Shooting percentages last 5 minutes

• Considering how great Dwyane Wade is, here's a surprising stat: Wade is shooting 34.5 percent in the final five minutes of close games this season (when the Heat is leading or trailing by seven points or fewer), compared with 46 percent for LeBron James, 39.8 for Kevin Durant and 38.3 for Kobe Bryant. Wade shot 44 percent in those late-game situations last season. One factor: Wade is shooting more jumpers in those situations than in 2008-09. But Wade (and James and Bryant) get to the line much more late in close games than at other times.

Kobe shooting only 38%, that's really surprising. Closing games out, that's his thing and he's really good at it. I was thinking somewhere from 45-50% for him.

It's not surprising for any of them, really. Teams double down on clutch players late in the game. Superstars are typically those "clutch players" for their teams. LeBron gets to the rim more than any non-big man in the NBA. Kobe is doubled more than any player in the league right now. Wade and Durant take a lot of jumpers, especially Kevin. Can't be surprised.

True, but it just seems like Kobe makes way more than 38% of his shots. He seems so much more comfortable in the last few minutes of a game.

I think Kobe's numbers over the last minute of a game would be really high. It's funny too. Kobe's generally had poor numbers over the last 30 seconds of games until this season, but he's always had good "clutch stats" defined as within 5 points and under 5 minutes. This season looks to be the opposite.

The only knock I can say about Wade this season is his decision making when it comes to taking stupid shots at times. There's times where he'll just pull up for a stupid 3 in a close game when in reality, he sucks at 3's.
