Sportsguy9695 Posted March 31, 2010 Report Share Posted March 31, 2010 Louisville and coach Rick Pitino have agreed in principle to a four-year contract extension that will keep Pitino with the Cardinals through 2017.Financial terms have yet to be worked out, but athletic director Tom Jurich says he wants Pitino’s salary to be competitive with the top 10 coaching salaries in the country. Pitino’s previous contract ran through the 2012-13 season and paid him approximately $2.5 million a year.The agreement moves up payment of a $3.6 million loyalty bonus due on July 1. Pitino will now receive the payment on April 1.Pitino recently completed his ninth season with the Cardinals, who finished 20-13 and were eliminated in the opening round of the NCAA tournament.
