
  20. There's a difference between being proud of your team for a hot start and creating a topic about a two-game series sweep in May like it's a crucial September series. Consider that the teams that are hot in the first forty games aren't necessarily the same teams that are at the top in October. The Yankees lineup isn't the same without Johnson, Granderson, and Swisher. It's also different when we have to constantly bring out Robertson and Logan (who, as a side note, deserve credit) with no Aceves. Of course, no one's going to pity us, and we're on our own with solving the problem, but think about that when you make a statement like that. I also find it funny how you say "lack the pitching" even though back in Tampa Bay (where, by the way, the Yankees took 2 out of 3), Sabathia took a no-hit bid into the eighth-inning and Burnett had a quality 7-inning outing. In those two games, your pitchers allowed a combined 17 runs. By your logic, that easily suggests something about what to expect in October. Also, by your logic, the Yankees would have been screwed last year because they lost their first eight games to the BoSox. April and May games can only tell you so much about what can happen four or five months later. Along the way, there are injuries, slumps, and collapses. Congratulations on the wins. They are significant, and they gave you a slightly greater level of comfort in the standings. But I think there's a limit as to how excited you should be getting over a two-game sweep in May. Some things stay consistent, and others don't. That applies to your team, my team, and all the other clubs.
  21. I like "Nets," whether it's Brooklyn Nets or New York Nets. He had an odd conversation with Mike Francesa over the possibility: @ChrisMannixSI
  22. He was doing this while waiting to hear whether he was approved as owner.
