bigdog17k
Yes it can be overturned. They'll need to send in an appeal to the league which I'm assuming they're going to do. Can we start on online petition if they don't? I'm sure everyone in America will sign it.

SRV
Why didn't the home plate umpire or some other ump overturn it? Were they all checking out chicks in the crowd at that moment or something?
trutrojan8
Why didn't the home plate umpire or some other ump overturn it? Were they all checking out chicks in the crowd at that moment or something? Why would the third base ump have authority to overcall a play that happened 150 feet away from him? Phightins
Yeah the only guy in position to make that call was Jim Joyce and unfortunately he [expletive]ed up.

SRV
Why would Selig be such an [expletive]? I am sure that if it was a veteran, well known pitcher, he would have overturned it.

Phightins
^^ Agreed over turning it would be very dumb IMO Yeah. And I am not a Bud Selig fan by any means, but if he were to overturn this he would have set a terrible double standard. As I mentioned in the other thread, there are plenty of examples of terrible calls in the past that actually decided games (and important ones at that). If Bud Selig were to overturn this, I don't think the '07 Padres, ''96 Orioles, '85 Cardinals, or '75 Red Sox would have been too pleased. Now, if there were rules in place that allowed for a play at first to be overturned based on video evidence after the fact, then it'd be a different story. But those rules are not in place, so there is no reason to make a new rule just for this one instance. Obviously sucks that he lost the perfect game, it is a [expletive]ty situation all around. And I think we will see expanded instant replay because of this. Edited June 4, 2010 by Phightins

bigdog17k
Isn't it a double standard to not overturn this, but possibly overturn one in the future with replay, etc?
fish7718
Isn't it a double standard to not overturn this, but possibly overturn one in the future with replay, etc? That's kinda dumb to say, that's like saying it is a double standard to not over rule a homerun even though we might add replay? You can't just change the rules because of a special occurrences, the situation are unfortunate but it would be even a worse double standard to over rule this and not others WITHOUT a rule change. The dude was out by 2 1/2 steps, and it would have been the 3rd perfect game this year. I think that kinda warrants an overrule...
Phightins
Isn't it a double standard to not overturn this, but possibly overturn one in the future with replay, etc? Not at all. There are currently no rules in place allowing for that, and there never have been. So the Gallaraga play should not have been overturned, just as none of the other bad calls in the past have been overturned. If rules are put in place in the future, that is a different story. Cobb
Good to see the Braves get a win. Not exactly sure what happened to Saito but it doesn't seem good considering he left with two strikes on a batter. Hopefully KK can come out strong tomorrow. We need to get him a win badly. 0-7 is a horrible record.

Phightins
Dave Trembley fired by Orioles. Pretty [expletive]ty, since that is just a bad team. Not the manager's fault at all but he had to be the scapegoat. Former Phillie Juan Samuel is the interim manager. Hopefully he gets a chance. bigdog17k
^ Yeah that's not gonna help much, they just need to keep developing talent... I hope Pirates don't to the same to John Russell, I like him... and the Pirates seem to have gotten a bit better this year.

fish7718
Watching LA-Atl right now, nothing feels like baseball quite like listening to Vin Scully call a game, I'm extremely jealous of you LA fans. I remember he used to the play by play for All Star Baseball 2000, with Chipper Jones on the cover, the greatest baseball game for the playstation.
