Lakers sign Bryant to extension

Kobe Bryant has signed a three-year contract extension, the Los Angeles Lakers announced Friday.

The deal will keep Bryant a Laker through the 2013-14 season.

"We are extremely pleased that we were able to reach an agreement and come to terms on the extension at this time," said Kupchak. "Kobe has been a cornerstone of the Lakers for well over a decade, helping to lead us to four NBA championships and in the process developing into one of the greatest players in basketball history."

Bryant has spent his entire 14-year career in a Lakers uniform. The extension coincides with the length of the deals signed by teammates Pau Gasol and Ron Artest.

Smart move. No need to sign him to another max deal when he's getting up there in age already. The 3 year is perfect. I don't think he plays more than 4 more years anyways.

Way too much, 18 mil a year max.

Lakers sign Kobe to a three-year extension

Lakers signed Kobe Bryant to a three-year contract extension.

The rumors that Kobe would test the market were never believable, and this just confirms it. Even in his 14th NBA season and at age 31, he has shown few signs of slowing down and has everything he could ever want in L.A. The Lakers now have Bryant and Pau Gasol locked up for three more years, ensuring that their window of greatness stays open. Bryant will obviously be making the NBA maximum through the the 2013/14 season, expected to be about $90 million for the three years. Apr. 2 - 4:11 pm et

Are you kidding me?

I think 25/year is a fair deal for a player of Kobe's calibure.

30/year is quite large, but hey, if Buss is willing to pay then so be it.

That's called overpaid and you know it. I'm surprised he didn't do these last 3 years for free.

Rashard Lewis is making 18 million. Kobe deserves more. 25 million/year would be reasonable, he'll still be an elite player in 3 years. 30 million is overpaying, but again, it's not my money. If Buss wants to shell out 30 million then good for him. The sticking point for me are the years. 3 more years is the perfect length.

Who cares what Rashard Lewis is making, he has nothing to do with the Lakers organization. Kobe already has 2 years left on his contract, once the season begins in 2011, he'll be 33 and beginning to earn 30 million a year for 3 years, at that kind of age, you dont give a player that money regardless of how good he is, Kobe wont be the same player a few years from now.

Kobe is 31 right now. The contract runs until 2013-2014.

He'll be 34 by the time the contract expires...

He'll still be one of the top players in the league, regardless of age, barring any major injury, which you cannot predict anyways.

Is it overpaying? Sure, but it's not a big deal. It would be a big deal if he signed the deal for 5 years, but a 3 year extension is perfect.

Rashard Lewis is making 18 million, going onto 23 million as his contract goes on, and Kobe definitely deserves more than that.

Again, it's not my money. If Buss is willing to shell out the money, good for him .

Yes he is 31 right now, but hes not making 30 million a year right now is he? Hes in prime currently too.

When the contract expires, he'll be 36 brah.

It is overpaying, but anyway, you do have Odom, Artest, Kobe and Pau for 4-5 years under contract.

Rashard Lewis still has nothing to do with the Lakers, dont know why you bring up a player who has nothing to do with anything yet again.
