Teletopez
More work by Tracy Collins: Steel facade started going up a couple of weeks ago. The feature is pretty neat. Light from inside will seep through the steel panels and shine outside at night.http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6074/6087067772_b30895c716_o.jpg The pictures below were taken a block away from the construction site, where a sample of the weathered steel has been on display.http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6189/6077423839_23fae0dcda_o.jpg http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6185/6077423267_b981888ee5_o.jpg Edited September 10, 2011 by Brooklyn Bound
Teletopez
These pictures are from a conference by Gregg Pasquarelli, who is one of the founders of SHoP. You can see the theater-style lighting in the bowl (similar to MSG and Staples Center). You can also see in the third picture what I mentioned in the above post about light from inside shining through the weathered steel. http://i1234.photobucket.com/albums/ff407/TheBronxBrooklyn/pasquarelli1.png http://i1234.photobucket.com/albums/ff407/TheBronxBrooklyn/pasquarelli2.png http://i1234.photobucket.com/albums/ff407/TheBronxBrooklyn/pasquarelli3.png
Teletopez
Three apartment towers around the Barclays Center are in the plans by Forest City Ratner. According to NetsDaily, groundbreaking for one is expected before the end of the year. Not sure if it's been mentioned on here, but over the past couple of months, talks have been heating up about a potential NY Islanders to Barclays Center move. Nassau Coliseum has been considered obsolete for years now, and after a vote to build a new home for the Isles failed, discussions got serious. Brett Yormark and Bruce Ratner met with NHL officials a couple of weeks ago. Although the capacity would be significantly less for hockey, the NHL said they don't have a set minimum capacity. With the current seating arrangement, the sightlines for hockey are not great, but adjustments may be made.

Ratner unveiled the design Thursday morning for the world’s tallest prefabricated steel structure, a 32-story residential building at the corner of Flatbush Avenue and Dean Street in the $4.9 billion Atlantic Yards project. The 350-unit building uses rectangular shapes, colors and glass to break up the mass of the structure, which would sit snugly up against Barclays Center, the new arena of the Nets basketball team that is scheduled to open in September 2012. Mr. Ratner, chief executive of Forest City Ratner, said that prefabrication or modular construction could save time and cut construction costs by as much as 25 percent. Fourteen other residential buildings would be built at Atlantic Yards using the same technology. Forest City Ratner is also negotiating a labor agreement with construction unions, which have supported Atlantic Yards, but could end up with fewer jobs and lower wages for some workers if the project goes forward. Mr. Ratner said Thursday that he hoped to begin construction early next year. But the start date has been a moving target for more than a year now. The developer ultimately may instead decide to build the first tower conventionally. But his company has now invested two years in studying modular construction, a technology that has existed for decades, but is largely untested at this height. The world’s tallest modular building is a 25-story dormitory in Wolverhampton, England, that was built in 2010 in fewer than 12 months.NY Times The three towers around the Barclays Center are 32, 22, and 52 stories. I still think they'll keep the $15 tickets. It's a billion dollar arena so good or bad the tickets everywhere else are going to be high as tits. Teletopez
What a score! The first pro team to break-in Brooklyn’s new arena won’t be the Nets, it’ll be the Islanders. Barclays Center and Islanders officials confirmed Tuesday that the Long Island hockey team is set play the first professional game at the arena – and the first NHL game played in Brooklyn – on Oct. 2 when they take on the Devils in a preseason matchup. The NBA’s Nets, which will call Barclays Center their home next season, aren’t expected to begin playing games there until later that month. The announcement comes as Islanders and arena officials continue behind-the-scenes talks about the team moving to the Barclays Center after its lease at Nassau Coliseum expires in 2015.NY Post
