Dash
After the Houston Rockets selected Hakeem Olajuwon in the 1984 NBA Draft, the Portland Trailblazers called in and offered Houston the #2 overall pick and Clyde Drexler for Ralph Sampson. Houston declined (Sampson was a fantastic player at the time and led the Rockets to a finals appearance) but what if Houston did do the trade? Houston would have very likely selected the great Michael Jordan. So my question is, just how many championships could a team of Olajuwon-Jordan-Drexler have won? Do you think they could have coexisted in the first place? This is something I have been wondering about for quite some time.
Dr. Feelgood
I always get depressed thoughts and wonder how many rings Drex and MJ could of won together in Portland.
crabbylion
Contrarary to pop belief I think they would've co-existed. Drex and Olajuwon seemed mature and humble enough to play 2nd and 3rd option. Drex was maybe 20lbs away from a Pippen like frame so he could've played the 3 spot. Houston in the 1980's would've been outrageous! Especially with Warren Moon and company lighting up the NFL scoreboards. Dang, i'm getting depressed, too! Owner Real Deal Posted March 21, 2010 Owner Report Share Posted March 21, 2010 Very unlikely that they would've selected Jordan, actually. Houston was high on both McCray (who they picked up the previous year, third overall) and Lloyd, and that covered the two and three. The Rockets would've selected Perkins or Barkley, because of their interest in the PF slot. Sort of weird that they could've had Hakeem, Barkley and Drexler though...since that's the trio they had when all of them were about to exit their primes.
