"Without question, however, our biggest pipeline-related achievement during the first quarter was obtaining vacant possession in Atlantic Yards in Brooklyn, closing our new partnership with Mikhail Prokhorov for the ownership of the Barclays Center arena and the Nets team and continuing construction work on the arena," Ratner said.

"Vacant possession" referred not to the entire Atlantic Yards site, or even the entire first phase, but the arena block.

"All projected debt and equity needed to complete the arena construction has been fully funded, and we expect to open in late spring/early summer of 2012," he said.

Based on our computerized progress chart which compares the cash flow amount to the projected construction progress, the project is currently slightly ahead of schedule.

I don't see how they plan to finish that in 8 months but construction is an amazing thing, maybe they can.

Or have they already conceded it won't be ready before 11-12 season?

Things have been quiet lately at the Barclays Center construction site, but now the arena's roof is starting to take shape. The arena's distinctive arched roof will be supported by a pair of 350-foot-long trusses spanning the long direction of the arena. A new image, released Tuesday, shows the first first of those arch roof beams being installed at the "billion dollar arena", as the Nets are now calling it.

The placement of pre-cast concrete slabs on already installed metal decking is also projected for this week.

The arena design prevents it from being used as a regular NHL venue (capacity of only 14,000-15,000 expected in a hockey layout). Not necessarily a bad thing (unless you're an Islanders fan, I suppose) with 149 dates out of the planned 200-225 already booked. One NetsDaily user brought up an interesting point, comparing the Pru and the Barclays Center. With a non-hockey friendly design in Brooklyn, the seats can be closer in on the action, creating a better atmosphere for the basketball games. Link

Latest set of photos (taken from all around the construction site).

Short video of Deron visiting the construction site.

For all those still wondering whether the Nets will ever move to Brooklyn -- stop wondering. It’s a done deal. After one more season in purgatory -- sorry, Newark -- the Nets will open the 2012-2013 season in what will certainly be the league’s finest arena.

The shell of the place is up. You can see where the lower-level seats will be, where the first row of suites will be. You can see that the stands will be intimately close to the court, which should lead to a raucous, uproarious, college-like atmosphere.
