AboveLegit
We always hear analysts and former players talking about playoff teams ending the regular season strong to gain as much momentum as they possibly can in time for the playoffs. Many believe it helps give them that competitive edge, and that determination to win from the opening tip. How much does momentum factor into playoff success? If a lower seeded playoff team finished the regular season by winning 10 straight games and is facing a higher seeded team, what is the chances they end up winning? Interesting fact: The Golden State Warriors went 9-1 in their last ten games to finish off the regular season before playing in that historic series against the first placed Dallas Mavericks. Owner Real Deal Posted April 2, 2010 Owner Report Share Posted April 2, 2010 I wouldn't say that much, because momentum can be built on favorable scheduling. Once you play a top four seeded team in the first round, you will likely have to play them 6-7 times to beat them, and that's all without the usual bad teams in between, and the 2-3 days rest and home-cooking on long streaks. The Warriors matched up well with the Mavericks from the start. They went 3-0 against the Mavericks in the regular season, including 29 and 17-point blowouts. Flash
Not much. Maybe more so in a 4-5 matchup where the teams are usually more evenly matched.
JWaLL
It's mostly a confidence booster for the underdog teams. I wouldn't say it contributes a whole lot to the outcome of the series.
