David Lee, Rudy Gay, and Amar'e Stoudemire

From Early March

He told the Post's Fred Kerber: "The Nets are an interesting team. They're a clear example of a team whose talent level doesn't reflect the record."

He then talked about the Nets having a high first-round pick, an established center in Brook Lopez and a star guard in Devin Harris.

"They could have a big turnaround year next year if they get a good free agent and the No. 1 draft pick," Lee said.

Lee wouldn't elaborate last night, content with a win after Saturday's embarrassing 20-point loss to the Nets.

Grizzlies small forward Rudy Gay wasn’t just playing the political game when he told reporters last month he would consider the Nets in free agency this summer.

Gay, who will be a restricted free agent July 1, also has told friends New Jersey is a place he wouldn’t mind going.

If the Nets strike out on targets such as LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Joe Johnson, they’re expected to pursue Gay. But the Grizzlies can match any offer and it sounds as if that’s their plan.

“I think this franchise is definitely going to turn things around here soon. New ownership is coming in. They’re looking to move to Brooklyn. All that is a factor,” Stoudemire said. “All those high draft picks, all that can help the situation. With that being said, it’s just a matter of waiting to see how it plays out.

“You always want to weigh your pros and cons. Right now, the pros are definitely there. They have a great chance of turning the franchise around sooner or later. It’s great to see. I’m pretty sure it’s going to happen for them sooner or later. I think this offseason is going to be a big offseason for me and I have to figure out what decision to make here soon.”

That’s typical Amar’e: He doesn’t just speak, he makes declarations in big and bold sentences – usually where the editors dare not go, and where teammates roll their eyes from a safe distance. There’s no maybe about Stoudemire, even if some of what he says often comes across as a cry for attention.

Boozer hasn't commented much, but he nearly got traded to Jersey in the past, and he has a home here.
