Hinrich is a two-guard, starts there and plays the majority of his minutes for Chicago at that position.

Rajon Rondo

Jason Kidd

Chauncey Billups

Russell Westbrook

Deron Williams

Could re-arrange that order over and over again, really. I almost want to put Kidd above everyone because he can defend three positions on the floor well, but he does have defensive lapses that last an entire game.

Hinrich is a combo-guard. You can call him a 1 or a 2. He happens to play the 2 more this year because he's starting with Derrick Rose.

Haha, I know that. Same thing we talked about with David Lee. You have to judge players based on their primary positions, because otherwise, you really don't know how well they perform. Maybe Hinrich would tire quicker this season, if he had to play point all year, and his defense would show for it.

Hell, Dwyane Wade is a combo guard. I wouldn't list him as the best point guard in the NBA, though...but maybe I should, because he can play the point? Doesn't make sense to do that.

Kirk Hinrich played point against the Heat about a week ago with Rose sitting out due to injury, and he still did a terrific job guarding Dwyane Wade. Many Heat fans on realgm were complaining about Wade not showing up or having an off day, but it was easy for me to tell that it was Kirk's defense that was causing him problems. Wade didn't start playing well until the fourth... after Kirk got ejected with 2 techs.

I would also figure that playing the point on offense and guarding the opposing best player defensively would tire Hinrich, but after watching this game, that obviously was not the case.

Anyway, I do see your point about primary positioning. Even though my bias would say Kirk is more of a point guard, the fact is he's spent more minutes playing shooting guard this year. I could argue that it was due to the make up of his team, but the stats don't lie, and I'm forced to call him a 2 until his role changes.

BTW, even though Wade might not be ranked the best point guard in the league because he's primarily a shooting guard, he is certainly one of the best at playing point guard. ;)

I havent seen much of Russell Westbrook this season so I'm curious to hear why some of you guys think he belongs in the top 5 over all the guys I have listed.

I think he won defensive player of the year in college. Plus, he's got great strength for his size, kind of like Jason Kidd, and he's excellent at simply keeping his man in front of him.

Really, it's been one of the strongest factors in his game since being drafted.

BTW, RD and I didn't put Hinrich in our 5 PGs because his primary position this year has been SG.
